I posted a thread on the Fitness Ireland forum enquiring about the high cost of supplements in Irelad and I was attacked with some sarcastic and scathing remarks. I explained diplomatically that I wasn't pointing the finger at Fitness Ireland in particular and was just curious as to why supplements (online and on the high-street) are about 50% more expensive here (and the UK) than elsewhere in the world. Well, they deleted my thread! I posted another thread asking why my thread was removed and that was deleted too!!!

Just thought I'd post my little story here to be spiteful - and to inform the rest of you that FI management aren't interested in explaining the high cost of their supplements. Obviously they're not the only ones ripping people off - Workout World on the Quays are even more expensive - but if they don't have the decency to explain their high prices in public then, well, it's time to sling mud.

So because there are no cheaper prices, that means they can shut down his thread and effectively ignore him????? That is very rude behaviour. They could at least for the pr of their company make something up!!!!

Wow, that's amazing that they treated you that way. I'd be pretty mad myself!

Well I'm not going to spend too much time link hunting. Suffice to say that the specific product I mentioned was sachets which are what I used to use.

    Myoplex, 20 servings
    Fitness Ireland: €52.50
    Bodybuilding.com: <€30

Now there were several arguments made before my thread was closed. The first was that shipping was extremely expensive. Sorry, but goods bought in bulk don't appreciate 50%-60% when shipped from the US. Another argument was the one that I swallowed for a while - that the government were taxing the life out of FI for their stock. Then I immediately stopped believing this assertion once they removed my post. The only conclusion is that they have something to hide - namely, that they're ripping people off.

You do know I sell most products a good 25% to 40% cheaper than FI?

As for tax, there is no VAT on whey protein, mrps, etc: to see this go to www.revenue.ie and in search type in: vat rate milk extract (which obviously includes, milk based protein products...)

If FI can get away with selling because they have google ads, so be it, but I'm doing what I can at the moment to change this attitude....

Btw, bulk-nutrition.com can go as low as $46 for a 10lbs bag of optimum. This is well below what it can be bought for wholesale in this country so there is a definite disparity between prices here and in the US, but there is no reason to be charging over E20/lb as is done with many maximuscle products.... (E55 for 2lbs/908g promax in star fitness bray)

cheapest whey protein i can get is ON in the city centre ; E100 for 10 pounds, and i think the creatine is E50 for 4 pounds (roughly 3 weeks worth of it) (also ON)

I do the 10lbs bag for E75 and the 4lbs creatine for E40...

Joker: 5kg for E55? Is that the nutrisport tub? If so, fairplay to you! Nutrisport whey is only concentrate and mixes like cement.... If it was a decent brand like ON or Designer I can't fathom that price.

I know, but it's a pain in the arse having to arrange to meet! :D The one thing I do like about FI is the fact that they deliver to my office the next day. Didn't you say you were going to get a website and logistics sorted out? When you do, let us know the URL and we'll order from you instead :D

I'm new to all this - this is what I bought but the site says it's 5lbs, not 5kg:

    http://www.optimumnutrition.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=ON&Product_Code=02315&Category_Code=PP

I got it in a place in Capel St, Nutrition Store or something, for 55.

Anyone any advice on this being a good/bad product? and what if any would be a better Whey Protein?

I'd also recommend easygainer if anyone's looking for good value supps. I used to order from FI myself until I realised there was way cheaper places to go.

I don't like the guy who runs that place. He has two price lists - one for people in the know and one to rip you off. I sell the same 5lbs and 10lbs at E40 and E75 respectively. He sells them at E55 and 95 I think but if you know him (some people might know what and who I'm talking about) it's E40 and 80....

That said, as far as shops go in Dublin it ain't too bad.

It's the same with Workout World. They do that too... or at least they used to. Which kind of strengthens my argument that companies like these are ripping people off. The "one price for my gym mates and one for the suckers" attitude pisses me right off.
