Don't think a poll has had this approach before.

Please only vote on your own personal experience, not what your friend/brother/etc says...

You left out Esat. And IBB. And Imagine. And why multiple options, how many people have more than one providers?

    Stupid poll. No offense like.

Only had it a day though :)

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. :
Also, not everyone has had only one BB provider, hence the "STUPID" multiple options. The phrase 'Think before you type' springs to mind. :p

I didn't include IBB as I figured that the answers were obvious, also there is a max of 10 pool options.

Interesting that the only unhappy voter so far is an Eircom customer.

Indeed. For example, you could think about your use of the word "have" in the poll before you fire off an excuse that doesn't work.

Hmm, or another example, you could think about just sticking to the point instead of dreaming up waste of time, pedantic, time wasting thread contradicitions to fill your pityful little life! :D

But the polls are limited to 10 options :(

    Thanks anyway praetorian. :)

Come to think of it, a full-on independent survey would be a nice idea.

    Quote From Kens Link:
This thread on Boards - sorry, idiots make me cranky - made me think that an independent consumer satisfaction survey of telephony and internet providers might be a good idea, using the same software IrelandOffline used for their last two surveys. (I host their website, so I might even use the same installation with a different database. Schtum, schtum!)
    End Quote From Kens Link

made me think that an independent consumer satisfaction survey of telephony and internet providers might be a good idea - What a brilliant idea, where did he get that from?????

This is EXACTLY what i was trying to do, but using the limited resource of just 10 Poll options.
Jeez, what did you expect me to do ??????

So far I have been accused of putting up a stupid poll, to which i defended by stating that my resource was limited. Now, all of a sudden, it is the birth of a 'good idea', But I am an 'idiot' and a 'moron'
    I give up :(

Thanks to those who helped by voting, and giving genuine thoughts/comments to this thread.

Results so far seem to suggest that if you are able to get NTL, go for it.
Eircom seems to be the biggest gamble of the providers listed.

    Keep the votes coming. :)

I have Eircom 2Mb service and I'm happy with the service, and the speed at getting connected. I am not so happy about the prices, which are expensive taking line rental into the equation, but otherwise, it's stable and good.

I has UTV 180 hrs dial up on ISDN. Service has gone down hill lately, frequent disconnections and crass CS staff. ****e really. :(

BT and sort of happy.......I'm surprised it was left out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,787 ✭✭✭prospect

    RE: the BT thing.

Sorry about leaving it out guys, but as I said before, there wasn't enough poll options.

Part of the idea was to see if any of the new 'big players' are providing a superior service, i.e. Metro and Smart. But lookin at the percentages (although over a small group -61 votes so far) we get the following:

    NTL: 91% are happy
    Smart: 75% are happy
    Metro: 71% are happy
    UTV: 66% are happy
    Eircom: 60% are happy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,787 ✭✭✭prospect

    Mods,
Can you guys perhaps create a sticky poll that can take ALL major BB providers?

It would be nice to have one that people can vote, and update if they change BB provider. e.g.
    Eircom:
    Speed: Happy/Not happy
    Uptime: Happy/Not happy
    Value: Happy/Not happy

    etc. etc.

After a month or two, we should have a fairly comprehensive list of top performing providers, which would probably reduce the number of 'Which BB Provider is best?' threads!

I'm happy with my Utv 1mb connection.I never have any problems connecting and always get stable speeds when i do.Pings to game servers could be better but they're low enough to enable me to play online and actually enjoy it.As far as customer service goes, i can't say as i've never had any reason to contact them.
It should be said however that this is only the case in the last year or so.When it was a 512k connection, the speeds dropped to around 10kbps, and remained like this for close to 6 weeks.Utv eventually got their fingers out and done something about it when boards.ie users complained en masse to get COMREG on the case.
    As i said, since then i've had no probs.Fingers crossed ;) .

I think Adam is creating a survey using dedicate survey software and multiple questions. That would be a better idea.

BT is very good, just need to check that your bills come in on time. Well done Prospect on setting up this poll, even if some people want to criticise your initiative ;)

At last I got my final bill from Eircom, now finally on UTV wholesale rental. :)

I got a cheque for €45.45 from Eircom a couple of weeks ago as refund on the unused portion of my line rental when I switched to BT. That was even more enjoyable than getting my final bill :D

Jesus wept! You need to frame that...bet there were tears in Eircon HQ when they had to sign and hand that over...

Based on the current poll results I have calculated the percentage of happy customers as follows:

    %Happy
    Smart 66.7%
    Metro 60.0%
    NTL 89.2%
    Eircom 57.5%
    UTV 63.2%

Nearly 90% of NTL customers happy is very impressive. All the ADSL providers come in at arount 60% happy customers, with Eircom lowest at just 57.5% happy.

Why isn't IBB in the list? My guess is that their customers would be less happy.

But it's a nice poll, well done!

Eircom 1024/128 and happy , yeah , I said happy , stop sniggering over there .

:( mods , they are all laughing at me ..

You see I am a gamer of the fps variety , and I find the eircom service to be stable and always on . Previously , I had UTV , and while cheaper , it broke my conkers ping wise .

And might I be so bold as to suggest Digiweb be added too?

I have their satellite service, and am happy with it.
There are limitations (dire lag, cost, 'fair access'), but I knew about them before I started.
There's a fibre-optic cable as thick as your leg outside my house which I'm tempted to attack with a bit of wire, a penknife and a roll of insulating tape!

    .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,787 ✭✭✭prospect

@ Rovi, sure, the more options the better, now that Micro can add extra fields.

I think it really highlights the fact that NTL seem to be out performing the other providers by a long shot.

If it becomes a sticky, I could do regular updates on percentages etc.

I'd love to hear from those 6 people that said that they are not happy with Smart's Broadband service.

I've got it and am more than happy with it since I ditched the Aolynx router provided by Smart
