Sounds good. Hurley flashback should be decent.

Ah crap.. thought i made the poll public!

And already got 3 votes giving the episode a 10 and 1 giving it a 1.... once again, do i need to expain to ye all that time travel is not possible?!

steveland?.. any chance you could edit the poll to make it public. Don't think it's possible after it's been published but if worst comes to worse, maybe i could delete the thread and start a new one.

10/10 now or 10/10 after I watch the episode hmmmmm. Either way it's the best episode YET!

    No can do buddy...

Don't think it really matters all that much anyway... we know there's gonna be fools who'll just vote ten/one for the sake of it...

    That's true!

Will remember next time. My first feck-up of a discussion thread this season anyways!

I'm really looking forward to this one, but I get the feeling that this time Hurley's backstory simply can't live up to the brilliance of his previous one. After all, "Numbers" introduced the whole idea of the numbers and how they are integral to the storyline. This one is likely to only give some background detail, not some over-arching plot device.

we will probably find out why he was in hospital

The whole Jin scenario aswell will be quite intriguing. I could have killed the producers last week when they decided to throw that little bit of info on at the end.

    agreed.

all this talk on here of it being an interview *about* the show i dont buy. the lighting and setup dont really make me feel it.

I'm convinced we'll find out he suffered from Bullemia. It'd fit with his physique, his sensitivity about his weight (and quasi-acceptance of it, perhaps the result of his therapy?) and finally his nickname: Hurley which he was reluctant to explain the meaning of in series 1.

Since there's a Jin / Sun backstory next week... i wouldn't be suprised if we don't see that scene til then!

sun is one of my favourites. the focus on the 'heroes' towards the end of last series and so far this has been kind of boring me a little. ill be glad to see some more focus on the others. i think the show has kindof left what it was meant to be: the sociology of a group with nothing in common surviving in a hostile environment. this episode will be back to that i think. everybody gets to go into the hatch and fight over food or whatever. and pulling hurley out of the funny-fat-guy rut hes been in.

I paused the Jin "interview" and he has the cut above his left eye and the bruised left cheek that he had 203.....

hehehe, ok ive just seen a coupla clips from this episode, its gonna rock! :D

    plot
Hurley starts hallucinating whiile in the hatch, and sees Jin who starts speaking english, and Hurley starts talking korean back to him, and he's holding a milk carton with a 'missing' notice with Walt's picture on it :D

I was just looking at the final part again, and you can see anna lucia hitting sawyer (with michael behing sawyer) and lined up on the other side is big black guy, korean dude and herself on the other. Could be jin is planning a double cross of his own?

From that clip at the end of episode 3, I honestly think it's Daniel speaking during an interview. He's giving in the interview during the shoot for one of these early episodes. That's hardly the hatch in the background, and what would that big yellow thing off to the left hand side be even if was the hatch?

And how the fsck would they explain Jin being able to speak English this entire time?!

cant wait for this episode. saw the three clips at www.thetailsection.com ... very interesting.

    also saw this at http://thelostnumbers.blogspot.com/

Assign each letter of the alphabet a number so that 1 is A, 2 is B, etc. up to 26 for Z. Then wrap back to the beginning so that 27 is A again, 28 is B, 29 is C, and so on.

4: The 4th letter in the alphabet is D
8: The 8th letter in the alphabet is H
    15: If you add 4 + 8 + 15, you get 27 which wraps back to A.
    16: 4 + 8 + 15 = 27, and 4 + 8 + 15 + 16 = 43. 27 + 43 = 70 which gives you a R.
    23: 16 + 23 = 39, which is M.
    42: 4 + 8 + 15 + 16 + 23 = 66, and 23 + 42 = 65. 65 + 66 = 131 which is an A.

Sounds like somebody tried pretty hard to find some sort of connection with Dharma and the numbers. That "discovery" follows no strict pattern whatsoever.

how can u not see that connection.. that is pure solid evidence... it would have to be one MIGHTY coincidence...

    Have to agree with qz!

It's just random calculation of the numbers trying to find a recognisable symbol / message in them. Pointless!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 518 ✭✭✭danbhala

it does seem a bit out of the way to get something more out of the numbers. but it is pretty interesting

actually i seem like a bit of a boob but i didn't read it properly to see if they were just adding up a random selection of the numbers.. ya your right fsck that haha. i thought it was actually properly done.. o well

I really wonder if there are some of the people on boards who are psychic, because with ~ 10 minutes to go before episode 4 even airs in the US, 4 people have already voted on the poll.

Hmmm, lets spin my little plot here. The disaster/reason for the code to be typed every 108 minutes was nuclear related. The others are mutants, from said disaster. Quaritene was on the inside of the hatch because of nuclear radiation seepage. The others are acuattly surviors of a previous happening too bad they steal teddy bears. NO JIN TALKING PISSED ME OFF. That second hatch Is gay compared to Jacks Hatch. WHERE IS LOST ZILLA?

Hated this episode... Didnt drive the story forward in one bit for me.

    i voted 4.

Its gone into typical stargate mode where a previous season ender storyline is moved forward slightly in the first few season openers. and then halts for a while. I dont expect anything great in the next few episodes.

Yeah it seems to be slowing down. I thought the episode was alright though.

I enjoyed that episode but it was no where near as good as "Numbers". I wanted to see
the chicken joint being hit by a meteor. Also, I found that fact that the shop owner remembered the numbers Hurley had picked to be quite odd

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,989 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

Well when you win the lottery, the shop and time when the ticket was bought is known, so he could have remember that.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Yeah, I know that but think about how many people would have bought a lotto ticket around the same time. It's possible I suppose but I just doubt most of the shop keepers in this country would remember faces.

    i liked it!

the flashbacks didnt really go anywhere though, let alone have anything to do with the episode, still good for what little they were though....

    yay Rose is back!
    yay Libby, who is HOT!

and especially yay for Bernard, im kinda annoyed now that i knew it was him all along, great scene at the end!
    and
Claire FINALLY getting her Peanut Butter :D

my only gripe was with claire and shannon's dealing with the message bottle, wouldnt shannon put 2 and 2 together after her Walt vision ? its kinda unfair that they dumped the responsibility on Sun alone

well to be honest once the name of shop and time of ticket purchase is determined then surely all they have to do in the shop is check the CCTV footage of that exact time.

    Thats my plausable explaination

Was about to say that myself :)

All in all I really enjoyed this episode... Good guest star, Hurley was great as always...

Kate and Jack... hmmm, wonder what'll happen there....

Ana Lucia is wrecking my head... don't like her or her character at all...

Liked Sayid's little line "The last time I saw concrete poured over everything like this was Chernobyl"... Interesting :)

    I liked this episode.

Finally got to see the other entrance to station 3.
23 of the tail section survived. Did the others get some of them?
Their station looks crap, the part we've seen.

Nice scene when hugo hands out all the food and everyone likes him.
Presumably the story will develop from the two groups and they'll
eventually meet up and form one tribe a là survivor.

really liked that one. im glad to see the pace of exposition slowing down. this episode really had everything i posted about before i watched. character driven. no faith, science stuff. no heroic goings on.

    v. nice

Brilliant episode. Way better than the last 2 where time just seemed to stop for the whole episode. Hurley's flashbacks were really interesting. Jinn talking english was really dissapointing to find out that it was just a dream.

Where the guy thats meant to be in the other hatch?
Wheres did the other survivors go?

    Any 1 any ideas?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

    Yep, really enjoyed this episode!

Not a huge amount of plot development / revelations but i enjoyed Hurley's backstory and the dilemma he was facing.

So.. i'm guessing he gave out ALL the food in the final act to stop rivalry / squabbling between the others. Was never really revealed whether he did or not but kinda guess that was implied.

Good to see Rose back. Trying to remember when we last saw her.. last i remember was when Charlie confided in her about how upset he was that he just let Ethan take Claire back in 'Whatever The Case May Be' (i think).

I thought Sun was right in her decision to bury the messages - give some hope to the survivors still waiting for the foursome on the raft to return with help..

Good to see Bernard finally... and here was me expecting his first line to be ".. .. Big Kahuna Burger!!..." :D

Anyways.. i'm giving the episode a 8 as even though we didn't get much in the way of plot development, we got a decent backstory and some decent revelations regarding the survivors in the tail of the plane (hating Michelle Rodriguez more and more.. especially her "if i say walk, you walk" etc. speech to Sawyer. Loved Sawyer's retort of "bitch!" before the opening credits), some Evangeline Lilly shower action (always good!), some chemistry between Kate and Jack now that Sawyer is off the island (or so they think!).

All in all... a very very good episode!

PS - oh.. and how could i forgot?! Loved Hurley's dream at the beginning! "Have a cluckity-cluck-cluck day, Hugo!" :D

In my opinion, it looks like they may have gotten the sickness Desmond was talking about. Bernard looked very ill especially!

Yes but i still it was unfair of Claire and Shannon to just dump that responsibility on her like that, especially seeing as Sun in particular is the only one who has a real connection with the rafties.

i did like the Claire/Charlie and Shannon/Vincent scenes at the end, and the ending with Rose pocketing that chocolate bar at the end, while thinking of Bernard has to be one of the best entire scenes in the whole series for me :D
    Continuity is love!

    Whoops sorry about that!

I thoroughly enjoyed that episode, it may not have been the most plot advancing episode ever but still, enjoyed it muchly. Sawyers dialogue was, as always, brilliant. Another high point was the end, seeing mostly all of the survivors together and happy, haven't seen that too much. Although I have an ominous feeling that all that lovey-dovey stuff will receive a swift kick up the arse and next weeks episode will be somewhat different.
