id actually like to see a piece from the director of the college. maybe get some insight into the future of the college. id like to see a piece on the head of the departments and see what they think of the college past present and future.

we have more students than ever this year so im sure at least one them has an interesting story to tell. maybe get in touch with past students and have them tell us what they are up to now.

theres no shortage of content out there.

I've heard only bad stuff about the SU. A lot of people i know complained to them about various things and not one thing was done to help them. I wish there was something we could do about that but its too late now isn't it?

why don't you say something enough letters to the ed will mean it needs to change its format

Ok! Come on Xavier, we have a revolution to start! But seriously, how would ya ever get people to do anything like that? People love to complain, just not do anything about it.

Well you write it in the blurb... I say we bring Anto back, I don't even know who this "president" is. Is he a first year? Must be...

Anyway we could write our own articles, but remember that alot of the crap in the blurb is ads from the various "supporting" pubs...

We could have a joke page, carlow history page, current affairs (By that you mean global news, Right?) We could also have an events page (Which doesn't deal with pubs...)

I mean if we really wanted to change the blurb we could, we could get together and write a few articles. Google is your friend. It wouldn't take up too much of your time... Unreal, I am in the same boat, I have shag all done with my projects and the like, but I think that we could find time for it...

Pretty much it, and somehow I stayed another 2 years, or so:rolleyes: Compsoc was good, spent my days trying to bypass every rule in the book, either accidently, or otherwise. Ah, them was the days. Oh, and Carlow smelled _REAL BAD_ back then.

That'd be the smelly sugar factory. It's no longer in operation, yet Carlow still smells!

do i detect a note of sarcasm?! it would be a prety big event in the history of this college if the official mag was overturned by a 3rd party mag. seen as the last moment of note was "the battle of the upper canteen".

I was to Carlow IT for what seems like forever and the strongest memories i have are "Starcraft" ah the joys of compsoc. I was their for the very first compsoc and still know the guy who started it. The only games we had were Quake 1 and Tiberian sun which we played in the kellishen centre. Ahhhh my first first person shooter and strategy game and my long steep slide to game addiction.

As for the whole drink in the blurb thing it's not just students that have that problem. Most common conversation at work where did you get plastered on the weekend. Common office mail on a monday morning is requests for paracetamol. It's not a drunken student problem/issue it's a irish tradition. Some just embrace it more than others. I'm sure their is some other employed ex students that can back me up on this.

I went to Carlow RTC in the early 90's. An absoloute sh*thole. My flat was a cheap £20 a week damp infested shed with no heating and a coin meter for electricity in Monacurragh.
Our night out was to the 7 oaks - Dive
Sorry if I offend anyone but I hated the place.
My lecturers were a useless shower. They were as useful as a chocolate teapot.
Not very nice people at all and really didn't seem to care.
Maybe they hated the place too.
After I graduated I ended up studying at Duke University in Durham N.C.
Completly wonderful vibrant acedemic experience. Poles apart from Carlow.
Local people and lecturers were wonderful at Duke.
I seen lecturers at Duke actually take the time to help guys that were struggling with their course. YES HELP THEM.
The Carlow way was here's your result - you failed - tough sh*t - oh you need help with the course - tough sh*t - you're on your own.
Student services (Duke student Union) were fantastic too.
Sorry Carlow IT but If I had the option open to me I would have no hesitation ordering a squadron of B-52 Bombers to begin saturation bombing on the town and the IT. Especially the IT !!!

I find some lecturars here very helpful, all you have to do is ask!
I liked giong here, class mates were great from day one, everyone help each other and all that.
I think it s a great college, the night life has improved a little since the seven oaks but considering your post count is 4 and this is probably just a spamy mc spam, we ll just ignore anything you have to say :)

Sorry to disagree, but in my opinion it's down to the student to pass the course, not the lecturers job to carry the student over the finish line.

I guess in all fairness Ireland was still pretty backward, even in the early 90's, so it wasnt just that Carlow was a 'bad spot' it was just begining to develop at that stage and progress with many other counties and has come on in leaps and bounds since then. Its a very different county to what it was 10 years ago and I'd well believe that the college wasnt so good back then.

Oh and any chance of calling off the B-52 strike? ;)

Man, I only finished in Carlow last June and I agree, for the most part, the lecturers aren't great in Carlow, there's a few great ones (notably Padraig Loughlin; nice guy too) and a few terrible ones (refuse to say, not really fair of me to do so). It's the same everywhere man, surely you don't expect the lecturer to put on a 2nd level high school teacher costume and hold your hand, make sure you do your coursework etc. or do you?.

College is an adult education environment, it's not school!, it's all about doing the work yourself, researching your own project, doing your own assignments, that's why a certificate/degree is held in higher esteem than a high school qualification, it's a certification of your ability to work and learn on your own!

After I graduated from Carlow I did 'Piss Off' to another college as you

    eloquently put it.

I wrote it in my original post. Maybe you should go to Specsavers.

I attended Duke University in Durham North Carolina after I went to Carlow.

Had a wonderful time at Duke.

I learned that Americans don't take any sh!t or accept sub-standard

    education, lecturing and facilities.

Carlow was a sub-standard college when I was there.

The majority of the lecturers were well bellow average and I'm being

charitable in saying that as its the season of good will.

I feel that most of students at Carlow were not valued by their lecturers.

It's your right to disagree - its called having an opinion.

But by defending the college you are saying that you are willing

to accept a bellow par second rate education when you deserve more.

You are saying that you are willing to sell youself short academically.

Although as I think back maybe the Duke Lecturers were more respectful

to their students as we were dropping $47000 a term in Student Fees.

Yes thats not a typo - Forty Seven Thousand Dollars US a term.

The £700 a year fee for Carlow when I was there dwarfs that quite a bit.

And you should know about dwarfs - The Hobbits and you running around

middle Earth with your strides around your ankles, pan-pipes in hand looking

for the Lord Of The Mexican Cock Rings.

    Mrjetlag,

With all due respect, and I know what your saying, but that was Carlow IT of the past, I think I can safely say them days are gone, at least on my course I have no problem what so ever with my lecturers they are great guys and gals, friendly and helpful, its the students who are the problem as far as I can see, with my course anyway.

Dont judge the IT of today from your bad experiences of the IT of the past.

    Happy holidays,

    CroppyBoy1798
