I don't even have to watch the video to know what this is about; it's why I stopped going to KFC a lo-o-o-ng time ago... haha. By the way, Subway rocks!!! :D

    :)

Why can't they just gives us the special herbs and spices coating without the cicken inside? That's the only thing that tastes good about the stuff anyway.

All the same, I'd love a twister meal about now.

If dog or cat tasted delicious and they had to go through that in order for you to eat them would you? I very much doubt it, this is the sickest thing iv ever seen  .

That's been posted before I think. Can't say I was all too surprised when I firsst saw it. It's pretty much what you expect. Although I recall PETA or whoever it is giving a few horribly biased pieces at times but I'm not sure it it was actually them....

Never been to KFC myself. Have we even got one in the Republic?

That video lost all credibilty for me when I saw PETA was involved. This wouldnt stop me going to KFC (havent been in a long while now that I think about it). In fact, when PETA is against stuff I usually want to go out and get it.

all processed food is made horribly.....but it tastes good
you dont want to know how anything is made otherwise you wouldnt eat it
    examples:
    sausages
    black/white/red pudding
    findus pancakes
all the sliced meat the subways serves you

    basically everything that isnt organic

Do you think they made up that video? Ok, possibly that is not the KFC plant but but i very much doubt KFC would allow this to be posted if it wasnt at there factorys would they?

that part where the workers were caught throwing the chickens against walls was pretty shocking... Though, I'll probably forget about it soon enough and go have some chicken nuggets..

No I dont think that they made it up, I do think that video was disgusting and that the treatment of the chickens was atrocious blah blah blah.

It wont make me boycott KFC, partly to spite PETA in my own little way and partly because I dont think that that video represents the majority of chicken farms. While yes disgusting, I think it could be the minority.

Maybe I'm wrong, but even if I was it still wouldnt affect me.

EDIT: I doubt KFC gave their consent for this video, if it was their place then they would fight to have it taken down, if it wasnt then they would fight to have their name removed from it.

Does it matter? Im sure it was done illegally, KFC is not gonna let these folks just walk in and start shooting such horrific footage.

lol no, its not to spite an organisation against animal cruelty, its to spite PETA. If it was any other organisations then it would hold more water to me but because of PETA and their methods it doesnt.

I dont no to much about the organisation myself, only that they have used some shady ways of exposing certain activities. Perhaps they will just go to any lengths to expose animal cruelty, im not sure. Ill have to do a little googling and get some info :).
Either way, this video is horrific and i will be boycotting KFC, they join the list with Mac Donalds/Burger King/Super Macs............. actaully the list is long :p .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,798 ✭✭✭voxpop

who actually thought theycould boycoutt mcdonalds and/or burger king but KFC was ok - all global food companies are the same - lowest cost = highest profits - its naivety to think one global takeaway is better than the other

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,300 ✭✭✭airetam_storm

They'd just love this in the vegetatian forum  Most animals you eat have suffered in one form or another, battery chickens/cows, animals fed steroids, killed in painful ways. This just happens to be one of the worse places but there are many like it.

May i ask why some have a vendetta against PETA?

I now realise this :o . The fact that the actuall chicken pieces are not processed (ie: Stuck in a big chopper and mixed with anything thats lying around) kinda made me think they where better.
I think im over any large american fast food chain.

Ah yes, fast food chains. Now comes the story I love to tell...

I don't eat at places like McDonalds or Burger King anymore (I've never been to KFC) because the last time I did I threw-up, in a weird way.
It was about 7 years ago (when I was 9). I had had a Big Mac and chips and a strawberry milkshake. I had the drink first and then ate the foods. About 30 mins. after finishing I felt quite queasy and soon a dash to the bathroom was needed. Quickly put by head over the bath and vomited a pool of brown gunk. And again. And again. Then came the weird/cool part: I vomited again but this time it was a mad, neon pink colour (from the milkshake). And once more for luck.
The food hadn't mixed in my stomach and I was left with a bath full of perfectly distinguished bright pink and brown pools of vomit. Nice.

So ever since then I haven't eaten properly there. I've stolen chips from friends who've dragged me there and I've had about 5 milkshakes (they taste so good). That's about it.

Those places really disgust me now. Not only their meathod of food production but I'm also just a bit repulsed by the food itself. Plus I also feel like the air is about 50% grease. :(

yeah its funny when ppl are completly disgusted by some multinational and then make up a nice chicken, ham and turkey sandwitch with mayo.....where do they think the processed slices of chicken, ham and turkey come from; and where do hellmens get their eggs for their mayonnaise.

im sure all the righteous ppl commenting on this thread have read fast food nation and are properly disguested by mc Ds but probably most of these ppl eat plenty of processed foods, buy food in tescos, rent videos from chartbusters, buy petrol from esso,etc.........basically everything is bad!!! just enjoy it !! :) or join a hippy commune and hug some trees...lol

    Hmm maybe a batter baby...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,300 ✭✭✭airetam_storm

Well if people have no problem eating veal i dont see why they would have a problem eating human baby. I assume it would be a very tender meat. Actually people usually get banned for saying that but as a vegetarian i would distinguish between the two as i would between chicken and turkey.

Would you make the same comparison to a fully grown cow and an adult? ie would you equte murdering a person and killing a cow as one in the same that should be punishable equally?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,300 ✭✭✭airetam_storm

Well no but thats only because the way society has shaped the moral boundries of murdering humans. If humans were breed for the purpose of eating, would you eat them(discounting the bitter taste human meat has)?

TBH I'd probably apply the same logc as above re: cats. If we had been doing it for generations and it was an acceptable part of human culture (and most importantly tasted good) then yes I would. Having said that, if a law was passed tomorow allowing the breeding for food of humans and the eating of said humans then, no, I wouldnt start eatiing people. My children probably would though beause they would be brought up in the culture above.

Fair enough. I wonder would there be a large uptake on human meat consumption in general though if it was lagalised. If it be come 'popular' then i'd say most people would readily eat it. Atm, people just have a mental block against eating living thinking humans whereas living thinking animals dont create such a problem.

Sorry, im just pimping vegetarianism again :)
that is such a ridiculous assumption, i agree that veal upbringing is very cruel but how can you compare a cow to a baby, these crazy comparisions are what make aminal activists look soo loopy
    Difference of opinion

    Mmmmmm....chicken!

Zinger tower meal....mmmmmmmm......yummie chicken with some of that lovely gravy. I know where im going for the dinner today.

    Back to topic...

I would say that KFC probably treat their chickens better than other fast food outlets because they are under the spotlight, It is cruel but its not fair to just highlight KFC.

All in all they are bred for food and it wont stop me eating KFC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

A regards eating humans, the chances of you picking up some nasty disease is far higher, even after cooking because anything that is living in the human you're eating is designed to infect humans. Look a CJD, that was first documented in cannibal tribes. It's a little like inbreeding leading to a build up of genetic defects.

Eating animals has always been cruel. I'm not against eating meat. I love meat. However there are less cruel ways of killing chickens and other animals. Modern farming is bad for the animals being farmed and the environment around it. There are far more biofriendly farming resources that haven't been tapped yet. Read E.O. Wilson's "The Diversity of Life" for a fascinating look at alternative sources of meat. I'll try anything once (bar human for the reasons above).

I think the main line here that I abide by is that if you wouldn't kill and prepare the animal yourself, don't eat it.
