    Drapper,

saw Polar Heart Rate Monitors (HRM) recently in the “Great Outdoor” Shop off Grafton street in Dublin. I use an old model from them since nearly 10years and it still does it job well, never any issues.

Polar is on the market since a 1977 and has vast experience. Other brands seem to have appeared over the last few years, which are cheaper, not sure about the quality. It’s a pity, that Polar don’t have a service centre in Ireland, because for the older models you have to post them away to get the battery exchanged, so they are still waterproof afterwards.

Occasionally I think even Aldi and Lidl have HRM to incredible low prices, quality and service are …. questionable or does anybody have any experience?

See also http://www.heartratemonitor.com/ for lot’s of links and information.

Another idea, I wonder if e.g. Great Outdoors would give a discount if several people would team up and order 5…6 HRM from them.

Personally I have a strong dislike of Polar.

Their older models, as Martinl suggested are extremetly good, I have a Polar M32 and will frequently use it. The problem arises with the way in which their business has been directed in the Irish and European Market.

Polar recently changed thier enite range to what is now called the F series. These new watches are completely devoid of the functionality, robustness, durability and quality that made Polar the Industry leaders.

I have had over 10 complaints this year in regards to Poalr watches and no longer have confidence in their product. Furthermore, Polar uk has seperated form the company in which the did business, CHP, and have gone out on thier own as Polar Uk.

Polar Uk was ment to go live on the 1st of June. It hasn't. It has taken me over 3 months to get thier new number and postal address, and I am one of their premier stockists in Ireland! This shoddy handling of thier business spills over to their servicing depatemnt which has reduced it hours and now may take up to 3 months for a watch to be serviced and repaired.

On top of this they recently lost a watch I had sent in for repair.

I do not recommend any Polar product produced in the last 1-2 years.

I use a Timex and find it to be fantastic! You can do a search here inboards and you'll find some reviews about their product.

Avoid Nike, and Mio like the plague.

If you want anymore info on what's good and bad, or you training pm and I'll send you my guide. Alternatively you can now see it on www.borufitness.com/article3.htm (I think...alhtough be warned, the website isn't fully finished yet. Still take a look and let me know :D )
