The two tests for More4 and More4 +1 (8340 and 3310 on 10.729 V SR 22.000 FEC 5/6) are both currently showing "This programme is not available" on an Irish card.

This is not good news, as on a UK FTV card 8340 is showing a More4 preview loop and 3310 is showing Channel 4 colour bars and tone.

This may indicate that they will be FTV in the UK but unavailable in the republic (like Channel 4 itself, but unlike E4 which is available in Ireland because it's a subscription channel). Hopefully it's a temporary encryption issue. Keep an eye on the tests.

    Looks very promising.

    Just in addition to this....

Remember E4 is widely available on Irish cable and on Sky here. Channel 4's policy on what is show in Ireland is certainly a hotch-potch, so it is by no means cut and dried that More4 will be viewable down here.

So, if this were to occur, it could mean that if we get it, it might not occur at launch. Who knows! :D

I was under the impression from the beginning that it would be Free To Air on satellite!

    NOT FTV ...

Channel 4 said themselves: unencrypted on all platforms!

Hopefully it will be FTA and on the Irish EPG (for Sky + recording), but as it stands the tests are encrypted but viewable on an FTV card.

Keep your fingers crossed and your eyes on the skies!

I can access the More4 promo by pressing red whilst watching Channel 4. As C4 is free-to-view the More4 promo is also FTV. It is the same setup as the Big Brother live feed. E4 is only available to subscribers so the BB feed was also only available to subscribers.
The C4 website has rephrased More4 availability from free (which may mean free-to-view) to free-to-air. I believe the real question we should be asking is 'will More4 appear on the Irish EPG?'

More4 is now coming in FTA, colour bars imprinted with CH4 London and full epg data, although none of the programmes are being shown.

    3310 is encrypted, carrying More4 Now/Next data; 8340 is encrypted, carrying More4 Now/Next data

Just checked Right Now on my Comag.

In addition, neither are coming through on my FTV card, they're showing the LivingTV upgrade screen./

I was a bit premature, I just whipped out the viewing card, and it has 01 Insert your viewing card message, I'd say they are just testing, as it was 08 earlier, and will probabally be FTA. I was surpised by now/next for channels not yet broadcasting.

re-stored them on my Irish card, and they're showing now rather than 08 anyway; but not free to air.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,817 ✭✭✭Charles Slane

Very strange. So now (in a sudden reversal of fortune) they're not available on a UK FTV card, but are available on an Irish subscription.

Will More4 be regionalised? If so, it could explain why they're messing about with encryption in different areas?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,679 ✭✭✭Chong

It does look good alright , from what they are advertising on the channel.

    Just to update:

I've just checked, and both are available to me on my Scottish sub. So, unless it's only available to sub cards now.... we'll not know for sure for a while.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,679 ✭✭✭Chong

I can see it on my card, but I suppose you are talking Fta so sorry if you are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,231 ✭✭✭✭Sparky

yea its showing a life+1 info banner on 8340 on my FTV card while its viewable on my irish sub, im watching the promo now and i must say im looking forward to the sopranos from series 1 :D

Folks just to clear any misunderstanding, these are the ways one can pick up more4

    DSAT
    Sky
    Sky – Channel 165

    Cable
    ntl
    ntl – Channel 166

    Telewest
    Telewest – Channel 142

    Freeview
    Freeview

Therefore it is NOT FTA (free-to-air) and probably wont be until channel4 contract on the sky platform is up, then they will look at ITV/BBC Freesat and see how successful it is before joining

just to clarify that typing 165 now will show nothing as it hasnt launched onto the EPG yet. will it be on ntl and Chorus in Ireland, who knows

I have the definitive statement here......
    http://www.channel4.com/more4/
Available free-to-air on Freeview, Sky Digital and digital cable, More4 will join E4 and FilmFour as one of the highest profile channels in millions of digital TV homes.

Meaning? It says Free To Air doesn't it??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

could that mean FTA on Freeview and also available on Sky and digital cable meaning it wont be FTA on the latter

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

My understanding of grammar and punctuation within that sentence quoted indicates that it will be FTA on all platforms.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 828 ✭✭✭Round Cable

But it can't be free to air on cable, although it does make it sound like all platforms.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

Very true about cable, yes, but its being platform neutral. Cable is a closed system, so obviously there is no such thing as FTA there, but it is going to be available on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,817 ✭✭✭Charles Slane

The encryption it's using in testing suggests that not only will it not be Free To Air on satellite, it won't even be Free To View. The broadcasts at the moment need a subscription to view.

Strangely enough this may be better for the majority of satellite viewers in Ireland, as most are Sky subscribers. If it turns out to be FTA they may not put it on the Irish EPG (unless Sky pay for it), which would be a pain for Sky+ users. If it turns out to be FTV, it wouldn't be viewable with an Irish subscription and you'd need to have a UK FTV card. Channel 4's other subscription channel (E4) is available to Irish subscribers, so I reckon a subscription More4 would make it onto the Irish EPG.

If Channel 4 chooses to make E4 and More4 FTA in the future, we'd be more likely to continue to get them on the Irish EPG if they're already there as subscription channels.

Of course the ideal situation would be for them to be FTA and be on the Irish EPG .....

Only eight days to find out for sure.

Yes, everyone wth a Sky subscription, basically.

Still encrypted. Although it's now widescreen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,042 ✭✭✭kaizersoze

Still encrypted. Although it's now widescreen.
All I'm getting is the EPG info at the bottom and the phone number to subscribe. Thats with an ex UK sub card. Not looking good for FTA.
Any time announced for it's launch today?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71,189 ✭✭✭✭L1011

8PM, but it'll hit the EPG at 10:30-ish

The More4 Preview Loop is available non-encrypted as at 10.00. This is with a Irish Sub Card. Channels seem to only be available through addchannels/extrachannels feature.
More4 is now identified as such in the add channels feature. More4+1 is still shown numerically only.
I guess only time will tell if the Republic is to be permitted to watch the actualk programming.

    Regards,

    Daniel

Is It on the Irish EPG?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 441 ✭✭colin300

More4 has been added to the Sky EPG ahead of it's much awaited launch tonight.

The free-to-air digital channel will offer viewers at least one major original new drama or documentary a month, a host of exclusive commissions especially for the Channel, brand new daily live programmes and a second chance to see the very best of Channel 4 drama and factual.

Thats from media247 so they dont get things wrong so just hang tight and wait for tonight all i want is the documentaries they should be good. especially after all the ones they showed on the 50 greatest documentaries last night on Channel 4. I didn't watch the one after it called the Boy Whose Skin Fell off but it looked like it was funny he seemed to be very upbeat from the clips they showed considering what happened to him.

One documentary to look out for is the Corporation that is one good documentary.

Someone on DS said that C4's press office are insisting that the subscription flags will be dropped at midday.

We'll see. Or not, if you've only got FTV/FTA most likely...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71,189 ✭✭✭✭L1011

And the More4 site has just been updated to say that it's subscription on Sky. Which is probably what C4 meant when they said it'd "change at 12"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,042 ✭✭✭kaizersoze

    From More4 website:
More4 is in the basic channel package through subscription on Sky, ntl and Telewest. If you have a digital box that receives Freeview, you can watch More4 for free without subscription.
    Thats it then. No FTA.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

Or FTV. That's a kick in the nuts, tbh.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk
