Seems a bit ambitious to me. Maybe twenty years ago but now?
I'll be nowhere near the place that's for sure.

I don't think so. I saw him once back in 1984 when the only hit he had was "Runaway" and that's exactly what I felt when I saw him. (see review: www.concert-reviews.net)

Having said that, one can't deny that he got better over the years but since the mid 90s he is just mediocre.

Well Jon "Have a nice day" and try the Olympia instead.

They play here every time they release an album.

Thought they would take a break with this one, but no. Another Dublin show.

    Does anyone really care anymore?

Will they fill it? I wouldn't have thought so, but I have been surprised in the past. Suppose we dont really know. To be fair if someone I know wanted to go, I would go to see them. They have some very good hits, the new album, although I dont have it sounds upbeat and may help things. Tickets onsale before Christmas, to make a good present, lots of ads on the radio to get it attention.

Where to they generally play when they come to Dublin does anyone know? Do they sell out usually?

They didn't fill Lansdowne the last time they played there....2/3 years ago?

I can't see them filling this by any stretch of the imagination unless the new album is a major success. They put on a good show but it's virtually the same every single time they play

nah they are gone i think i used to likeem and went to a couple of gigs sbut i think they are just a bit past itstyle wise...they haven't done feck all in this decade really so it'll be only die harders that'll show up...they are better than a lotof bands around so it would be nice to see them doin well...not that they need the money or anything

They will probably put the tickets on sale to see what rate they are going at. If slow they will add support that will attract another crowd altogether

Oh I like your thinking! Hopefully the will add another good band or two to sweeten the deal.

I dunno; been surprised by the various different people who have said they are going...

didnt he support KISS in `84?

I for one cant wait, I think that he should play here actually because he's a great performer. announcing it so early gives people time and consideration to prepare, at least he didnt wait until xmas and have everyone pressed like a certain other band did last year. 61.50 is steep but you can save for that if you wanted, and it'd have no chance of selling out. Besides, where else would he play with the Point out of commission? Landsdowne Road is a dump and the Ambassador is too small and Bon Jovi are a stadium band!

He did indeed. www.concert-reviews.net, read the review there. Back then he wasn't any good

    why all the 'he'

are bon jovi not a band?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,264 ✭✭✭RicardoSmith

Bon Jovi are a band I always thought of a lite-rock, but after being dragged to a couple of shows I'll admit they are decent live. Bit heavier than on the albums. They get great interaction with the crowd. Better than U2 in the RDS in my opinion.

They've playing live shows for 20 yrs or so. So they are decent musicians and they know how to put on a great rock and roll show. They have some made some classic tracks over the years. That said I don't think their last few albums are as good as their first few. Bounce is a good album though. Haven't heard the latest one. Its had no advertising or airplay as far as I can see. I only knew it was out because I saw it in the shops. They have a hardcore fan base and a fair few new fans. But I can't see them filling croker either. Rock music is just not as popular anymore. That said I have nieces who are big fans. So they'll be there too. Bit of mixed audience at Bon Jovi shows. Theres a younger crowd, 16-20 and then theres an older crowd 28+.

Read somewhere the BJ want franz ferdinand to play, don't know if they've even been officially approched yet but if someone like them played then maybe it could be sold.

I was a huge bon jovi fan in my early teens, their show in the rds for their crush album remains the best gig i have ever been to. Plus crush is probably their best album imo.

Personally i don't think they'll fill croke park, not straight away, there'll be tickets on sale right up until the gig, it may sell out in the weeks before hand.

Other than that, it should be a great gig!

I'll definitely be going to the concert. I'm 16 and can't get enough of 80's cheese metal and feel good rock. And, oh god, I hope Franz Ferdinand aren't going to be there otherwise I'll be arriving late.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

Have already secured my tickets at 9am no €76.50 tix left, they must all gone in the fan club pre release sale. Have scalped out some good seats near stage on lower level of the Hogan Stand. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭LundiMardi

i'm not to croke as i'm going to see then a few weeks after in wembley stadium..

If you're sitting at the side of the stage expect the sound to be pretty ****e, for a place the size of croker you're better off getting standing tickets and standing in the middle

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,264 ✭✭✭RicardoSmith

Bah humbug. I was going get tickets this morning but delayed because a mate said he get back to me if he wanted a ticket. Then I forgot due to being busy at work. Just checked now and standing is all gone. Lower tiers all all gone too. All thats left is the canal end or right at the end of the stands in the gods. At almost 80ea I don't think its worth it now as the sound will be dire and you'll see nothing. If I blag a free one through contacts, I won't care where I am, but I'm not paying 80 euro for a crap seat. Was initally going to buy 6 and the price was 460 ish. Thats unreal.

That is the "Golden Circle" in croke park?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 361 ✭✭Redegg

apparently its sold out... yes you heard me.. Bon Jovi sells out corke park. well standing is i hear,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,200 ✭✭✭kensutz

Standing is sold out since Friday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

MCD like to hold back tickets to fuel attention.

They probably want more of those seats filled.

Plus, they get more money that way.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

Looks like it will sell out this time.

Is Robbie Williams still doing a Croke Park gig next year or was that just rumours?

I don't understand it. They must have given loads of tickets to corporates and held loads back because they didn't suddenly become more popularly overnight.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭LundiMardi

yeah it's a little confusing all right, plus the new single isn't exactly ground breaking, i don't think they would have developed a brand new fan base.

Nothing confirmed, but last I heard it was looking good. But there was never anything official about this.

Robbie to be announced very soon.....Stones are confirmed too but not announcing any European dates until November

I have the album, but I haven't heard any of it it, or the single (which ones the single) getting airplay. Maybe we've had in influx of polish Bon Jovi fans lately.

Ahh sh1te is it sold out. I was gonna go (been to about 5 of their gigs). More of a Ritchie Sambora fan, I think he is class. I'm hoping they are holding back tickets.

Yes and deffo not worth €71.50 and €5.95 booking fee.

I'd say they will fill Croker. They played the RDS a few years back and the was amazing. They are hugely underrated. Their live shows are way cool.

The only reason im not going is cos i refuse to pay the extorionate prices for concert tickets. Regardless of who is playing. Bon Jovi rule.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,264 ✭✭✭RicardoSmith

I've seen them in the RDS a few times, and Landsowne the last time. (the other half's a big fan) They do a great live show, easily better then the U2 shows I've seen. Probably I'd rate Aerosmiths live show better. But Jovi have never filled any of the venues I've seen them play EVER. Crokers a lot bigger. So theres something odd going on here. But €80 to be miles away? Not a chance.

I've heard rumours of another date, the 19th. Could happen that now the current date is full.

Got an email update, I thought from this thread, but I've deleted it now so I can't check. I don't think I'm subbed to any other Jovi threads. Weird. Anyway I got the 19th from another source.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 420 ✭✭moshpit77

Thats a load of crap, it is certainly not full. I just tried Ticketmaster for 6 seated tickets and they're still available

Also, Croke Park is only available for 3 gigs next summer. Bon Jovi have one booked, Robbie Williams has one booked, and the third is being fought out at the moment between Robbie Williams and Michael Flatley's dance extravaganza. There's absolutely no hope of a second Bon Jovi gig

Yes in the arse end of nowhere or the canal end. Good luck to whoever buys those tickets. I only said it was a rumour. Maybe theres something else on that night. World championship knitting for grumpy old ladies or something.
