    Hey,
Was on the apple.com/trailers site and saw a trailer for a movie called A Scanner Darkly. If you like sci-fi and Philip K. Dick novels I would check it out.

If you thought Sin City was "comic booky", have a look at this.

looks kinda cool alright. personally i'm looking forward to serenity, flightplan and a history of violence.

I havent seen any of Firefly so I really dont know what to expect with Serenity.V for Vendetta will be another "must see".

It's Richard Linklater's new film. Same team that did Waking Life. Everything was shot on digital video and then animated over.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,942 ✭✭✭missingtime

That sounds somewhat familiar.I think I read about it on aint-it-cool-news.
Nice to see Winona Ryder back aswell...

Just reading the review at http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/scanner_darkly/
    sounds good!

Its funny, i just watched the tailers for v for vendetta, A Scanner Darkly and Aeon Flux and they all seem to have the same themes: a facist government running a soceity.
Is this a conincidence or is someone in hollywood making a point do you think?

or it could be because the boards are becoming more and more like that everyday....

I saw a poster for 'Oliver Twist' today.Interesting enought imo.

I think Serenity looks like the biggest load of teenage **** ever, but I guess I might go see it to really give an opinion.

Looking forward to seeing a History of Violence, hopefully very soon. Also looking forward intensely to the Vietnam Horror Movie R-Point

If I remember correctly you gave quite a negative view of Land Of The Dead before having seen, then praised it when you finally saw it. Book, not judging, something to do with a cover?

Anywho, I'm really looking forward to both Serenity and History Of Violence, but I've heard bad things about R-Point, supposedly it's just a re-treading of Deathwatch, which wasn't even a good film to begin with.

Saw a trailer for that vampire/monster film Death Watch I think. Definitely on my hit list.

Serenity is brilliant, I loved it.
If you're going to discount it based on... well... a trailer, at least give a better reason than "It's teenage ****" (which doesn't even make sense).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,767 ✭✭✭Hugh Hefner

Yes, Serenity is excellent. I don't like the trailer for it though. It doesn't do it justice. Plus it gives away loads of jokes! I was so glad that I decided not to watch the trailer before I went.

    Surely you mean Nightwatch?

I am looking forward to one called Born To Fight

It's a Thai movie, heard about it a short while back but just recently saw a trailer as an extra on the Ong Bak dvd. It's about a Thai village being terrorised and a group of athletes getting together and fighting back. Looks like it could be good, brainless fun.

Theres another movie something thunder - sound of thunder i dunno. Its about a team of people that go back in time to see dinosaurs or something. But they manage to screw up and then then the future is all arseways.

The trailer shows lots of special effect and bad acting. I presume it'l be a bit like the core mixed with Timeline.

Yep thats the one. Also out next month Saw 2 and The Fog remake. Added to the hitlist.

Corpse Bride is the one I'm looking forward to. Hopefully it'll give a reason for Tim Burtons existence over the past 11 years.

Another movie coming out. High Tension. Looks very f**ked up!

Go to http://www.pajabrothersgarage.com to see clips from it. Some of them give away too much of the gory scenes. Do click on the picture of the girl on the far right though. Great scene!!

It's not that good. Very nicely animated and with some standout scenes, but overall it's just an empty vessel.

Looking forward to Corpse Bride, Wallace and Gromit, and Serenity. A Scanner Darkly is based on one of Phillip K Dicks best novels, so it should be good. Finally, they seem to be making a film based on one of his better books, not the lesser ones that have been translated to film already (though Do Androids Dream... or Blade Runner is good). Hopefully it will lead to someone making Ubik, the best sci fi ive ever read. Come on Ubik!

I also wanted to add that there's a few not so big buget films coming out that look really good.

Jarhead - about the gulf war with Jake Gyellenhall and Jamie Fox. Chris Cooper is going to play a troop leader so that is bound to good.

The Squid and the Whale - Jeff Daniels and Laura Linney. I'm definatly gonna see that one.Very impressed by the trailer

Everything is Illuminated - I'm sure ye've heard of this one. Elijah Wood trying to get rid of that Frodo label. Based on a novel by Jonathan Safran Foer but adapted for the screen by Liev Schreiber. Looks quirky which I love in movies

Mirror Mask - A weird looking fantasy. I'm not sure about it but take a look. Lots of special effects and weird looking characters

    Thumbsucker - Another quirky one.

All of the trailers can be found at apple.com/trailers.

If ye spot any good ones post them up. I love finding out about new film hence the thread

It's playing here now. I don't think it's the musical version though.

    :(

Anyway, I can't wait to see 'Rent' and 'Just Like Heaven'... I think that's what it's called... with Reese Witherspoon.

Err, that's been out a couple of years now. On DVD and all. Look for its original name: Haute Tension.

Thanks Mr Giant. It was on the apple.com/trailers site and I thought it was new. Did it come to Ireland? I didn't see it in Xtra-Vision or my local Video Store.

It did but not for long - because clearly we needed more time for some Hollywood blockbusters. UGC showed it for 2 weeks IIRC...

I cannot bloody wait to see "Corpse Bride". Hopefully it will be as good as or even better than "Nightmare Before Christmas". That film is a masterpiece.

Anyone know if theres any more resident evil films in production?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,235 ✭✭✭iregk

hopefully not, they were terrible films. On the other side according to empire, Cameron is doing T4 and not Mostow as was previously said and guess who is coming back again: Yes, Ahnold... also the sequel to true lies, the aptly named true lies 2 is about to start shooting soon.

This was on Film 4 just last night! Went under the name Switchblade Romance. I'd heard about it a few years back and was interested by it. NTL doing Free Film 4 for the month so took it up and started seeing this advertised.

Good film, worth a look. Few parts of it that didn't really work for me towards the end but I did enjoy it. Some outstanding gore scenes.

Should be on again I think before the end of the month!

Ok another movie coming out. For those who haven't heard its called Slither directorial debut (I think he wrote it too) of the guy who did the remake of Dawn of the Dead (which I thought was over-rated).

Yeah, that's a film I'm really looking forward to. It was written and directed by James Gunn, who as you mentioned wrote the screeplay for the Dawn Of The Dead remake, but also, the two Scooby Doo movies.

    Unfortunately, yes. Resident Evil: Afterlife

    Why? Who knows.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,942 ✭✭✭missingtime

Yea slither looks like good fun alright.

I spotted this a few months ago. I thought it would be out by now. Its called Zathura. It supposed to come out at Thanksgiving in the states. Directed by John Favreau (Made and Swingers and to a lesser extent Monicas billionaire boyfriend in Friends)

Yea ...Moving Castle looks very interesting. Ye should really take a look at MirrorMask. I dunno what to make of it. Very fantasy orientated. Its being compared to The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth

Just looked it up again at imbd:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0366780/ - Stephen Fry and Rob Brydon are in it.

    The trailer is here http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/mirrormask/

Saw Thumbsucker, was deadly. Everyone should at least rent it out when it comes out on DVD.
A lot of really quirky performances from a solid ensemble cast.

:D It's amazing, but it's coming out here on Friday! I saw it in the IFI last Friday having awaited it for yeeeears! Y'see, the film is scored by Tim Delaughter and the Polyphonic Spree (my favourite band) and I got the OST a few months back. The music is incredible...I just about held myself back from jumping up and singing along to a few tunes!

Definitely a recommendation. Favourite film of the year..think I Heart Huckabees/Tenenbaums/Donnie Darko...

    DeNiro? Hitman?
    Gimme!

And I really hope they make some form of this one up... it could be one of the sexiest, awesomest hitman films ever... Natalie Portman CAN act, I've seen her do it!
Leon... Garden State... come on girl! You can do it!

Please Luc Besson... no aliens... they don't belong for fupps sake!

Just incase anyone's curious - this was a nice big failure.

    Budget: $10 million
Went to: 22 screens in the U.S.
Made: $42,000 (over 2 weeks amongst 22 screens- less than $1,000 per screen).

Terrible. Being dumped straight to DVD here. Shame - I didn't think the trailer looked awful either - however, if it hadn't been for this post, I would've never heard of this movie...? (I just always find it odd when a movie with Ray Romano and Hank Azaria can just slip under the radar...)

I heard over the weekend that they are making a movie of the Eragon book (Inheritance series). I didnt happen to follow the series myself but here is the link to the site.

    http://www.eragonmovie.com/

They are really getting stuck in hollywood for new ideas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,982 ✭✭✭ObeyGiant

Are you really suggesting that movie adaptations of popular books is a new thing? Because, I got news for you..

I really wish people would stop predicting the death of Hollywood's creative spirit.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,942 ✭✭✭missingtime

No not at all. But I would like to see more films that are not based on books/video games/comics. I just feel that they are looking more at breaking the special effects barrier rather that focusing on new original material.

I read the other day that Peter Jackson is thinking of writing a script for the movie adaptation of The Lovely Bones.

Personally I thoroughly enjoy movies that were originally books. Its great seeing your favourite characters on the big screen and the story obviously has to be pretty good in order for it to be made into a movie.
