Would anybody have an idea where to find out when the next body building competition in, or close to Dublin will take place?

Do more endurance sport myself, but work as personal trainer and Pilates instructor and would be interested what these events are like?

Also what exactly if the difference between a “normal bodybuilding competition” and a “natural bodybuilding competition”?

Any websites – contact numbers would be much appreciates!
    Cheers

The man to ask about natural bodybuilding shows would be the guy who runs World Gym in Talbot Street. I think his name is Dave, but whenever I can’t remember someone’s name I always tend to think they must be called Dave for some reason.

There’s a good few natural bodybuilders in the World Gym and they are regular attendees and competitors at the natural shows. ‘Dave’ (as we shall have to call him) is enthusiastic about natural bodybuilding and I think possibly helps to organize some of the natural shows.

The difference between a ‘natural’ and a ‘normal’ bodybuilding show is the difference between tins of tuna and bottles of steroids. They both train equally hard, but the difference in size is, well, huge. Do a Google search for something like “world natural bodybuilding champion” and then a search for someone called “Ronnie Coleman” or “Markus Ruhl”. Judge the difference for yourself.

To follow is a brief history on Natural Bodybuilding within Ireland. Mr. Bob Stewart founded an organisation called the Irish Association of Natural Bodybuilders in 1991. The IANB held it’s first national championships in 1992. Mr. Stewart is semi-retired from the fitness industry and in October of this year (1999) he offered the running of the organisation to myself. I changed the name from IANB to IABO and held the first National Championships under the new name in Liberty Hall on the 20th of November. The championship was a success and we had some decent press coverage of the event. There was a ¼ page article in the “city edition” of the Sunday Independent (21st November) and ¾ page article in the Sports section of the Irish Times (22nd November – page 6).

We are an organisation that promotes “natural” bodybuilding – this means that we adhere to the IOC guidelines for doping in sport and the list of illegal/banned substances is the same as those listed by the IOC’s medical commission. Bodybuilding is an exhibition sport in the 2004 Olympics in Athens. We as an organisation are working towards promoting this sport within Ireland and strongly believe that there are Natural Bodybuilders in Ireland who would/could be of a suitable international standard to warrant selection for such an event.

Ok so BB never made it to the olympics and never will. The IFBB is the organisation putting bb forward and Markus or Ronnie could enter if they desired.

As for natural comps and I do know!, the % of actual naturals competing is very low. Out of 8 shows and 4 years where I ran shows there are only 2 comps 100% natural, 2 or 3 more are questionable and the rest all juiced despite telling you they did not. The reason some are smaller etc. etc. is simply they are not determined enough (as we established already most 'naturals' juice), don't train or diet hard enough. Steroids are not magic, most people fcuk up their courses, don't eat adequately or train hard enough and in a lot of cases are not mentally or physically ready for taking steroids in the first place.

Bob Stewart owns/owned World Gym. Nice guy.

Duck Soup, thanks for the comment, will at some stage go to the World gym and talk to “Dave” to find out more.

Guv, interesting bit of information there about bodybuilding and “natural” bodybuilding in Ireland. Still think the mind set, desire to achieve and determination plays a big role in any competitive sport.

Often wondered what these people makes take drugs, as they often know about the possible or “guaranteed” side effects. Is if money, possibly again the desire to achieve, accomplish? Not sure?

Look at well e.g. at the “Tour de France” or any major international athletics meeting where sports people are over and over found of having taking drugs, EPO etc.

Definitely will google for (natural) bodybuilding for pics to compare and hopefully go to an event.

No money in BB, especially so in Ireland. People take steroids to get in better shape. As for side effects, there can be issues and problems.

Guys training hard both weights and cv in terms of bb, eating well, sleeping plenty, drinking lot's of water are imo healthy now the steroids on top in moderate dosages for an 8-12 week period perhaps twice a year is not excessive. Compare it to the chap who gets hammered once a week, possibly has a few cigs, eat sh1te and has a few beers one or two other nights of the week. Whose liver is more at risk?

I know guys of 60+ who look amazing have used gear probably for 40 years but never drank much and never smoked and trained all their lives - hard to look at them and think that steroids are as bad and evil as the press maintain. The reverse is a lad of 17 who knows nothing, is impatient and takes too much for too long with no idea on what to do when he comes off the steroids, spent all his money on gear and has none left for food or supplements etc. etc.

I'ver never used but may do so in very mild dosages from 40 onwards. I know a chap who at 55 took 1 shot of sustanon a week for 6 weeks - he got a little stronger, his shoulder became less inflamed and he added about 3kgs of decent weight to his physique.

Steroids are not evil or bad, they are however abused in a lot of cases. I am sure we've all taken steroids in one form or other over the years after getting prescribed something from the doctor etc.

As for the TDF - you need the gear to be able to complete this thing plain and simple no natural athlete would survive more than half this race.
