Was over there last Wednesday, a few of us did the indoor wall climbing. A good laugh I must say. Anyone else into the climbing? What sort of tips would you give for getting up the wall quicker, apart from using the legs more and keeping close to the wall? (going again tomorrow hence the questions)

It's not about getting up quicker. Start climbing the routes using single colours, then progress to harder routes.

yes I didn't exactly mean racing up the wall... more along the line of getting up quicker cos of following the proper routes / technique

Do a google on "Westwood climbing Clontarf", have the phone number somewhere but lost the bit of paper with the info.

Last week a group of us did it, 15 euro for 1.5 hours ... you would be knackered after it. They give you everything, just wear runners, tracksuit/shorts.

the Westwood in Sandymount has one too (not sure if it's a smaller though) - but it is very rarely used so might be an option if the Clontarf one is busier

    details closer to the time.

Parallel to our adult climbing club we are delighted to present
the “Cliffhangers” U-18 climbing club. This is the only one of its kind in
Dublin. The minimum age to climb is 7. The juniors will partake in the
same events as the adults but the club night is a little earlier, running
from 5-8pm every Thursday. The cost is also the same.

Sandymount Wall sucks ass with a straw.

What does that mean? You agree?

well it's a climbing wall, and perhaps 'sucks ass with a straw' (as you put it) less than having to travel to the other side of the city... not getting on a better one if it's too busy... and depending on a person's experience might be perfectly adequate for them

(hint: placing your mouse pointer on a smilie pop's up it's meaning :))

Ahh, so that my smiley problem solved. Sandymount is too small really to be of any use, I've climbed on it once and I wouldn't have any intention of going back. The whole wall was badly planned and wasn't built properly or in a safe way. When it was originally tested for insurance reasons it failed all strength tests. That's what you get when it's built by a bog standard builder. In fact, I thought Sandymount Westwood was pretty poor overall.

fair enough :) that's a better explination than 'sucks ass with a straw' anyhow ;) maybe that's why there is very (very) rarely anyone on it...

sandymount is a small gym but has a decent variety of equipment and when it is within walking distance it's perfect, especially off-peak when the place is almost empty... it's pretty much a smaller version of the other westwoods really
