Decent card. Emmanuel Fernandez is a great fighter. He's beaten some top names and has fought in all the major cw shows in the UK. Tomas Murnikas is one to watch out for.. He impressed me in his last two fights.

emanuel fernandez: member of the french top team and has competed in quite a few cage warriors shows in the uk with wins over ian butlin and lee remedios

renato Migliaccio: 2-0 in mma - fought in kotc and mma eruption

Petras Morkevicius: rings / shooto vet in lithuania

    Jerome Laulan:another ftt member

dont know anything about Gauthierot or Clifford - im sure others can fill us in on these guys

a lot of sbg guys on there - sbg v the rest of ireland perhaps? - no doubt we will get a breakdown from john kavanagh soon enough -and good luck to all training for fights - lets hope they all stay healthy over the next month

looking forward to seeing this, never been before, so about time. I might even learn something even by watching!

    Good luck to all!

and get the road work in!

might interest you to know, gerry, that Brandon Clifford is a KM instructor in london.

look out for Adrian Degorski, one of the few guys to KO the ubiquitous MMA star Paul Jenkins. he retired from MMA competition over 2 years ago as Cage Warriors champion to persue a pro boxing career but that didn't work out so he's back fighing MMA. you could argue he's got the best set of hands in uk/ireland MMA. he's got a tough test with the Tomahawk, classic striker v grappler. i'm sure paddy c will attest to adrian's striking ability!
    Decent card

i'd go as far as to say its an Excellent card! yes i'm biased but i think you'd do well to find a better card on any european show. all very explosive fighters, theres a couple of fights there that could headline any of the major uk shows. fingers crossed the 'MMA Gods' keep them safe over the next couple of weeks.

I heartily endorse this event or product. :D

As jk says he's super, and in better shape than ever, i dont think anyone in Ireland/uk gonna have fire power for this fella, will be sweet to watch him fighting again

Tomas Murnikas (SBG) v Owen Dempsey (NG) 70kgs

Tomas Murnikas, fighting out of Straight Blast Gym, is one of Ireland's most exciting up and coming fighters. At the first Rings event, he lost out to the highly rated British fighter Oliver Ellis, but gave a great account of himself, especially considering he accepted the fight on just seven days notice. In his last fight, at Ring of Truth 3, Murnikas gave a dominating performance, winning by TKO in the first round and showcasing his fast hands, tight clinch and devastating ground n' pound.

For Next Generation Dublin fighter, Owen Dempsey, this event - “Reborn”, is aptly titled. Losing his national 70kgs title at Ring of Truth 3, Dempsey will be hungry and looking to prove himself. With a slew of TKO and KO victories on his record, Dempsey’s striking skills are formidable, and he’ll undoubtedly have taken his ground skills to another level for this comeback fight.

Can the wily veteran overcome the rising star or will Rings: Reborn see new talent rise to the occasion?

I'll vouch for that. I was really impressed by him, especially going up against someone with the experience of Ollie.

Will Clive run out of witty and interesting one liners or can he continue to impress us with his sharp play on words? :D

Seriously, keep it up the fight previews my friend!

Micheal Leonard (SBG) v Neil Seery (Shika) 65kgs

Considered by many to be the best Irish fighter in this weight class, Mick "Sissy Boy" Leonard has wowed audiences at Ring of Truth, Rings, Extreme Combat and many other events. His high octane clinch style earned him the deserved nickname "The King of the Slam" and his relentless pressure on the ground has ensured that every one of Leonard's fights have ended by submission.

Sources close to Leonard have revealed, however, that he has been working intensively on his striking and intends to showcase this for the crowd at Dublin's National Stadium

Ring of Truth veteran Neil Seery has nothing to lose and everything to gain in this matchup. A win over the experienced and well known Leonard would catapult him straight into the ranks of the top fighters at this weight, and show that the upcoming Shika camp is a force to be reckoned with. If Seery can connect with one of his unorthodox but powerful Genki Sudo style spinning attacks, this fight could well end in an explosive fashion.

Will Leonard hesitate due to an unfamiliar strategy and allow Seery to claim a major scalp, or will the audience at Rings:Reborn witness the return of the King?

I'm the source having thought you the lethal, and I mean that literally, side peircing kick. Hope you don't mind me going public, but it's high time the public knew the deadlinessiciuosness of my methods.

On another note, I can't wait for Clive to write the one about his own fight...

Árni Ísaksson (SBG) v Aidan Marron (PC) 75kgs

Árni "Ironman" Ísaksson, fights out of Straight Blast Gym, so we can be sure the enigmatic Icelander will have a good clinch and ground game. Ísaksson also has some experience in Muay Thai, so he may try to push the action from standing, as his opponent, while a rounded fighter, is mostly known for his submission skills.

Aidan Marron, from Progressive Combat has been on an upswing lately. His only recent loss was been a decision which went to British fighter Dave Metcalf - just one week after Marron's win over Point Blank Submissions' highly rated John Walsh. With wins by submission, referee stoppage and decision, the Northerner has proved that he has not only the skills to finish, but also the heart to continue no matter what.

Can Marron force his opponent to experience the long arctic night, or will the Icelandic volcano erupt in Dublin? We'll find out, on October 15th!

Adrian Degorski (SBG) v Tom Haddock (PBS) 80kgs

It's a cliché, but every event needs one, so here it is ... a classic striker versus grappler matchup!

Two years ago, Adrian Degorski was one of the hottest prospects in MMA. Boxing for the Polish national team, and with a record of 65-2, Degorski exploded onto the scene with a KO victory over the Welsh sensation, Paul "Hands of Stone" Jenkins. Training with Straight Blast Gym, the Pole's tremendous work ethic saw him absorb every grappling nuance coach John Kavanagh could pass on. However, Degorski's skills had not gone unnoticed, and a professional boxing career was calling. Relocating and rededicating himself to his first love, Degorski left the Mixed Martial Arts scene on a high and with the fans wanting more.

The most experienced fighter in Ireland, Tom Haddock, although known for his submission skills, has proved that he can fight at all ranges by winning his last three fights by TKO. Although the southpaw may frustrate Degorski on the feet, most commentators feel that Haddock will look to take this fight to the ground as soon as possible. Equally able to apply a submission hold or to rain down strikes from a top position, Haddock will be trying to get past the boxer's hands into the clinch. From here the fight will be depend on whether Degorski has kept his grappling skills sharp enough to keep the Galwayman at bay, or if two years of ring rust will prove too much to overcome.

Two incredibly tough fighters, a striker who can grapple versus a grappler who can strike, this may well be the fight of the night. Nobody can predict the outcome of this matchup, but one thing is for sure - it will be a war!

Clive Staunton – SBG vs Alan Seery – Shika -75kgs

Clive Staunton could quite easily be the best kept secret of the Straight Blast Gym; in his only MMA fight he scored a KO win over the Tomahawk Tom Haddock, one of the top middle weights in the country. That was back in Ring of Truth 1 and since then Clive has been honing his skills in preparation for his next foray, most recently he completed a tour of Brazil, where he further improved his already slick Jiu Jitsu skills.

His opponent Alan Seery of the SHIKA club in Dublin is also a veteran of the Ring of Truth, where he lost to Paddy Carmoddy of Tralee Extreme Fighting. In that fight Alan showed a great tenacity on his feet, and looked like he had the ability to finish the match. On the ground during that match things did not go so well, as he wound up mounted for long periods of time. That could spell disaster for Alan this time around and I am sure his escapes have improved immensely, but I would still expect him to look to keep the match standing, although with head shots allowed on the ground I think it will suit his aggressive ground style better.

I think the key to victory will hinge on who controls the stand up. If Clive gets the better of Alan standing then it will make a takedown/submission from Clive a strong possibility. If Alan can take control of the stand up early however it will put a lot more pressure on Clive’s takedowns and it could be a long night for Staunton as he tries to bring the match to the ground.
Expect this one to be an electric battle right from the word 'go'

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,759 ✭✭✭✭dlofnep

I was waiting on Clive to write up his own review :P

"Clive Staunton is a man's man with fists made of stone and shins made of steel. He crushes his opponents like a gorilla's hand crunches paper."

Francis Heagney (SBG) v Greg Loughran (PC) 70kgs

Heagney, previously known for his powerful takedowns and relentless ground n' pound has recently shown the Irish MMA fans that he also possesses slick submission skills. Dropping in weight, this already powerful fighter will be a terror in this category.

Loughran, whose recent wins include a KO win over Heagney's teammate, Willie Hamill and a submission win to take the title from Owen Dempsey has proved that he is a dangerously rounded fighter who can finish from any situation.

Heagney has a very tight top game, but can Loughran take him out of his comfort zone with a sweep or takedown, forcing the SBG fighter to fight off his back?

Will the Progressive Combat fighter's committed striking give Heagney the opening to take him down, or will Loughran secure another submission win, confirming his status as top dog at 70kgs?

Jerome Laulan (France) v Brandon Clifford (Ireland) 93kgs

In the first international matchup on the card, Brandon Clifford, representing Ireland, will face Frenchman Jerome Laulan.

Skilled both in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai, Clifford will be comfortable standing or on the ground. A true powerhouse, Clifford has represented Ireland many times in powerlifting and is a krav maga instructor in the UK. Returning to his native shores, he will have the crowd fully behind him.

With a judo background, many opponents are wary of Laulan’s clinch and impressive throws. This allows the Frenchman to unload with vicious strikes, which more often than not send his opponents crashing to the canvas. A veteran of FX3 and CWFC Strike Force, Laulan also has submission wins under his belt, so this fight could be ended by either fighter at any time.

Can Clifford extend his undefeated pro record in his own back yard, or will the partisan crowd spur Laulan on to prove his worth in the Lion’s Den? We’ll find out at Rings : Reborn!

Christophe Gauthierot (Fr) v Petras Morkevicius (Lit) 84kgs

The next international matchup will feature Frenchman Christophe Gauthierot taking on the much more experienced Petras Markevicius from Lithuania.

Coming into this matchup with just one pro fight under his belt, Gauthierot may be viewed by many as the underdog. However the 27 year old has been European and World kenpo “knockdown” champion for the past two years running, so he is clearly a skilled striker. Also having secured second place in the French Shooto championship, Gauthierot has proven that he has the full range of skills for MMA. His victory in his first pro fight with a stunning first round knockout, however, will undoubtedly be at the forefront of his opponents mind.

With an 8-5-0 record in Mixed Martial Arts and a 4-4-0 record in shooto, Petras Markevicius is a highly experienced fighter with the majority of his wins coming by submission. Coming into this matchup with a height advantage, this veteran may look to keep his opponent at bay long enough to set up a shoot for a takedown.

Can the Frenchman impose his gameplan and keep this fight standing or will the Markevicius’ experience allow him to bide his time and set up another submission win?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,448 ✭✭✭Roper

ttt for the top-class international talent!!!! The Lithuanian lads in my job tell me that the Shooto standard over there is extremely high. Anyone with a record in that is going to make a tough opponent.
