My question is I can jog the 2 mile in 12-13 mins and I can takw 20 mins at a slower pace,

which is better for loosing weight ? I usually jog it in the 13 mins,

neither are long enough to shift more than a couple of hundred calories, which is only a couple of slices of toast.
Your best bet is to up the distance and the time.

Also are you sure of the distance, 2 miles in 12 mins is 6 min/mile, which is extremely quick for a jogger. If you can do it that quick then you should easiliy be able to up your runs to 5 miles+ 4 times a week at a pace somewhere in between the 2 above which should help you loose weight.

    Hi Tech,

This is a very common question and often leads to confusion. I've posted at length on this before, but the adridged version of it is this.

Training at a heart Rate of 50 - 70 % approx of your max HR results in 85% of all the calories you burn being from your fat reserves. Hence many btrainers say you should train for long periods of time at a medium pace. That's fine, you'll lose weight.

On the other hand at heart rate zones of 80% + you get reduced fat burning but more overall calories. As such even though the number of fat is reduced in total you will burn more.

Theyre are other benefits in these zones as well, affecting your fitness levels, V2 max etc.

I personally recommend for most of my clients a twenty minute interval training session. That said I don't know you or your fitness levels, I don't know your medical history or fitness background, and as such could not recommend nor design a full program for you.

I have written a intorductory guide on Heart Rate Training, it covers all of this in greater detail and should provide you with a good base to make your own training decisions. If you would like a copy PM with your email address.
