    Methinks it's www.irishfuelprices.com

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,544 ✭✭✭✭Idbatterim

thanks, dont think that was the site though, anyone else know any other similar sites?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 117 ✭✭Newshound

irishfuelprices.ie never had any entries under home heating oil.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,588 ✭✭✭Bluetonic

You can't trust any of these sites to be honest, becasue with both sites anyone can edit the prices.

Best bet is to get out the phone book and just ring around.

Oil prices are fluctuating so much at the moment you'd be taking a risk getting a 1000 liters fill. In the last few days the price has gone down by a few pence per litre.

Just filled 1,000 last week with EMO, price difference of +€50 or thereabouts compared to last year. I was bracing for impact, landing was softer than in that bog-roll advert... Go Figure

Just out of curiosity ambro25 - how much was your 1000 litres? have to fill up myself before winter but holding off as the prices seem to be coming down a bit....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,986 ✭✭✭ambro25

€510 before Tax (Tax is VAT, I think?)

Cheaper Heating Oil will give you an indication as will Emo.

To give you an indication of how prices have gone up.

    1000 litres of kerosene cost:

    €405 - October 2002
    €360 - November 2003
    €566 - March 2004
    €476 - Sept 2004
    €630 - August 2005
    €612 - September 2005

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 117 ✭✭Newshound

Ambro - Where did you get your oil.

Emo is cheapest i've found at €612 per 1000L today.

I got a fill this time last year from them for €450 for 1000l

I thinki i'll wait a few weeks and see if the price goes down.

cheaperheatingoil.ie has and outrageous price today - €650

€612 is inc. VAT (but I reclaim it :D)

EDIT: Oh and yeah, it was EMO.

    €612 quid? christ...

at least it seems to be coming down a little compared to Zaks list up there...

    Not fair :)
    How did you reclaim it?
    Was it for your office?

Anyone get any good prices in August let me know! It aint cheap out there.............yikes!

Does "imported" mean delivered at midnight by guys in balaclavas? Are they as accommodating when you want Social Welfare, Childrens allowance, Rent subsidy etc, etc.....................?

Actually it was during the day and there was no sign of any balaclavas....................

I also "source" my home heating oil in the occupied counties cause it's cheaper! I have never received social welfare, have a large mortage, married no children (and never will).
So I don't feel guilty avoiding a little tax!!:)

Doesn't matter if it was Sunday morning after Mass. Your use of quotation marks imply that you used, shall we say, a questionable source. Given the rampant crime wave in the country it galls me that people give succour to these guys for the sake of a few quid.

This is not tax avoidance this is tax evasion, but it is the support of the criminal elements involved that is the bigger sin in my book.

The parent's business is oil delivery. Prices have been going up like crazy lately. There is no cheap oil to be got at the moment. It's a very bad time of year for it to be so dear as this is when most people need it.

Yes it is even dearer with some companies when you buy less than 1000 litres. Texoil are dear (er) as the unit price for lower quantities goes up. I have no doubt that it is a little cheaper in rural areas. As far as I can remember EMO Oil charge the same unit price for 500 or 1000 litres. Of course missus now wants to convert to gas..........

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 829 ✭✭✭standbyme

Yeah its E80 dearer with us since last year, as that price is for a rural area.

Thank god we didnt give up the bog :) but it was a rough year for it & got it out late :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 566 ✭✭✭TKK

To put it simply the unit cost has to be higher for quantities less than 1000 litres. Why? Well because it costs the same to deliver 100 litres as 1000 litres. As this cost is now being spread over a reduced quantity the price must rise to recoup the cost.

I would seriously doubt that there is any company doing the same unit cost for 500 & 1000 litres unless as a special offer of somesort.

    Nov 2006 - 1000ltrs kerosene = €560
    Nov 2007 - 1000ltrs kerosene = €700

    A 25% increase in 12 months!

Might actually put that big draught of a open fire into operation feeding it the West of Irelands finest black gold (AKA Turf! :D )

Just pay a bit more and dont make a fuss, you know they'll start charging people who cant afford to pay more just to keep the big buyers happy.

www.schoolbooks.ie do just that, they have a banner ad on this page! No idea who they are associated with. My tank is about 900 litres so it is pretty pointless getting the 1000l comparison alright.

From looking at that site they do the same price for all quantities! In practice this is not the case. Anyone getting 2500 litres will get a better price than someone getting 1000. Also 900 litres would normally be charged at the 1000 litre price.

I don't know about schoolbooks as i haven't used them but I have used Emo where they HAVE charged the same unit price which is fair enough for those that don't have a big tank.

Are Emo the best distributer out there usually?

New to the oil game - as I had gas in my old house, and to be honest struggling with it!

Firstly, order €200 just before Xmas - lasted all of 5 weeks.
It is timed to come on for 3 hours per day!

I know oil was dear then.
So ordered €200 worth (think I got just over 250 litres) from Emo

Is the trick to just fill when you can?

I see Emo allow you pay 1/3 up front - and the balance by direct debit.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 566 ✭✭✭TKK

TBH ordering €200 at a time is the least value for money way of buying oil. The best value is usually to be found when ordering up on 900/1000 litres (though at the moment this will set you back about €670).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,019 ✭✭✭ct5amr2ig1nfhp

Ordered last week. Emo Oil €665, Dublin (was €675 but I had a €10 voucher). 1000L Gas Oil.

Just a warning on prices - Oil hit $100 today which is a 15% hike over the past 10 days. Because there is no duty on home heat this feeds to a greater increase in Home heat oil than petrol. I'd expect prices to move to €750 per 1000 litres in the next 2 / 3 weeks if world oil prices hold at $100
