There's something unsettling about grown men whining like teenage hairdressers.

  • Site Banned Posts: 152 ✭✭Resurrection

Cancer of punk to be honest. It's not even punk. Nothing annoy's me more than the typical EMO look, the hair pulled across the face, side lip piercing and of course the extra large tongue.

Go listen to Anti-flag - emo sux. Those guys have the right idea

Don't make me laugh. You already have a forum for whining. It's called feedback.

It really pisses me off when people slate other genres. I like some emo, but in the same way I like some alternative and pop-rock. I'm ashamed to say I'm more of a metalcore man myself. Jeeze, what a false industry. Anyway, yeah, emo can be ok, if exceedingly irritating at times.

I'm surprised to see so many narrow-minded and ignorant people in a punk forum! In case you don't realise it.. the punk following has become more a minority than emo these days( in Dublin anyway). Emo is a very broad genre and there are plenty of bands I like and don't like! Emo isn't far off from punk unless you're comparing it to hardcore raw punk ****! Why don't you guys grow up?..

Oh and yes anti-flag are pretty good and used to love 'em back in my more punk days.

You might also notice that on most torrent sites you will find emo bands mixed in with the punk section and a lot of the time overtaking the punk bands! Another example was the absolute punk channel on irc.

So lads..g'wan back to your punk-only topics then and before I get slated..I DON'T have emo hair, I DON'T dress emo either..I just like the music and support the local emo bands too!

If you like emo check out my mates message boards emohardcore.tk

Yeah maybe what you say is correct AND ITS A DAMN SHAME. As stated above it is the cancer of punk. Raw underground progressive punk. This GENRE is turning punk into a fashion statement and it's absolutely disgusting.

Obviously its not for everyone..but neither is punk! I've moved from punk onto emo. To be honest I do hate the scene look! Some people take it TOO far ie. guys wearing girls jeans 'cause they're tighter! Just not into that..or the whole straight edge thing. But its not that much different to other genres if you think about it?

Emo is a way of life..

Hip-hop is a way of life..

Punk is pretty much a way of life too...

Punk to me is progressive and it's purpose serves to make a difference and expose the flaws in society. Go listen to some Propagandhi or something political. I've no time for EMO lyrics nd good charlotte look alikes. Walking outside the HUB on a Saturday afternoon is hilarious.
There are a hell of alot more serious things going on than personal problems in this world.

We are not narrow minded #####!

People relating emo to punk is what drags punk down, grown men going round looking like a bunch of ##### moaning and whinging 'bout how some stupid girl dumped them when they were 15 is pretty stupid and gives us a bad name.

Gimme old skool emo anyday, These new emo bands on the other hand are pretty disgraceful.

Hey hey hey, how is straight edge even remotely related to emo???

I'm kinda straight-edge myself but i don't know where yere linking emo with straight edge there.....

  • Site Banned Posts: 152 ✭✭Resurrection

There are plenty of straight edge hardcore punks out there. It's personal preference if they want to respect their body.

Well, straight edge is a fairly universal thing but i just don't see where he's linking it with emo.

AH noo I'm leaving this thread.. I'm not getting into another straight edge discussion... if you don't drink you don't drink... are you trying to say you're cooler than everyone else 'cause you're "straight edge"?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,081 ✭✭✭su_dios

Most of the people I know who are emo like to think they're staright edge! A lot of people seem to think being straight edge makes you more emo!... I don't get the whole straight edge thing tho' so sorry if I'm wrong here

Not at all because that would be retarded. Personally I put a hell of alot of substances in my body and that would make me opposite but If people want to be straight edge so be it.

Straight edge isn't a link to anything musical or mystical. It's just a personal preference really.

    Straight edge is cool?

You must be joking me, I'm the only person i knwo around here who's straight edge and sometimes i get a lot of #### for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,002 ✭✭✭acri

I think because Eighteen Visions are a straight edge emo/hardcore/metalcore band, a lot of those oh so impressionable emo kids think it's cool to be straight edge. Emo is pretty much a fashion and being straight edge is simply an accessory.
