I've been to a few bodybuilding shows and - whatever you may think about the activity itself; an eclectic mixture of sport, aesthetics and sub-culture - I always find them great places for getting gym gear, lifting straps, whey protein, amino acid etc.

There used to be an Republic of Ireland Federation of Bodybuilders (RIFBB) website that advertised the shows. Then it just went quiet, no updates. Now it seems to have disappeared competely. It seems ridiculous in this day and age that they don't use the cheapest and most wide-reaching medium available to them to promote the shows. Is the organisation and its competitions still around?

Ditto NABBA Ireland. Can't find a bean on-line about them either.

NABBA show is this Sunday in Vicar st, doors for night show are 6pm, prejudjing 11 am (it runs from 1pm to 4 pm), tickets are on ticketmaster.ie!

The RIBBF is very poorly run. The standard is also lower! It's down in Limerick this year so I amn't gonna treck down but I will be at the NABBA one - getting introduced to Gary Lister (IFBB pro) too!

The RIBBF took place on the 11th September.

Thanks Guv and Easygainer! And you’re right – it was the RIBBF that I was referring to. It kinda confoozes me, because I assume that they are the Irish ‘branch’ of the IFBB. In any event, I tried http://www.ribbf.ie and it came up empty.

After a bit more rooting around, I came across http://forum.fitnessireland.ie/ which is not the liveliest board you ever visited, but did have the following exchange on a thread entitled ‘National Chapionships’:

Ian: Hey, I can’t seem to load the RIBBF website. Is there a problem?

    The response?

Webmaster: I shut it down, due to lack of interest.

I can’t help but thinking he might have had a lot more interest if he had a discussions forum and some regular updates.

The NABBA Ireland grassroots seem a lot healthier, but once again, I can’t find a web presence for them. In fact, I can’t find a site dedicated to Irish BBing anywhere. It still seems ludicrous in this day and age that either organisation – for minimal cost and effort – can’t slap up a web page, announcing the shows for the year and giving links as to where to get tickets. My guess is that, for an outlay of very little, they’d have a good few extra seats filled.

In the future, I’ll just have to keep an eye on this board (and any others I can find). I know there are usually a few small posters put up in hardcore gyms for the shows, but unfortunately Westwood Sandymount (fine establishment though it is) probably doesn’t qualify as hardcore.

Once again guys, thanks for the heads up. I’ll try to get along to Vicar Street and hold in my gut in for a couple of hours.
