    1st annual Clonakilty Juggling Convention!

I stole this info from Emerald Circus, as i know that many people here don't read it. By the way, for anyone who doesn't know me, I'm Helen, one of the organisers of the EJC Ireland 2006. Hope to bump into ye all soon. Here's the sceal: :D

30th Sept to 2nd Oct 2005, Clonakilty, Co Cork

Good day to all ye Irish jugglers and listen to this great bit of
news concerning the 1st Conakilty Juggling Convention.
It will consist of 3 days of juggling madness, beginning on a
friday (28th) with a spot of juggly stuff and a nice old fire night.
The next day there will be lots of juggling, a few workshops (ill be
doing 3,4,5 ball shower workshop, i think there will be a poi
workshop and maybe a few others, anyone is welcome to do anything),
maybe a public show, still under consideration, there will be a
venue for a renegade (has a stage, bar and is pretty funky). And
sunday will be games with lots of prizes. Oh there is also going to
be camping either in the town, or a few km out of town (if so there
will be a bus to transport people back and forth). Oh, there will be
wristbands (or something), going at around 15 euro give or take a
    bit.
Ill need a list of people interested.
The organisers will be me (darragh btw, brother to ronan), ronan and
eibhin. Any help would be great. Spread the word to all the jugglers
    you know.

    Keep me informed,
    Keep on defying gravity,
    Darragh mrfishfinger@hotmail.com

First person to answer accuratly and isn't Emmet gets a prize.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭amazingemmet

    I want a prize.

Does anyone else come in here bar me and you?

I vote for a general forum topic change to "the sexy ladies of juggling" for pics to qualify the girls have to be holding balls. anyone else agree?

This year's Clon Con is on the weekend of 25/26 August. Don't know any more details...

    Stephen.

Prize to Stephen. I yet have to figure out what it is.
No prize for Emmet, and while I dont disagree with your idea, I have my doubts the forum will last long.
    Arse.

Has anyone heard anything concrete recently from those good folk down in Clon? There's a bit of a lack of definate information about the place...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭amazingemmet

Dee you of all peiople should know that they're stoner hippy type jugglers, so tbh they don't know anything concrete, besides the floor which they wake up on frequently. Though its juggling con all you need is dates and a venue.

That said, there had been some mention of having the campsite nearer to the hall than last year... details would be helpful before I decide that I'm getting too old and decrepid for Irish camping and opt for something in the town.

    Just asked Darragh:
it is the weekend of the 25th
"Camping is walking distance from hall, normal fee for conventions, hopefully 24 hour hall on friday. Lots of fancy workshops. Nice venue for renegade."

I think it's the same hall as last year and there's a pub in town for the renegade. I'm hoping to debut a never before seen Diabolo trick at renegade...

    See you in Clon then!

Email from Darragh to emeraldcircus RE Clon Con:

    25th-27th aug (last weekend aug).
Sounds like its gonna be fancy AND fantastic at the same time folks.

Heres the kinda plan, but not really as there is no plan, but it will
    have to do for now...:

    Fri(25th)
Meet and greet(and registration, of course) in the hall, (if you dont
know where it is ask someone who was here last year). Where hopefully,
(please note hopefully) this will be open for 24 hours, for non stop
juggling (well 27 actually), before we rest at the renegade show the
next day (we shall discuss this later). This is still under
negotiation so everyone channel your energy this direction. The doors
open on fri at 6pm, so if your there earlier you MIGHT be able to get
in, but im not going to promise anything yet. Oh camping is available,
closer this time, prob a 5 min walk from hall, dont know prices but
ill try and get them as low as i can. But you prob wont need to sleep
this night if your a REAL juggler!

    Sat(26th.....)
Super fun day, so twice as much fun as a normal fun day. Workshops all
day including : alexander technique (extended to 2 hours this time,
2nd hour hopefully will be more personalised for the interested),
capoeira, jambe, sushi, something siteswappy (thats me), something
interesting for you poi people (ronan), hula hoop (some strange french
person), oh new and fancy fancyness from some french guy i found in
the park in clon, and some other stuff that i cant remember or will
think up on the day. After all that lark we will all be herded up to a
place called "The Venue" which really is The Venue for our renegade
show, which also, will be super fancy too. This is from like 9-11 i
think, when then the doors open to the public (AGH sorry i couldnt
help it), from this point we can stay there till 12, 1ish, 2,
depending what the general vibe is, or if i decide differently closer
to date. Im trying to get a super fancy after party on the go....if
there is enough enthusiastic people i can arrange a super fancy thing
in a really nice beach about 25 min from clon (i know a taxi man with
minibus who will ferry people out), this is all in sand dunes and with
a generator i recently got my hands on it could be some fun, but if
anything else comes up or anyone has ideas, post em.

    Sun (27th)
Crawl out from the hole we ended up in, get back to hall somehow, try
to juggle, hopefully everyone is awake enough for games, really fancy
new games, hosted by Fay the Fantastic. Then hall closes at 6, you all
leave or whatever, thats it. I think. Well its prob not but ill change
it if it isnt.So yeah, save up if you have no money, find a lift if
you have none. See you in a week and a bit.

    Darragh

    Hey,

Unfortunately no I didnt, logistics with buses and times made it impossible though I tried valiantly up till the last.

    How was it?

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 3,331 ✭✭✭Splinter

amazing, brilliant line up and a great job by the organisers. really worth going next year. easily one of my most favourite conventions of the year :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14 Run

oh brilliant, though no Im even more sorry i missed it, yea i would have loved to have gone and the weather seemed to hold up too. what other conventions are there? i heard something about one in tullamore. is there anything on between here and christmas? ideally somewhere closer to dublin?

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 3,331 ✭✭✭Splinter

hmm next one is in tralee in november, run by a group of jugglers called the fanzini jugglers who are performing in meetinghouse square tonight (ill start another thread about that in a minute). tullamore is the phoenix fire festival which takes place in july if my memory serves me right. there is a dublin juggling convention every year, usually febuary/March.
