Does anyone know what's the signifigance of 501s compared to other levi types. It seems just about every different type of jeans made by levis are 501s, but there are other types too. What's the difference?

Nope they are not all 501's. 501 denotes the style, the other styles have different numbers.

    Rule of thumb

501's will never look cutting edge.

On the other hand, they'll still look cool as long as you have 'em, and they fit...

*edit* all of which is my way of saying that there'll be a million different types of levis in any store you go to...but the 501 is the flagship, regular fit, no fcuking around, vanilla thing. colours may change from season to season, the fit doesn't...

Not a fan myself. They're far too tight.

Eugh, I hate them. They really remind me of knackers, because they wear them with Nike Air Max and jumpers with shirts underneath and loads of chains. HAWT. On a guy, I like Boss jeans, Jack Jones do nice ones too, and Levi's Anti Fit are pretty cute as well.

Gap jeans are really good, got a pair when I was in America, great fit, comfortable and they look great too. Not a fan of 501s, but some of the other Levis' styles are great. Relatively cheap too, compared to, say, Diesel or Jack & Jones

501s are the original riveted denim jeans. They first got the number 501 in the 1890s. They also have the best denim and the most stitching of any of the Levi's range. 501's are the father of all the other jeans out there. the rest are copies(sometimes enhancements) of the original.

Anti fit and all the other extreme "fashion" jeans will doubtless become like the silly flares of the 70's and those who wore flares back then will tell you the embarrassment of finding old photos in drawers later in life. :D Offhand, I can think of at least one of my mates where all jeans are anti fit. Maybe he's got an antibody(ouch :o )

You have to be a certain shape to get away with 501's though(skinny by today's standards). They don't sit well on everybody. Then again I'm in my 30's so anti fit on me would rightfully attract gales of laughter(not as bad as shorts and sandals on 30+ men. Stop. Stop now. it's just silly).

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

If you wear 501s in your coffin, Jeebus will let you into heaven early.
