What does the average trinner do for drink,
do you mostly drink in someones flat first and then go out, or just pay pub prices?
do you all then have bottles of vodka/whiskey in your rooms?
I am going to trinity this year and am curious.

I think everyone will agree that the majority of trinity students drink cans in the pav or buttery (usually bavaria and tuborg). They're bought there so they're more expensive than off-license beer but far cheaper than draft. In extra-poor times we sneak in centra-bought cans. This can be risky however and they must be kept concealed, especially in the pav.

Oh and just a note: generally only non-trinity students say trinner, usually in a satirical tone while casting their eyes to heaven.

    Edit:

    Oh good christ!

I twice tried to make orange wine, if this pruno tastes anything like that rancid death juice I'm never going near it.

well im happy so long as iv a pint of Guinness and a bag of roasted peanuts :), that Druids stuff is rotten and it's so strong it goes straight to the head, one of my friends who is by no means a light weight got completely off her head on two cans.

If i had to choose a beer it would have to be Tuborg all the way :)!

Beer de France because you feel like a giant drinking those little bottles.

I agree, Druids seems temptingly cheap and appley, but really, it is evil gall. And it will make you do stupid things and feel horrible.

The most common way to achieve this end is to start with 4 bavaria in the pav (e7.50), then 4 bavaria in the pav (e7.50), 4 bavaria in the pav (e7.50) usually follows and some wandering follows.

I would have thought the most common way would have been to buy 6 bavaria from centra (€7.00) and then buy 6 bavaria from centra (€7.00) and then continue on as...well unplanned...

I have a strange confession to make.
    "Druid's has hullusinagenic properties"
I stay away from the stuff since I last drank it 4 years back in the Pav. Got on a Bus home at 9.30. Woke up outside DonnyBrook Bus Depot at 4am with my phone ringing. It was my local Gardai station. Still to this day I have no clue what happened over those 6 hours. NO one was with me and I had a Nightclub stamp on my hand(don't know where for) and a phone number entered in my phone. I rang it and a girl called Natalie answered. SOunded lovely but she couldn't answer any of my questions concerning my absent mind. Might try hypnotism sometime...

In the mean time stay away from Druid's. Stick to more reliable drugs like Shrooms and Cannabis.

Janey that really is one of the craziest things I've ever heard! For me the Buttery followed by Doyle's is the usual plan of action.

It sounds really horrible. I heard it has the seeds in it? That's good, they're apparently meant to aid digestion and have vitamins or something. Just as long as they have no bud (as in from a plant) in them..

Not a personal problem mind you.. Just that the porterhouse would be quite closed down if that were the case.

whats the story ed, what you forget to mention is on your description of the typical nite out is the point of the night that you realise that only fools pay for pints when they can be obtained easily and economically by walking over to an empty table, these pints though warm also come with healthy dose of various diseases.not sure if you can get it in the banana republic but tennents extra strong is the only 12% beer i've seen on this island (it tastes like extra strong bavaria but with extra death)

Haha, hey man. I seem to be no worse today after that, however I'm not taking the incubation period of these diseases. Dya remember the four of us sharing the full pint of erdinger just left on our table by some foreigner who didnt return for it?? We're such painfully poor students..

Yuck, yuck, yuck... i'm not much of a beer drinker, but i like everything the Porterhouse brews (esp the Oyster Stout), however the hemp beer was not a nice experience. I didn't finish the glass - it was that bad. It tasted like someone had taken a pint of beer, added some stale herbs, boiled it and then cooled it down again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,382 ✭✭✭snorlax

Oyster stout, it's not actually made from oysters is it?

Did the Hemp beer make you real relaxed or anything?!;)

Oysters were oft considered the ideal dish to accompany stout. The porterhouse went one better and actually do use oysters in the brewing of this beer. I have to admit it is quite delicious. Won all sorts of awards too..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,281 ✭✭✭regi

It definately has oysters in it, and a little note saying that its not suitable for vegetarians/vegans

Although most stout isn't suitable for vegetarians/vegans as it's filtered through isinglas.

    isinglas <--- what the ****?

  • Moderators, Regional East Moderators Posts: 21,504 Mod ✭✭✭✭Agent Smith

    isinglas:

Derived from fish, isinglass is a gelatinous substance added to wine or mead in the rack. It collects particulate matter and settles out of solution, thus clarifying the must.

    God i love google

Although many (most?) vegetarians will have no problems eating fish.

Unlike a few years ago Buckfast is available in most dublin off-licenses nowadays, even tescos..
