Advice please

    For the past two months i've been goin to the gym 2-3 times a week.

    When I go I usually do some bicep weights and those circuit training machines.

    I would like to gain muscle but I haven't altered my diet at all.

    To make real progress do I need to do the protein supplement thing?

    tbh, i'd like to go from a pretty skinny bloke to one with a great body to put it james bluntly. Does anyone have any advice or a good link or anything?

    I'm pretty clueless when it comes to this stuff.

    You certainly do not need to use those protein supplements. I have been doing weights at home for 5 years now and I am very well toned in the abdomen, chest and arms areas.

    You simply need to start looking at the composition of foodstuffs - Those with the most protein are stuff like fish and chicken. I have been including tinned tuna in my diet for two years now and muscle has been growing quicker while eating this. I manage to get about 50 grams of protein into me every day.


    I wouldn't advise only doing weight-lifting either. You should get yourself on the treadmill. If you have never done it before I recommend starting it by doing 5 minutes on it. After the 5 minutes are up just go for as long more as you feel comfortable. If you continue this you will continually work your way up.

    whats the use in having huge upperbody with chicken legs? it jus looks stupid!

    :) I have large naturally strong legs and besides, my upper-body muscles aren't that big. they are just toned quite well. I have barely any fat there. My legs are still toned though - I used to cycle 30 kilometres everyday and am currently jogging about 30 kilometres every week.

    This guy is looking to pack on the muscle so he should be looking to eat at least 200g a day if not more.

    Protein is vital if you are trying to build muscle.

    Hey bellx if you want to put on some decent size you should ditch the circuit training for awhile and STOP with those little bicep exercises.

    I think you should be doing compound exercises like squats,deadlifts,bench press,pull-ups and military press.

    You will also have to eat big if you want to get big.

    200 is a big excessive, no? I mean, Surely most of that would be wasted but, I suppose, it would ensure that the muscles have an excellent supply of protein there. But anyway, as I said, my muscles aren't big - I'm just well toned.

    u need approx a gramme per pound of bodyweight.
    Personally i take a bit less.
    lets say, in most protein supplements in 1 scoop of powder u get approx 30 grammes of protein.
    if in ur normal diets say for example u get 60g of protein.
    lets say u weigh 200lbs
    thats 200 - 60 = 140
    140/30 = 4.6
    so u need say 5 scoops ie. 5 protein shakes a day to supplement ur diet.

    that goes for cardio days especially.

    Bellx you have to be more clear about your definition of a great body. Do you want to be slightly bigger and very toned or would you like to get big in size and worry less about having super toned abs?

    If you want to be alot bigger then you do need the amount of protein talked about above.

    Even though I own a shop selling protein powders I don't think you should get more than half your daily intake from powder, real food has its benefits too. Id say take 2-3 shakes a day max and change your diet to include more wholefood sources of protein such as chicken breasts and tuna...

    Also if you are skinny as you describe yourself a gainer powder rather than a pure protein might be good for you. It has protein, good fats and carbs in every meal which will help you as a skinny person put on more weight(wouldn't be recommended for someone who is inclined to put fat on easily).
