With the rain pelting down at Doncaster I'll be paying attention to the first race. In the first race I'll be having a small bet on Balkan Knight at 5/1. With doubts over the temprement of favourite Echo of Light and considering Balkan Knight finished ahead of 2nd Fav Econium earlier this season he gets my vote. He wouldn't want the ground getting too soft though that's way I'll be keeping my stakes low.

I'll post some more for Donny after the first race, there's one I particularly fancy if the ground is goodish, but if it goes soft I'll be avoiding.

At Sandown in the 2:35 I really fancy Holbeck Ghyll, it's not a great price but from a good draw on gound it likes it will take all the beating.

I think the trainer of SENDINTANK did a rain dance last night, and got lucky :)

I will go with you on this masterK, I'll have a look at all of the Doncaster races today, lets see if we can pick a few winners between us :)

Echo of Light looked a bit special there, will surely be seen in Group class next time out. Balkan Knight never settled on the ground and could only manage third.

The horse I really fancied today was Bay Story at 2:45, but with the ground looking very testing it has gone against him so I won't be doing him. Sendintank looks the most solid option, will love the ground and and ran very respectably at York last time out. I mentioned him on Saturday as fancy before he was declared a non-runner.

The 2.10 is a huge race, and I definately don't have the time (less than 5 minutes) to study all of them! That said, I would like to see Princess Cleo turn on the form today. It has finished superbly in it's last two races which were over class 5. Being bunked up here to class 2 today, normally I wouldn't go near this race, I can't see the favourite winning, and will being going on a VERY small e/w bet on princess cleo.

The words 'touch', 'barge' and 'pole' come to mind with the 2:10. If a gun was held to my head I have a go at Korolieva each way at around 16/1.

I have no concept of time over here and when I saw your first post about echo of light I was hoping I cold get a reply in before the race. This horse is indeed something special, you only have to look at how the form of his previous race worked out to see that he had to be backed today.

Now I wish I had a bigger each way bet on Princess Cleo :o

I just noticed it was 26s with Sporting Odds this morning

    It won today at 20/1.

    Cheers lads :)

As already stated I've sendintank in the next. The ground suits it perfectly, and it will take all the beating. Watch out for Lost Soldier Three, however Fallon has really annoyed me, as he was thrown from his horse and threw the whip at the horse. Not very professional.

Holbeck Ghyll wins at 5/2. There was some very strange betting patterns on Betfair, it went out from 9/4 to 4/1 just before the off, it must have been playing up at the start. Then in running it went to 20/1 but immediately to 1/10, you see some very strange things watching in running betting.

As for the 2:45 at Donny, I've deserted Bay Story in favour of Sendintank. Also watch out for Odiham at a big price.

Well done with Hollbeck Ghyll mate.

As for the betting on betfair, don't talk to me about it! It's madness, one minute a horse could be 1/10, then it's 4/1 for about twenty seconds. They may need to review what's going on there.

    Sendintank. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,230 ✭✭✭scojones

Sendintank wins. Superbly ridden it has to be said. Driven late, but really did show it's potential there. Back to winning ways.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,757 ✭✭✭masterK

And sendintank obliges as well. That's 3 out of the first 4 races that we've put up the winner between us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,818 ✭✭✭Bateman

Has anyone looked at Mister Flint in the 15:00? Clear market leader, only 5 running.

Backing 1/3 shots in Novice chases is a quick way to the poor house. I'm not saying it won't win, but as with all Novices they can be prone to jumping errors, these races throw up some very funny results.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,230 ✭✭✭scojones

Mister Flint should do it alright, however at 1/3 it's stuck in my system, but ignored by me outside of that. I'm not willing to put the required money on it, to get something worth while back from it. Actually make that 4/11 now. Mister Flint is bound to make a mistake sooner or later. Today could be the day.

Just noticed that Mister Flint has been flagged in sjones' system. Small bet, see what happens. Just backed at 1.38, and has now gone to 1.45, so can't even lay off, did he have a fit in the stalls or something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,818 ✭✭✭Bateman

Layed off at 1.34, not worth the hassle. Will wait for a banker. :)

There's no stalls for jumps racing. :)

Ended up backing in again at 1.26 in running, nothing worth talking about obviously, still waiting for today's ship to come in.

People like me shouldn't be betting on horse racing. :( But the boredom...

The next at Doncaster is the 3.20, and it could be anybodies to be honest. I'm going to go with Close To You, who has been given a few trips over soft ground. It performed greatly in class 5 and class 3 over soft ground, winning both of those, was exposed then to a class 1 and was very unlucky that day came a 6 of 7 being the well backed favourite. I'm willing to wipe the slate there, and trust in it to do the business today. At 15/2 I think it's a good price, and I will be going each way on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,818 ✭✭✭Bateman

Here's a second hand tip for later

Elliot's World in the 5.05 at Doncaster.

The tipster says, "looks like a two horse race, Rob Roy has been off the track for 132 days and hasn't raced on ground this soft and has it too prove today, our horse is assured to be fit and the ground should be no problem."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,305 ✭✭✭blahblah06

very good going today guys. Jonesy i will have to go against u on this. my NAP of the day is Amigoni

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,757 ✭✭✭masterK

In the 3:20 I going to be unoriginal and go for Killybegs in the hope it can improve past what looks like a very poor field for a group 2. It wouldn't take anything special to win this and Killybegs looks the one most likely to improve.

None of the horses can be ruled out in this race, and Amigoni could do it. However it's drifting in the market, whether that's because of what Fallon did in the last I'm unsure.

Ignore that, mine is drifting too

Best of luck with it mate. It will be an interesting race.

It's a dead heat at Doncaster. Can I claim that as another winner? :p

Of course you count it as a winner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,305 ✭✭✭blahblah06

LOL well done mate. do u get more then u would have got for the place or what way does it work

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,230 ✭✭✭scojones

Yeah I do mate, I get half of the odds, If it was placed I would only get 1/5 of the odds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,305 ✭✭✭blahblah06

    Thats a win so

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,757 ✭✭✭masterK

You don't actually get half the odds sjones, you get half your stake at the full odds. It means your return is slightly less than what you get for half the odds.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,230 ✭✭✭scojones

Ah is that the way it works? Ok then. So let me just straighten this up. I get half my stake @ full odds, so, do I still get the each way value of half each way odds @ 1/5 of the 8/1 price?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,305 ✭✭✭blahblah06

will someone please tell me how i get winning for backing the two horses in dony i cant work it out.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,230 ✭✭✭scojones

Well, set a price that you aim to win. Lets say you want to win 150 from the race, 8/15 is the fav, and 3/1 is the other horse right.

So to win you put 100 quid on the fav and you get 153 back,

You'd have to put 50 quid on the other horse to get 200 back. Now notice if the first fav wins, you only make 3 euro, if the second wins you make 150.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,757 ✭✭✭masterK

That's right sjones, say for example a horse dead heats at 10/1 and you have €10 euro each way on it at 1/5 the odds your bet would be treated as a €5 euro each way bet. The difference between this and half the odds for your full stake is that you only get half your stake back.

So 10 euro win at 10 at full odds half stake is a return of €55, while your full stake at half the odds would return €60.

My only two other bets for the day are at Sandown:

3:45 Very Wise - should go well on the soft ground which won't suit most of the field.

4:55 Active Asset - consistent sort who has form over distance ground etc.

Both have the ever reliable Tony Culhane on board.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,230 ✭✭✭scojones

Actually make that 50 quid, not 150. Sorry for the confusion

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,305 ✭✭✭blahblah06

odds are 3/10 and 5/2 though

I agree with Very Wise. Should do it here today.

They were 8/15 and 3/1 when I made the post. You'd have to shop around for better odds that what paddypower gave. When I made the post you could have made money from it. Very little mind you.
