Convincing Tool to play Ireland...

Hey, one and all. If you would part with 70 euro for a ticket to see Tool playing the Point/Ambassador/anywhere in this damn country, please stick yer name below...
Once there's a convincing number of posts I shall bug MCD, Aiken, and the band themselves about playing over here. Hopefully they'll see this and stick an Irish date on the next tour, or the promoter-y types will realise the cash money to be made out of us and ask them to.

Enough from me, let the madness begin!

    ****ing Yes!

    EDIT: k, i got 2nd, now i can actually post =P
i would kill to see Tool live. Lateralus....awwww.....

ive just realised that i cant actually express how much i need to see them in words. oh well....*crosses fingers*

also, im not sure how many people would pay €70 to see a band (for Tool....i would), but they may well give up anything just shy of an arm to see them. i can only imagine it is a fantastically unique experience :)

EDIT: preferably the Ambassador over the Point. but i wouldnt complain either way

    i'll pay whatever!!!

I'd fecking LOVE to see em. 70 squids is too much for any one band though, no matter WHO they are.

I'd also be afraid at the gig if I wasn't with a group because rockers at concerts very much intimidate me . . . :o

Why would they not play here?

Too little interest (well, that's what the promoters think - too little profit). Ticket prices are bad enough as it is nowadays, don't dare suggest that you'd pay more for *any* band!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 456 ✭✭Arucard

you say too little interest, yet they've played here twice before, granted one of those times was Ozzfest. but they're bigger than ever now, so.....again, *fingers crossed*

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 73 ✭✭Jimmynohands

70 wasn't ENTIRELY plucked from the air - it's more than enough to make promoters sit up and take notice.
Plus there's a lot of difference in the mind of 'yer basic punter' (ie, us), between 70 and 80 - and it also attracts the Fortysix's to post, showing the size of the "No way! But for fifty..." contigent. (",)

And Evil Monkey I never knew you were a boardsie! Fair Play.

i come for the Phantom board
i stay for the deranged rantings of Arucard

no car crashes are over too quickly!!
he's better then a car crash!!
    he's like.....some .....big ..car crash.......

add me to said list of ppl that would .... hmmm .... go on a hunger strike, cept for alcohol in all it's forms, for tool to come back

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 456 ✭✭Arucard

hunger strike, i like it. we should also make a point of promising the band all the jelly beans they can eat should they come :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,746 ✭✭✭0utshined

They've played before in the SFX so Ireland should be on the list for the next tour. €70 is a lot for a gig but I'd probably bitch and moan and pay it anyway just to see them.

I'd love to see them live! But if they do play here, i hope it's during the summer when the exams and crap are over!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 128 ✭✭sonofsam

correct me if I'm wrong, but they are not exactly active as a band at the mo (either recording or gigging) so is'nt this a bit pointless ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 581 ✭✭✭Mongo

They are recording now.And Yes I'd love to see them here

I'd love to see them, so it's got my support, but no way would I pay €70.

He Karl any chance you could link to this frem RockMetal?

Tool? i thought they were finished, you know a perfect circle and all that jazz.

No, because that would be off-topic, and posting on mutliple boards is spam...

However, what I would suggest, if you want to get the most amount of people to notice it, link this thread in your sig and encourage anyone else who wants to see Tool to do the same. Quite a few peeps have that retarded Bunny in their sigs for no reason whatsoever, so a decent cause should catch on fast enough.

I'd pay 70 if they had a great support act with them but I'd prefer to pay less and see them in a smaller venue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 901 ✭✭✭EL_Loco

Anyone see them live and enjoy it?

I saw them once, stage was very dark and the singer hid behind/beside the on stage screen the whole time. they had the videos to the songs playing on the screens so it was like watching MTV without sitting down. they stayed in time with the videos for the most part so any sense of a "live" feel was gone. no deviation from the album tracks to any great extent.

the hardcore Tool fan I went with was very dissapointed. I'm not that big a fan so I wasn't too put out. although I was peeved.

so with this petition you might want to throw in a "please don't hide on stage" clause.

I haven't seen them full stop. The first time I missed due to exams and the second because I wasn't in the country. Even if there wasn't much interaction with the crowd or improvisation I'm sure the athmosphere would more than make up for it. 2 hours of Tool surrounded by people who appreciate the music would be an excellent evening.

To be honest, i'd like to see APC in Ireland more than i'd want to see Tool. APC on most accounts seem to be a better live band

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166 ✭✭kkposse

people,people,people.......the brilliant Life of Agony will be playing December 11th in Temple Bar Music Centre but be quick as it will be sold out very fast.....if you have'nt heard of this band get the album 'river runs red' . :D

I've seen Tool 3 times before, twice here once in Philadelphia, and I'll be first in line to see 'em again. Best live band I've ever seen. It'd be cool if Mars Volta came here too.

    /Jumps on bandwagon....

    TOOL - F*CK YA

Thought they were great at Ozzfest would love to see them again.

MCDguy - "hey the internet just called.. they say they want to see tool play in the point for 70quid, make it happen!"

Arrange a decent letter writing campaign if you REALLY want to try and have an influence on (albeit it tiny) wether this will happen or not.

Event promoters look at the sales of the last gigs, what the band wants fee/demand wise, sales of their records, availablity of venues to band availability, sales trends of other gigs in the genre, amount of similar genre gigs around the time and a dozen other factors before making a call on the viability. A few printouts of an internet forum does not swing tens of thousands of euro in investment.

Odds are they will play as we were included in the last two european tours but Id bet as part of some kinda of one day festival thing again as this seems to be becoming more common especially with big name rock bands.

Also yeh...theyve not played anywhere in 2 years so arent you jumping the gun here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 257 ✭✭irokie

    i'll jump on your bandwagon!
i mean, yes! i agree with muchly muchly.

toast... don't you think that you're overthinking? maybe overanalysing? you know that that separates the body from the mind...

    :D

APC were MJK's side project, same as PLC for Danny, etc etc

APC on the other hand, are most likely finished. or at least on a long term hiatus

Three times actually. They played a festival (can't remember which one) just after Undertow came out. Saw them the last two times, absolutely amazing but €70 is a bit much. Ozzfest tickets cost about that and you got lots of other bands for the money. The SFX show was about half the price. I can't see them not playing here due to too little interest. Their albums sell in steady amounts, everytime I go into Tower the Tool section is either full or empty which I'd take as a sign of them shifting units. The SFX show sold out pretty much instantly and I'd say sales of the new album will be higher than those of Lateralus.

I'd love to see TOOL Play, hope this thread works!!! I know of at least 4 more non boardsters that would give their spleens to see them too!!!!

I'd say we'll see more of APC in the future, but i'd like them to take a few years off before making a new album, Emotive was terrible.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 456 ✭✭Arucard

well they will be taking a few years off. Tool are recording their new album, i'm assuming/hoping they'll tour to support that.
plus Billy is supposed to be doing something with a solo career, and seen as Billy is the songwriter....i'm guessin we'll see no more of them while he's doing his solo thing.
i still think eMOTIVE was only made to fulfill a record contract. and say what you will about it, Passive is a fantastic song.

mjk is not happy with virgin records' lack of promotion for apc, so he decided to go all out and make a covers album (which, bar 3 or 4 tracks, is ****e). passive is a great song, but it was originally a tapeworm song

anyway, since tool have been here 3 times including a slot during the lateralus tour, it's probably a safe-ish bet that they'll visit these shores for the new album's tour.

while we're here: anyone willing to part with salival ? :D

    I'd give anything to see them...including €70

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,894 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

nah i wouldnt pay 70euro unless it was an all day thingy like metallica.

but otherwise im in. wish i hadve seen em in the SFX.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,698 ✭✭✭garthv

Yes Yes and oh Yes please!!
Saw them at Ozzfest and it was one of the best gigs ive ever been to!
I wouldnt mind paying 70 euro to see em either but try not to make that the main selling point :)

yeah, i figured it was related to record company problems. and i know it was a Tapeworm song :p:
one of 2 songs on it which are only technically covers, the other one being Counting Bodies.....
a cover of one of their own songs. and if the band ever deserves to be hung drawn and quartered, its for that. i cant believe they did something so horrible to Pet!

    but anyway, back to Tool....
