  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 197 ✭✭kennier

    Rte

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

    Music or commentary?

I'll have to figure out how to use the radio again, haven't listened to it in about 15 years. :p

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

There should be an online stream :p

    Behold! http://www.rte.ie/radio1/musiccloseup/

Online stream is good, coz i'm preoccupied having a beer and eating chicken in front of my PC at the moment, can't be arsed moving.

I wonder what possessed those intellectuals in RTE to air a program about strats though........

Chicken, beer and a show about strats. What a quality night in :p

    Christ, I'd love a beer now :(

Ha - and the missus is out! :p

Eh, i clicked on that "Leadbelly" link but i'm listening to some news about the "Kilrush Circuit Court"......?

Edit: em, just ignore me....i figured it out.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    Nice.

It's not like RTE to have interesting programs on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

I know....it's the equivalent of watching that program "Hands" on RTE. Ever see it? :p

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Hands? Probably before my time. Never watch live TV any more anyway.

It's still running, afaik. Just as well you haven't seen it, it's total crap. They mostly show octagenarians from obscure Irish villages weaving baskets or making wheels for the horse carts or something like that. "Hands". :p

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Ah, what ever happened to the almost decent music shows on RTE? Like the Beat Box on a Sunday morning? And that one on a Monday that did Irish bands? Ah, back in the day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

You mean the one where the bands played in a church? That was pretty good at times, yeah.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Yeah, the church one but there was one a couple of years before that I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

Yeah i know which one you mean, but the name escapes me.
There were some decent bands on there, but more often than not it hurts me to see moany bitches playing nice fenders! :p

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Yup. Why isn't there an Irish Jools Holland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

You may want to smack me for this, but:

    Who he? :o

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

It helps when I spell his name right

    http://www.joolsholland.com/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

Ah, so many musicians to listen to, so little time.

Can't say i ever heard of him (dunno how i managed that :p ), but i'll have to check him out. Cheers for the link!

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

He has or had a show on BBC2 for years. Used to do a New Years special too. Had loads of bands on too. Even Metallica...

That's probably coz i haven't listened to / watched BBC in years.
I get my news from Doc :p

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

So you don't know about the monkeys taking over the world then?

    :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

The bastard never told me that! I think he chooses the information he gives me carefully, coz he wants to brainwash me and rob my guitar!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,702 ✭✭✭bounty_hunter

This is completely unrelated to RTE or Strats, but how in **** have you never heard of Jools Holland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

    Coz i'm Ancient1 !! :D

I really don't know how....and i live in Dublin and not in a cave! :p

    I know I would.

Bounty_hunter, since when have Instruments threads actually stayed on topic?

BTW, the show is about to start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

I'll tune in now and check it out.

Been listening to the Brutality radio station (www.xwarp.net) via live365.com and the last song was called "Butt Mud" by "Morsgatt". Ugh. Talk about obscure fcukin gore bands....

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

They better play some Rory Gallagher or I'll not be a happy bunny!

    Touché, salesman.

Ancient1, he's a ****ing legend! Where have you been? Evidently you have much more exciting things to do than watch TV on New Year's Eve.

Nice. A Wayne's World clip. Pre CBS strat? Yes!

Um....apart from having spent 11 years in Iran, i usually spend New Year's under the table or in the gutter. :p

Are you guys listening to the show? Not bad...

    Edit: you are.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Did he just say "Sex with strings"? Seriously? Ya know, growing up learning to play, I never wanted a strat really. Admittedly my first guitar was an Epiphone Strat but I've never really gased after one. Until recently...

aaaaaaaah, did you hear that? "Piece of sculpture"!

    See?

Everything i've been telling you guys is true! It's the gospel! :D

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    Weeee, a Malmsteen interview! Score.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

    Excellent :D

And they're actually talking about positions 2 & 4. Nice. How many non-guitar players understand it though?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

Yeah, the difficulty of wedging the switch on 2 and 4 on a 3-way switch....there was a name for that, but i can't remember...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

C'mon SRV!! They have to play some SRV!

Fey - do you want the last piece of chicken? :p

*teleports chicken & bottle of beer*

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    C'mon Rory FTW!

    Yeah, I'll take it :D

Ah, you know Rory. You know SRV. You know Chicken and Beer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

Are you tuned in, bounty hunter?

It's better than i expected actually...

Trivia: speaking of chicken and beer, John Lee Hooker has one of the best album titles of all time, it's called "Free Beer and Chicken" (1974) - excellent stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,702 ✭✭✭bounty_hunter

    Well that's true.

    Go team!

    That's some nice topic trivia Ancient1 :D

This is really cool actually. Malmsteen is still a **** though :p

Oh no, why did he say that? He said scallops make you play faster. THEY DON'T!!! FEYLYA SMASH!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

    Turn on the radio man.

Fey - who's this chick talking now...missed that bit.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    Bounty_hunter's a chick btw ;)

    Eh, Fair Verona singer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,702 ✭✭✭bounty_hunter

    Yeah, praise me.

    I'll do it now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

Turn on the radio woman. ;)

I thought i heard Malmsteen say that...did he? But he refutes that in so many interviews.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

No, it wasn't Malmsteen. It was some other bloke talking about Malmsteen's Sig guitar. Liked the chat about Gallagher's strat :D
