    brilliant ad!
    ya catch my drift?

I think I mentioned that on some other ad thread.
There's a new forum now - advertising/marketing in the Biz section. Might be worth getting more ad discussions there :)

That Heinz ad was brilliant. I think they had a whole range of ads pushing that theme.

Try UK Nova, old ad Bit Torrents come and go on there.

I wish someone would put some Irish stuff up on there too. That would be cool!

Ah yes, that reminds me of the first "super Glue" ad on tv in the 70s.
Had some bloke stretching some rubber yoke like out of a gym. He then cuts it with the 70s stanley knife of course. Reglues the rubber thing and carries on with the exercise. Add I think a 70s green nylon tracksuit and your sorted.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 522 ✭✭✭JungleBunny

That one vaguely rings a bell. Thought it was for Fruit Pastilles...? Same thing I guess. Was it a cartoon ad?

Was the ketchup add the one with Matt LeBlanc? (Joey from Friends)

    Yep, Rowntree's fruit gums.
I wouldnt say a wee lad though, he was in his teens definatly.
The fruit bat was a puppet in the background ?

Oh, oh, oh anyone remember the "cool for cats" milk ad !!

The only ad I can think of right now is the Softmints ad with Mr.Soft.
    Weird one.

I'm pretty sure that's the one with Matt LeBlanc in it.

What was the ad where they said "tasty, tasty, tasty...they're very tasty" That tune just popped into my head.

Or remember the ad for Muchies. Some woman going on about the taste of them at a dressing table and goes "And somebody decided to call them Munchies!" Hated that ad.

yeah, it was brought up in another thread which got it stuck in my head which led to googling which led to http://www.markmcm2002.verysmooth.co.uk/ads_g-l2.html

it was better in my memories though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,954 ✭✭✭✭Larianne

Branflakes!! Wouldnt have remembered that!! Mad how a tune can stick in your head like that.

I remember that Cooool for catz ad and Kevin the bat or kevin and his bat. Strange ads they were.

Kiora ads... "We all adore Kiora!"

I know they still sometimes use it, (god its years old) que crappy music...."Don't forget the pancakes on Jif Lemon day" :D

Or the Cornflakes ad that was promoting the film Willow. And the sledge crashed into the kitchen ceiling. Was to collect cards of some sort.

The old Monster Munch ads with the different characters in a spooky wood?

Um Bongo ads were funny back in the day too "Um Bongo, they drink it in the Congo"

The Wine Gums one with the Scottish guy in the house "Who let the juice loose abooot this hoooose" -- wasn't there a talking moose head in it?

What were the sweets with the different lyrics for "I'm too sexy..." ? There was a grandmother in the ad or something!

The old Chewits ads with the green dinosaur/dragon eating planes and tanks, and wasn't satisfied until they gave him chewits :)

Didn't some stop-motion skeleton guy used to advertise blank tapes or something like that?

All the MB boardgame ads -- Operation, Screwball Scramble, Buckaroo, Game of Life ("You can be a winner at the game of life!")

Ah yes, that was for Scotch video tapes IIRC.

"Rerecord, not fade away... Re-record not fade away..." and so on.

Which in return reminds me of Ariston adverts:

Ariston, and on, and on, and on.

    Actually its:

The Red Car and the Blue Car had a race
All Red wants to do is stuff his face
    He eats everything he sees
    From trucks to prickly trees
But smart old Blue he chose the Milky Way
He's looking for a tasty treat, fluffy and light
'Cos he knows it won't spoil his appetite

Oh no, the bridge has gone
    Old Red can't carry on
But smart old Blue he chose the Milky Way

    Then there was the:

The Sattelite and the meteor had a race etc.

Same idea, another milky way ad

Those Tango ads, with the orange faced dude who had a high pitched voice and said something like " it's not wee willy winkle" or something mad!

The Lemsip ads with the spud-like policeman in the rain.

I always thought it was funny when you were watching a film that you taped off the tv years ago and all the old adverts that were on back then.Half the time I'd stop just for the sake of it. Even the different graphics for the channels.

I always tried to edit out the breaks when taping films.
Regret it now when I rewatch films/programmes I recorded off TV in the late 1980s.

    The best of Irish ?

    Kimberly, Mikado and Coconut Creams,

    Beany and Barney.

The safe cross code with Judge the Dog.

Little boy going to get his frisbee half way up an ESB pylon. (more of a public service announcement.) Often died just before Popeye was on before the Angelus.

Sally O Brien and the way she might look at ya.

Sam Spudz. Cartoon ad if I remember right.

The ESB ad where a guy has to get up in the middle of the night coz his child is crying and the song playing over it is "OOoonnly yoooouu..can da make the darkneessss bright..". We just remember it as kids coz the guy looked like a relation of ours.

Or there was the Bord Na Mona ad where the Dad brings home the son from college/the big smoke and the mother's there waiting for him. for the fire on. Oh no... was that for Telecom Eireann? Ah I dunno..

Was there some programme that used to show these old ads and take the p*ss outta them. Like on The End or Blizzard Of Odd??
