Transformers movie

Well, i've seen from .imdb that the Transformers movie is definitely a go...(which is why this is in the FILM forum) but, on the off chance that we'll ever see a TF movie, let's discuss it. Who should be in it, character-wise? what kind of cars/planes should they be? Set in the '80's, the '00's or beyond? should they use the cartoon's voices or get big-name actors? Who could replace Chris Latta (RIP) as Starscream? How should they handle the size-changing? What happens to Prime's trailer? Would you include an "origin" similar to Dreamwave's "War Within" series?

Here's my €0.02. I've always had a problem with the forms of a coule fo the Autobots. If they transform to hide, what's the deal with Mirage? I'm pretty sure that a Formula 1 race car driving down the street would attract a hell of a lot of attention. I think the moviemakers would have to handle Mirage a bit differently. The same problem applies to Bluestreak and Prowl. I'd like to see them as the same kind of car, but there aren't many sports cars commonly used as police vehicles. I think the Autobots should be a little more inconspicuous than race cars, although they do look damn cool.

As far as OP's trailer goes, I think the Transformers should rely more heavily on holograms. They mentioned it in the old cartoon, when they would make holographic drivers, but I think holograms could be used to hide things like the Autobot/Decepticon symbols when in vehicle mode, seams between metal panels, and they could also be used to make Optimus's trailer. Make his transformation such that his legs fold up, and need a holographic covering to hide them. It would really help explain where the trailer goes when he transforms...

Transformers was the best cartoon on tv for at least 4 years back in the day, is this gonna be a sequel to the other transformers movie, unlikely i know, but cool if it was!!!

From the limited footage and the words flying around it looks like its set on Earth... probably before the original movie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,477 ✭✭✭weemcd

seen an rx8 transformer on a website, and now in the argos cataloge so i presume that the autobots will be sponsored by nissan, toyota etc

sure to take away from the film with the loss of the original characters.

I wouldn't be too concerned about Prime's trailer. He can just drive around without one. It's not like 'Teletram 2' ever did very much anyway.

the bigger problems I see are actually with the Decepticons.

How does Megatron shrink down to the size of a gun?

What sort of crazy-ass gigantic tape recorder is Soundwave going to turn into? And what's the bloody point anyway? Is he going to just play Justin Timberlake loudly to defeat the Autobots?

I'll really only be happy if they stick with the original Transformers from the 80's though... as I really don't like the current cartoons at all, although the guy doing the voice of Starscream does a pretty good job.

i've read a few bits and pieces on this around a couple of boards on the net: so far, Megatron and Soundwave will not transform down to smaller objects, i.e guns and tape recorders.

It'll be a slow burn movie, you won't actually see a transformer until 45mins - 1hr into the film, and there are only going to be about 5-6 robots on each side.

theres something about the humans having posession of the matrix, and something about some TFs wandering around in pre-historic times

    so there ya go.....

yeah I really hated that autobot who transformed into an aqua isolation-tank! :D

speaking of TFs, IDW are launching a new Generation 1 comic in October to replace the Dreamwave series that went bust, there'll be an issue 0 in october and then issue 1 in january.

    Ah very good...

So which Transformers would everyone like to see in it?

It would be great to see the Constructicons.... Devestator would look amazing.

Megatron, Soundwave and Starscream are a given... I've always been a fan of Shockwave though, I loved the way he'd never bother his arse transforming... but I doubt we'll see him.

Picking some decent Autobots is a bit harder.... as alot of them are pretty dull. Rachet wasn't a bad character, the idea of a transformer doctor was always a good one. I guess they'd also have to go with Jazz, but I always found him to be pretty annoying. The Dinobots are great, and I'd say they might definitely go for some of them if there are going to be sections set in prehistoric times.

Omega Supreme was another interesting Autobot character. But his transformation might be a bit too elaborate.

Jetfire is a good one, and the fact that he and Starscream used to be friends is an interesting storyline.

They had a WHAT, that brings a tear to my eye... a tear of mirth, and i thought a radio was the limit. The pretzel cart autobot from bandwith theater springs to mind

It think he was playing on the fact that you refered to them as 'New Age' robots.

Perhaps there is a tripple changer one that turns into a windchime and a dreamcatcher.

Oh thank God... for whatever reason i believed him completely.

If its only 5 or 6 on each side it'll be the old faithfuls like Megatron, Optimus, Starscream and someone for Optimus to boss about... Hot Rod perhaps, and then theres the hangers on and/or the comedy effect.

As far as I know Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee and Soundwave are all definates.

As far as I know the guy who did the voice of Prime will not be involved, which sucks...

they are looking to create an arc which will span several movies

how to i do make a *spoiler* tag?

Bumblebee? id prefer Kup or a lot of of others, but he has had a lot of coverage with the newer tv series

[.spoiler] spoiler goes here after you remove the full stops within the tag [./spoiler]

Use the 'preview post' button to check before posting if you're not fully sure

The film will be released in the Us on the 4th July 2007.

He'd always say stuff like that in the series. It was one of his catch phrases.

In the movie he uses "Soundwave superior, Constructicons inferior" when they are all arguing over who should be the new leader.

never really liked arcee, i always got the feeling that she was just put in to get girls interested in it

+ why would robots need 2 sex's? surely they are asexual?

Wednesday, July 13, 2005: Hasbro's site has just issued a firm-sounding release date of the new Transformers Movie. They write:

TRANSFORMERS WILL BE MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE AT THEATRES NATIONWIDE ON 07-04-07
The live-action “Transformers” movie has been set to open nationwide on 07-04-07, it was jointly announced today by DreamWorks Pictures, Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS), and Paramount Pictures.

The feature, based on the globally popular Transformers franchise, will be directed by Michael Bay (upcoming “The Island,” “Armageddon”) from a screenplay being written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (upcoming “The Island”). Steven Spielberg (“War of the Worlds”) is executive producing the film, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura (upcoming “Four Brothers”), Tom DeSanto (“X-Men” and “X2: X-Men United”) and Don Murphy (“The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”) serving as co-executive producers.

In making the announcement, DreamWorks head of distribution Jim Tharp stated, “Under the direction of Michael Bay, and with Steven Spielberg executive producing, we know that ‘Transformers’ is going to be the kind of explosive action movie that is perfect for the height of the summer movie season. By staking our claim on the 4th of July, 2007, we ensure that we not only have the time to make this movie the way it should be made, but also to build excitement and awareness leading up to its release.”

“Fans around the world have wanted a Transformers live-action movie for a long time and we are thrilled to work with DreamWorks and Paramount to bring this legendary saga to life on the big screen,” said Brian Goldner, President of Hasbro’s U.S. Toy segment. “With some of the entertainment industry’s best talent on board for this film, fans will experience Transformers in a way that is incredibly powerful.”

DreamWorks will distribute the film domestically, while Paramount will handle the international release. Hasbro will work with the production team and DreamWorks on all aspects of the film’s creative development, marketing and promotions, and will manage merchandising in conjunction with the release of the film.

This week, DreamWorks is launching the official “Transformers” movie website (www.transformers.com) at Comic-Con International, being held from July 13 – 17 in San Diego, California. “Transformers” will also be making its presence known in a big way, with a huge 18-wheeler truck sporting the instantly recognizable Transformers logo dominating the area around the DreamWorks booth—and much of the convention floor—letting thousands of fans know that “Transformers” is coming to the big screen on 07-04-07.

It's not great... it's a bunch of waffle about the Beagle probe to Mars and how we were told it crashed, but that wasn't the truth. Then it shows the little rover deploying on a pretty unrealistic looking Marsian landscape and then a robot looking almost exactly like the one in the car adverts runs quickly into view and stomps on it... the end.

    They really shouldn't have bothered.

You do understand the concept of a teaser trailer, right? :o

Its just, it seems to me like you were expecting a cinematic trailer... and well, with the actual film being over a year away, that just isnt likely to happen.

I thought it was rather cool, it looks like the actual robots will be done with some semblance of style, rather than horrid cgi, which can only be a good thing.

Other than that, I reserve judgement till I see the actual film.

Yes I do... Jurassic Park had a great teaser out long, long before the film was released. South Park had a great one too... again very simple but very effective.

They can be simple, but the idea has to be good and they have to look good... this is neither.
