    Tokai1.jpg

    OMG it is a BOCKS!
    A bocks full of snow?

No, that can't be, there must be something else inside...

    Lets see!

    Tokai2.jpg

    Huh?
    Another bocks!?

Is this one of those tedious chinese doll games?

Oh well, I'm bored, I might aswell play.

    Tokai3.jpg

    OMG!
There is a guitar in the bocks!?

    What is it?
It looks like a PAUL REED SMITH! :D

    No, it's a TOKAI!
    A PR50T SDB at that!

    Tokai4.jpg

    Wow, doesn't that look swish?

    Yes it does!
    It looks very swish indeed.

How would you like to meet the rest of the family, Mr. Tokai?

    Tokaiandfriends.jpg

    OMG TEH KOLLEKSHUN!!?!!??!!

And that my friends, is the tedious and innevitable story of how my new guitar came to be.

Unfortunately, my camera sucks harder than a Taiwanese ladyboy, so here's some pics the seller so you'll get a better idea of what it looks like:

    Tokai5.jpg
    Tokai6.jpg

Beautiful, isn't it? Those are real abalone inlays, and a Wilkinson trem! Flamed maple top and everything. It's not really an identical copy to the PRS guitars, the heel is a lot more comfortable, and the body is an alder back and maple cap, whereas the PRS have mahogany backs. It feels excellent altogether. It's fairly out of tune right now, so I haven't really had a chance to hear what it sounds like just yet. She literally arrived in the door, and I whipped out the camera and took some really annoying pictures.

    Nice couch though, eh? ;)

And an awesome post too! Listen up n00bs - from now on all threads involving new gear will have to involve the same amount of skill and suspense. :p

I was looking at the box pics first and thought it was the Stealth, so i scrolled down really slowly. :p

HOLY CRAP! I've just bothered to tune her up there and give her a good old playtest, and my god! I'm utterly shocked at how good she sounds! The pickups sound really nice altogether. Doubt I'll need to swap these out at all. :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Well, it's supposedly a "See-Through Dark Blue" but yeah, there's definetly a hint of green in there. Lovely colour altogether though.

You do realise that despite my ****ty camera being not so great with the old colours, that both the Tokai and Ibanez are shades of blue? Is that not colourful enough for you? Would you rather I got a cherry sunburst guitar, or maybe an electric pink Jackson?

I have cream and silver hardware too.

Yeah the contrast and brightness are down a bit here. I can see the blue now.

That's the most 'metal' selection of guitars I've seen in ages.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

or maybe an electric pink Jackson?

I was gonna post this pic ages ago but I lost my digi camera for the moment so I took this with my camera phone. Was gonna post it that time you showed a pic of your mesa amp and you were talkin about your sheets and natural wooden floor being similar to someone elses...... Well I have a natural wooden floor but check out my bed :D

The guitar looks great Karl. Had a chance to play it yet? As soon as I find my camera I'll put up some proper pics in the pics thread. Think a lot more people here will now be considering a tokai. They are seriously high quality guitars at a fraction of the price

Of course I have. What do you think I've been doing since it arrived? It's been on my lap half the day so far already.

I'd definetly agree, they are indeed very good guitars altogether, reguardless of the cost.
    I'd recommend them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 648 ✭✭✭Neo#

OMG! look at that price. I would seriously consider buying from them next time. What were they like to deal with? How much did the delivery cost?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

I bought it off a fellow on ebay, I can link you to him if you want. Shipping was only 9 eurons.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭LundiMardi

who are 'they', where dya get it Karl?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭LundiMardi

sweet!!! soooooo tempting! That shipping cost is incredible!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 648 ✭✭✭Neo#

Damn! for some reason I thought you were buying it off that Japanese crown Ishibashi. Has anyone bought from them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,433 ✭✭✭Quattroste

Neo, Several people on the Tokai forum have bought from Ishibashi and I have not heard anything bad from them. In fact only good. I would consider it myself, only I am a dumbass and paid silly money for one of my Tokais in MusicianInc! The other I got on ebay!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,552 ✭✭✭Steoob

any chance you could put up a recording ken?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

Man, i was just looking at the high-res pics from that ebay dude, and that is just gorgeous. Excellent buy, KH.
Well done, and curse you. Curse you for giving me another bout of intense GAS. I've been GAS-free for about 17 hours and here it comes again. Gaaaaah!

    DO IT!

    You know you want to!

I'll tell you something though, I'm still getting used to this damned Wilkinson trem. Not exactly sure exactly how level it's supposed to be against the body or what not, so I've been adjusting it to see the best way for it to hold it's tuning and get rid of any fret buzz, so if anyone here has a Wilkinson any tips that'd be a great help. Thanks.

    Don't tempt me!

I could be wrong, but it looks like a 2 mount trem to me - if that's the case, it's very similar to a strat trem. Is it a 2 point?

Edit: Talk to ya later KH.
    a) they're kicking me out of the office, it's closing time.
    b) i have to go and see if that Paul Gilbert fella knows how to play.

I think so, but never mind, I've got it sorted now. I just started adjusting the trem posts and that's worked a treat. I think I've got this fellow figured out now. Seems to be nicely enough in tune now, and no more fret buzz.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

If the bridge is sitting properly, i wouldn't mess with the posts. Just tighten the claws/screws inside to get the bridge to sit nicely on the body. If you're changing strings (or putting on a higher gauge), just stick a bunch of coasters between the trem and body to prevent it from slipping and it'll stay in place.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Ah well, I've already done it.

    :D

I like this guitar muchly! I've been trying to learn Opeth's "The Leper Affinity" there, not to much effect, but damn, it's a really nice guitar to play on. I wouldn't say it's as good a guitar as the genuine PRS guitars, but compared to the PRS SE series, it smashes ass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

Really? Because I can play The Leper Affinity and anyone who's ever heard me play will tell you I suck. Great song though once you've got it down.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Yeah, well I love playing, but I'm just a terrible guitarist. :)
