So myself and a friend are joining a gym soon, and I just have a few questions I would like to ask so I know what I should be doing to achieve what I what to.
    Some basic info:

    Height: 6`2"

Weight: 142lbs (could prolly do with gaining some eh?)

Body fat %: wouldn't know for sure, but I am happy where it is, definitly have muscle definition. Will have this tested in the gym I guess to get a solid figure.

Reason for joining gym: Well, mainly it is to increase my sporting preformance, I play gaelic football and just want more from my body during games. Really want to work on my legs mostly, for good calf and quad muscle.

As a side, aesthetically speaking I guess I would like to build up forearms and biceps because I would like strength in my arms, but filling out my arms/shoulders a bit more is what I really want. Also, like the look of strong calfs.

So, now that you know the why, lets move onto the how!

I figure squats for quads and Calf rasies etc for calfs but how should I be doing them? Should it be high rep on low weights, low reps on high weights, fast reps on low weights? I heard this results in different muscle (explosive and endurance) but can't really understand what I need/want (I guess I want explosive for the calf/quads, more on endurance later). So what should I be doing to build up good footballing muscles?

Also, I figure 30minutes on thread and 30 on a bike should help general endurance? (is that too much, too little etc.. I dunno?)

General training would be twice a week with a match on the weekend, would be going to gym 2-3 times a week.

Sorry for the long post. I did a lot of reading today and some reading previously and built up the questions I think I need answering.

    Any advice?

6 2 and 142lbs, im not sure but i reckon you're about 3 stone underweight at a minimum and you could easily carry 220

Just always been skinny, no matter how I eat (although never really tried to gain weight).

Hardly 3 stone underweight though, really? Thats almost 1/3 of my body weight . With a BMI of 18.something I know I am on the verge, but Surely by no more than 2 stones max?

your grand. different body composition to myself in a very different way :D

m8 of mine is 6'1" or 6'2" and is about 11 stone so he is pretty skinny too.
dude in the gym that did my my original program put him on some fairly intense cardio and free weights. he is toughening up to say the least.

I know this isnt what your talking about but just like i will never be 142 lbs you will never be 220 lbs (hopefully) so work with what you have. you seem skinny so getting your fitness level up (along with your height/size benefit) should give you a good boost on the pitch.

Get assessment done in the gym to obtain proper instruction and yes you are massively underweight however if you are between 16 -20yrs old this is ok as your body is maturing and you will put on weight as you eat right. First and formost get one to one instruction from a good trainer in and eat right - lots of posts before on optimal nutrition

    Yeah, I am 18, 19 in Jan.
Quite surprised to hear that I am *massively*({edit} when you say massively, how much do you think I should be aiming for?) underweight though.
Will definitly get talking to some guys in the gym and get a trainer to help me.

Was this a joke? Ie, stop posting on a forum and start looking after my nutrition? Maybe I misread?

    Thanks for the advice.
