Anyone doing the run in phoinex park this saturday as part of the warm up series for the marathon?

Will be running it with a client who is turning 50 years young- aiming for roughly 1hr 20mins

Looking forward to a great day out and with all the athletics on tv over the past week its been inspirational

Oh well off to the gym to combat the weight loss from all this running - hit the weights and then a good lunch!!

    Am indeed.
Going along on the day to sign up. I think it is at the school in Castleknock. Will use as a yardstick before contemplating marathon.

I did the five mile last month and had planned to do this one too but just haven't had the time to train. I might make the half marathon though and use that to gauge whether I have enough time to train for the marathon.

    Info: http://www.adidasdublinmarathon.ie/race_series.php
Map to Castleknock College for registration: http://www.adidasdublinmarathon.ie/img/map_castleknock.jpg

The Upper Glen Road (4 & 9 mile mark) is a long hill. Don't kill yourself the first time up it. The main road (Chesterfield Ave) is a slight downhill.

I'm all nervous because the most I've done before was 10k.

The 37 and 38 stop in Castleknock village and you could walk down to the college from there ?

Doing the run myself. Training been curtailed slighly by work etc but keeping quite close to my plan.

It will be my first ten mile race and feeling quite anxious myself bout it.

So what time would people be expecting to run it in?

BTW, best of luck to everyone who is doing it!!!! :)

i've been running/training since around the start of June.

i try to add 2km a week to my runs...usually do 1 big run a week and 3/4 smaller ones

As dathi1 suggested, the 37 and 38 go through Castleknock village (though I think that some 38 buses don't, but that might be a weekday/rushhour thing).

Get off the bus in the village at the Church of Ireland church (Saint Brigid's church in the attached map). Go up College Road.
At the 'R' in College Road there is a back entrance to the college. Go down that driveway and after 50 metres turn left onto the open area and diagnonally across to the college.
I'm sure it'll be obvious where the goody back pickup point is.

The longer route is to continue along College Road to the "Access" road as shown in the map.

i've been running/training since around the start of June.

but you must have had a pretty decent level of fitness before june? surely you couldnt have gone from unfit - 10 mile run in 2 months?

after 2 months running myself (i started from ZERO fitness) i was running about 4k....throw in niggling injuries etc.

had some level of fitness but not much..basically walked/ran 3-4 times a week the distance i set myself...eg 1st week tried to walk/run 3km on the long days and 1-2km on the short days...and added around 2km every week or two to the long days..and 1-2km for the short days...it all builds up..and before ya know it its around 10 miles (16km).i'm not running at any fantastic pace (around6 min kms/9min miles)...but i reckon its better to finish at a slow pace than only be able to run half way around at a fast pace and have to walk to rest of the way

The Run Injury Free site recommends taking short walk breaks!

I'm reading Runner's World Complete Book of Running that I got in a local Library. It recommends finishing at a faster pace than when your start - they call it "reverse split" (i.e. split/mile times improve).
It recommends starting off slow, getting a comfortable rhythm, getting relaxed and conserving energy for the latter part of the run.

I'm nervous about the run, having only done 10k distances before but I'm confident that I'll 'raise my game' on the day. You can't help but get some motivation from others around you - unlike when you're training, you'll be amongst hundreds of fellow runners, many of whom will also be nervous.

I use others as pace makers (I assume that they know what they are doing). If they are going too fast I find someone else and vice versa.

I have been running since start of June also but i had a reasonable fitness level. I would hope to be finished under 90mins myself on Saturday. As mentioned earlier niggling injuries can hamper preparation a lot. Its a good idea when training to pick a day of the week to do your long run if your schedule includes one. I would usually do a long run on an early Saturday evening and then maybe 4 shorter ones over the course of the week.

There is a website i use which has loads of useful forums and an online log for you to record your runs. Its mainly Americans that use it but if you ask them for advice they are very good.
