Just wondering what foods would be good for snacking on but low in calories. For sitting at the work desk or in the cinema etc...

Anyone else tried apple crisps? Had them for the first time a few days ago. Just pieces of dried apple cut to look like crinkle-cut crisps. Damn tasty.

Anyway, nuts and seeds are great for snacking (take it from a self-confessed crisp addict and chocoholic trying to kick the habit) as they fill you up just enough. Some nuts are a bit high in calories, e.g. brazil nuts and walnuts but plain peanuts, pistachios and sunflower seeds are all quite low.

ehh.. peanuts are the enemy??? you can't eat them??!!
for snacks it would really have to be fruit, or even better, some raw vegetables, cause fruit are full of their own natural sugars too!! - find someone who has a weight watchers book, they are great for pointing out what's good to snack on or not, just stay away from peanuts, bread and cheese... they are the enemy!

Nuts (no salt), some seeds are nice, dried fruit, regular fruit ;) All tasty and healthy.

Anything without an ingrediants list !!...in fact sticking to that premise is a pretty good overall philosophy.

Anyone know how Banana Yoghurt Chips hit you?

I eat them instead of chocolate.

    How healthy/unhealthy are they?

How do they compare to chocolate?

These are the crunchy banana chips covered in dry yoghurt.

Now that i think of it almonds are very good at keeping hunger away. Take a handful or so with a piece of fruit and a big glass of water for a satisfying and very healthy snack

Fruit - try to stay away from fruit with high sugar contents like grapes, bananas arent great they have alot of sugar but they are better than allot of other stuff. Pears and apples I find are good, but its worth it to eat something small with that. If your near a fridge, I usually have a slice or three of turkey. (high in Protein, low in fat)

Nuts - are ok just get them unsalted, try to go for Redskin penuts, I think they are lower in carbs, they are high in Complex carbs.

What I snack on alot is rice cakes. High in Complex carbs but thats really all. I get two rice cakes and butter one with honey and stick the two together for a honey rice snack. It tasted delicious and its really good for you. Apart from the complex carbs (which will wlowley release energy into your body) the honey is natural glucose so that will give you a fairly instant boost.

If Im feeling very hungry I would get a packet of Turkey and maybe some nuts.

Rice cakes are one of the highest on the GI!!!!!!!!!!!

They are rocket fuel, joejoem. If they are working so well for you are you in exactly the shape you want to be in? They are digested faster than white bread and then add honey to them - oh i shuder!

Overall nuts are filling due to two factors - good fats and fibre that are contained in them. I would generally aviod peanuts NOT because their calorie content --

WEIGHT WATCHERS HAVE MANY ASPECTS OF THEIR PROGRAM WRONG - one is their view on fats, nuts and seeds in general are packed with essential fats just don't eat the whole pack!

---- but because peanuts are more prone to fungal growth and are highly allergenic.

My snack foods - fruit with almonds, homemade flapjacks, home made juices (with at least half the juice coming from vegetables).

Sorry I should have elaborated, this would be a snack either before the gymor at my 11am break. Im getting close to my goal, my abbs are visable but not as visable as I want, there is still 1 or 2 lbs of fat there I would say that I would like to shake. That will come with more cardio though I would think? Then the results thereafter are just toning and bulking.

Personally, I love snacking on nuts esp. hazelnuts and cashews. Also like dry roasted peanuts, chocolate peanuts, chocolate hazels etc. Obviously, the healthiest nust are the ones that are unsalted and don't have chocolate eg plain hazelnuts.

Nuts are generally very high in (good) fat, have a bit of protein, have minerals, fibre etc. Becasue of the fat, the calorie content is very high. 100 g of shelled hazelnuts contains roughly the same amount of calories as a Big Mac. This suits me I use them to boost my calorie intake.

Rice cakes, ryvita-type biscuits (low-fat) - these might be a llittle too crunchy for the cinema though! Well, its' quite unmannerly to eat in the cinema anyhow. You're there to watch a film and not stuff your face.

Other than that stick to raw vegetables and fruit.

My flapjack recipe! No way it was passed down from my great grandmother

LOL - there have been a few posted already and i make them for clients who also think they are great - super special ones with 70% dark coco chips, amazing!

try raw carrots/peppers with houmus. Dried mango, apricots etc. Nuts are good but watch the quantities - once you start eating them kind of hard to stop! Also for the cinema you could do worse than popcorn, best if you make it yourself and add a minimum of salt but it's fat-free and low in calories.
