P45rant.net Vs Boards.ie

As a regular reader of both boards I was wondering which you found to be the best.

Boards.ie is an excellent resource if you want a mass opinion on something, on the downside there is too many under 18's in the place and some of the choice for Mods leaves alot to be desired. On the upside its huge with something (maybe too much) for everyone.

P45Rant.net is a much more mature board with some great off the wall posters and topics but on the downside it has nowhere near the same amount of members and if you need a mass opinion on something it could take a few days. On the upside the Mods take a much more relaxed stance.

There are a few smaller boards out there such as the entertainment.ie forum etc, please specify what board you mean if you choose "other"

I like P45's relaxed calm atmosphere tbh, I feel like I've walked into an air conditioned living room in the height of summer whenever I go there.

You know we don't allow free advertising on boards.ie don't you?

Didnt mean it to be an advertisement, I was just curious ;)

Ah yes. Under 18's: The lesser folk. Since they can never contribute anything worthwhile.

Hopefully boards.ie won't go the way of some other boards (like KryptonSite) that don't allow the mention of, never mind a link to, other competing message boards.

Never even bothered looking at p45rant. Why would I?

Completely agreed. The one thing that turns me off this site is the egotistical and bullying attitude of some of the mods on this site. Sadly the admins always ignore my concerns.

    Pick good mods please!

I think we're just raw from being spammed so often in the past.

Don't agree with this at all. I've never had trouble from a mod.

One annoying thing I find about boards is people seem to take your opinion much more seriously if you have a huge post count. Though can't really blame the site for that

Yeah i dont like some of the mods, and i dont like some of the users. Still havent got in any trouble though. I dont really like the way if someone critisizes the running of boards.ie there several people to make smart comments and be generally insulted by it. That said i dont really care either.

Alpha505's cunning plan has worked a treat, I just spent 10 mins on the Politics forum however could'nt read much what with the tumbleweeds blowin' past. 26 ppl on line as I type, here its 616!

Some may say 'quality over quantity' but I think boards has both. You just need to be able to filter the sewage.

    Mike.

lf that's the case why not post under your real nick seeing as you have been here so long. A low post nick with such a comment comes across as thinly veiled spam.

    calm down.

ive been a reader as a guest on both boards for along time. i might post a similar poll on p45 if it makes ya feel its fairer.

    Never heard of P45rant before.

Another one I use occasionally is askaboutmoney.com, very useful for financial queries.

while ive never had trouble with mods i have noticed some of them being as zane said, egotistical bullies. I think some people get a little too much of a power trip out of having that 'ban' button on thier screen

there's so much more diversity on Boards imho. I can flick between poker advise, Trinity college thread, and even check out the rantings of the prisoners and the only thing i have to provide is the popcorn. might check out p45 though...

So it's only an honest view point if you agree with it? Interesting. I'll subscribe to your news-letter when I find my blinkers.

Or else its an honest viewpoint because its an honest viewpoint. It is an honest viewpoint right, whether he agrees with it or not?

I notice he didn't quote anything that he disagreed with and say: 'now thats honesty!'

He could have said: 'I agree with this statement and believe it to be correct'.

Imo, the way he phrased it tacitly implied disagreement with some of the negative statements.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,225 ✭✭✭Scruff

might go there if boards goes tits up again. better than invading boards usa again. other than that i think if i was a member of more than 1 board i'd quite possibly be fired for not doing any work at all.

What negative statements were said about p45rant?

    Dear ColHol,

An awful lot of this may tend more twoards positive feedback for Boards than negative for p45. However, i feel my point is valid. OP did not address any of the above statements. He did not acknowledge them as 'honest', rather he called the one he agreed with 'honest'.

Let me clarify my point for you: I don't have a problem with his sentiment, rather with the implied notion that it was honest because it echoed his sentiment.

That being said, he didn't imply they were dishonest either. All a matter of perspective. This is my opinion.

    kthnxbye.

There really is some terrible mods on boards.ie alrite, but I imagine it's hard with so many forums to get good mods for each one...

You posted the poll on boards.ie, what did you expect the outcome would be? More people voting for p45? Go post the same on p45 and then ask the 50 odd people that vote for p45 if they have even tried boards.ie. It's a nice alternative.

I have to agree.. some very excentric posters here,
often arguing points with no base..
The mods need to chill out too.

p45 is much more mature and relaxed..

I'll be smoking cigars in Barbados by then ;)

I think the grown ups around here should have an alternative and at least give it a fair look.

I find that both forums have their merits but Boards needs to give a serious kick up the arse to 2 or 3 Mods in particular.
