Well the dreaded ''dumb-ass exams'' start tommorrow so who's repeating what, who's going to fail what and how did your exam go are the questions that shall be asked.

Well the last 2 exams of my UCD and college tenure are starting on Saturday 13th (1st Sociology 1) and Tuesday (1st Sociology 2) and after them it's failure and a year working in a supermarket. (thanks Sociology department  )

I have nine starting on thursday. Not that I failed that many this summer, but they're making me retake them all if i want to get into 4th year.

so my list is, digital systems, operating systems, graphics, formal syntax, foundations of computing, networks, ai, object oriented design, and maths. They also only told me I had to resit nine exams a week and half ago. up till then i thought i only had two.

its been a dreadful week and a half anyway...

14:30 on Tuesday. Thats my only exam, but it won't be easy. Bah!

At least I live a 30 second walk from the Blackrock exam place! Move out to Bray on Wednesday, what timing! ;):D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,894 ✭✭✭Chinafoot

4 papers in the one subject like Kittenkiller.

Thursday, Saturday, Tuesday and then Friday. Unfotunately i have work in bewteen all those dates so I havent a chance to get out to Blackrick and see where the kip is.

Anyone know what way you go when you get off the dart at Blackrock station?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,433 ✭✭✭kittenkiller

There'll probably be loadsa people heading that way with you so don't worry.

Head up towards the shopping centres.
As you're facing the Frascati centre (the one with McDonalds), walk to the left until the 2nd turn up to the right (1st one's a small mainly residential road).

You'll pass by a pub (the name keeps changing), keep walking, straight through the crossroads where there's a shop on the opposite corner, & the enterance nearest the exam centre is just a few yards up from there on the right side of the road.

Lol... just realised through a random perusal of SIS Student Web that I have a repeat exam timetable and exam card... and was supposed to start yesterday... hehe. Admin suck.
What's even funnier is that I'm still registered (according to them) as 3rd science honours... so if I actually cared about maths physics they probably would have let me into 4th year...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,483 ✭✭✭Töpher

    Seriously?

    I start in 2.5 hours. I finish ~1 hour thereafter! ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

yep... I actually never would have noticed this if I hadn't been just randomly looking on SIS Student Web this morning.
Apparently I have 7 exams... lol.
    My LJ post about it...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,483 ✭✭✭Töpher

This is where not sending stuff in the post gets us!

    What ya gonna do?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

Firstly, I need to go shout at admin anyway. (I'm changing course within science, I'm going back to 2nd year doing computer science and these dumb mofo's still have me down as going into 4th year maths physics for some reason). I'll do that in a few minutes.
I've no plans of doing these exams. I didn't do my exams in May, and I had no intention of doing them in August (obviously the exams office have other ideas...lol). So when I get bored of spamming up boards, I'm off to shout at office monkeys.

oh crap, i didn't know we had a different exam number! *starts panicing* i don't think i will have time to get to a printer to print the card out before my next exam...

what am i going to do??? aaaaahhhh.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 801 ✭✭✭Vainglory

Just take down the number off the screen and bring your student card, that'll do fine. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,391 ✭✭✭arbeitsscheuer

Yeah a mate of mine forgot both her student card and exam card today.
She went in about twenty minutes beforehand and had no problems.
She has an even more cavalier attitude to exams than I, but then again I actually want to pass whereas she really couldn't give a toss! :D

Cheers to JHJ for the chupa chups, they were great for the ole nerves this afternoon! :)

Had 1st Politics exam of 4.
Civic, Republican and Contractarian Thought, and International Relations Theory.

It went ok, I guess. But more importantly, I got a lolly.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,433 ✭✭✭kittenkiller

    2nd of 4 in 2 hours.
Am more prepared than the last 3 times i sat this paper.
    Go me!

Still though, i'm printing off notes i should've studied weeks ago (or years ago whatever way you see it).

    I want a lolly!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 801 ✭✭✭Vainglory

Oi, I *definitely* gave you a lolly!

Can anyone please recommend me somewhere in the library that doesn't have D4's chatting to each other about Rogby, people listening to metal music and the sound of someone drilling holes in the wall? I've ended up sitting in 4 different locations and I cannot avoid noise of some sort and I'm losing my pateince really really badly.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 631 ✭✭✭daram

The first floor at the front of the library (with the big windows looking over the lake). I'm there now cause there's network points for the laptop. Music and d4s dont seems to bother me here. But the drilling is pretty much everywhere.

Except maybe the fifth floor. But you have to out of the library and use the lifts to get to it. I studied there before the summer and it was good, but im not sure its open now.

also....what bus do you get from town to blackrock? no poxy darts on saturday!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,016 ✭✭✭Blush_01

The 7 or the 45. Both stop outside Frascati. The 7 is more regular and goes to O'Connell St. via Pearse, but doesn't stop on Westmoreland St, so if you get it get off at the top of Nassau St (maybe that street has a different name, it's near Clare St and the National Gallery, I'm dumb like that) or on Pearse Street before the Trinity Hotel that's your best bet if you don't want to have to battle the crowds that'll be on O'Connell Bridge. 45 goes to Corn Exchange Place, which is right between The White Horse (an early house, woohoo!) and the Department of Immigration. The Department of Health and Children will be behind you (on Poolbeg St.) and Screen is behind it, so you'll come out opposite Doyles if you take a left, then right, then left when you get off the bus.

    Best of luck!

How can it be that bad?

HOW CAN IT BE THAT BAD?!?!?

Listen "mr.niceguy" (if that is your real name), I got 18% in the Summer.
    18. PER. CENT.
It really "can" be that bad.
    Nay, it is that bad.

Jesus. I'm not one of those (f**king incredibly throat-slittingly annoying) people who say after an exam - "oh my gawd, like, I totally failed that, I'm just like, sooooo peeved wit myself" - and then get a 1st when the results come out.

    Jesus. F**king. Christ.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,391 ✭✭✭arbeitsscheuer

I'm pretty sure it's too late for that, my next one is on Monday so...

Thanks for the advice tho kittenkiller, I appreciate it.

Ah 2nd year. I liked it so much, I did it twice! :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,433 ✭✭✭kittenkiller

    ME TOO!

Um... when's your next one after monday?
Any phone numbers for people in your class who could be able to help you out tomorrow?
It aint over til the fat lady sings (&i'm not out drinking til wednesday, so you have til then!).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,391 ✭✭✭arbeitsscheuer

The one after monday is my last. Tis on Friday.
    3 Courses, 1 Q each, 3 hour exam.
Democratic Theory; Power, Discourse and Political Action; and British Politics.

I don't know ppl from my classes. They smell.
No, seriously, I'm very shy and stuff, I never got to know most of the ppl in my courses. Actually, I do know one or two, but I dunno if I could get a hold of em before the exam.

Anyway, I'm sure I'd be fine in those exams if I could just drag myself away from Boards! But it's irrelevant, the extent of my failure in Paper2 makes passing overall nigh-on impossible (that and my lack of coursework).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,124 ✭✭✭Jonny Arson

How would I sum up today's paper in a few words?

    Degrading, diabolical, cheating, demoralising, disgraceful.....

I would like to say a MASSIVE thank you to Professor Howard Davis, Professor Stephen Mennell and Dr. Kieran Allen for screwing me and my fellow Sociology students left, right and centre today resulting in the destruction of my dreams and aspirations of achieving a degree.

Can anyone here give me an explination of how a paper can suddenly increase in difficulty by 3 to 4 times over a few months?

I dunno but here is my theory.

In UCD we have a department called the Sociology department who take great pleasure in screwing bright young students because they are arrogant, cold %&*£heads. It states on their website that they take 500-600 students during 1st year and that this whittles down to between 250 and 300 in 2nd year. God I wonder why that could be? Is it because this 250 students pass their exam in 1st time round which leads to the case of ''f**k the other retards''? Yes I very much think so.

Simply I have failed. I have one more paper but I needed to do well in today's paper if I was to pass overall. I'm sure I would have done o.k. if I got a fair paper like the May one and had not got one that screamed ''f**k off, we don't want you here'' at me like today's one.

So unfair because I got 2:1's in my other 2 subjects but obviously since I can't pass an impossible Sociology paper I'm totally not good enough for my other 2 subjects.

This college stinks simple as that.

Can anyone advise me on the 1st step to complaining about today's disgraceful paper? Who do I complain to and what procedures shall be taken? I know it won't make a difference but noise has to be made in order to stop this happening again to any other students.

    *******RANT OVER*******

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,391 ✭✭✭arbeitsscheuer

I'd just like to say what Zane said, only substituting the words "Politics", "Finbarr Lane", and "2nd year", for where he said "Sociology", "Professor Howard Davis, Professor Stephen Mennell and Dr. Kieran Allen", and "1st year".

I could never put the utter disappointment and vengeful rage I feel into words as well as the Zanemeister. So I must steal his ire.

    F**kin' hell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,604 ✭✭✭blondie83

That brings me back to "LSA", "a certain irritatingly clever lecturer who googles himself and hence cannot be named", and "3rd year". I know the feeling, the shock you get when you look at the 1st page, the further disbelief when you turn the page and realise that it wasn't just question 1, and who can forget the incredible anger welling up when you raise your head in disbelief and notice your lecturer standing up at the top of the row laughing at all the horrified faces in front of him. I'm really sorry you got such rough exams lads, I know you must feel awful, low, depressed and without a hope - but I ended up getting 30%, so there is hope for everyone. Just keep the chins up and the beers coming! :)

These two dinosaurs have destroyed my education...............

    mennell_01a.jpg
    Stephen Mennell

    allen_12a.jpg
    Kieran Allen

if any of you come across these men please do......... well lets say nasty things to them.

Is this common practice around this college that examiners can do whatever the f**k they like with students futures and ambitions? I have absolutely NOTHING now because of them. I can't possibly keep my chin up knowing that the next year of my life has been thrown down the drain by them and not by my lack of ability.

Any student deserves the right to a fair exam, we got a ''f*ck you'' exam from them. It took me one glance at the paper to realise that these paracites had screwed us. Are they allowed do this? Have they be doing this for many a year? It's a f**king disgrace. These idiots in charge of student's educations need to be named and shamed as their ego's are f**king up people's futures here. I'm sure I'm not the only who's college tenure was f**ked yesterday. From what I saw at least half of the 150 or so students had left before I left with a half hour to go. I will do whatever I have to do to get these a$$holes named and shamed. They cannot do this. I hope they rot in hell.

Seb or anyone else, if you felt you were screwed in your exam, make some noise to the examinations office or whoever is meant to oversee the amature exams process in this college.

Well as I said I have NOTHING now because of them.

    F**k forever.

I would also urge you to delete/edit your above post as I fear it could get you into alot of trouble seeing as it would not be difficult to find out the name behind your handle.

    Agreed.

Also, I should point out that I partially shot myself in the foot, calculating on what "should" come up, rather than giving myself a contigency plan in the event of less-common stuff coming up.

I'm the first to admit that, if I'd actually studied solidly for the last 3 months, I would've at least passed. But I tried to wing it, and got shot down. My bad.
