    Hi
Never owned a boat and the most I have done is a cruise ont he Shannon 2 or 3 times and I am thinking of buying something dead cheap, mainly for lake use, but need advice

What is the cheapest i could get started for?
    What is a RIB?
What is the advantage/disadvantage of inflatables?
    Outboard motor sizes and prices?
Prop lengths on motor if using for lake use.....

All info would be greatly appreciated.... Have took a quick look at http://www.apolloduck.ie/ and just dont have a clue what to be looking at really

As a starter boat, this would be nice..

But you haven't specified if you want to sleep on the boat.. If so, let me know, and also a rough limit on your price..

Exactly the kind of thing I had in mind
Sleeping isnt something i would be bothered with on a first one, but would be nice to have a covered area. Pricewise........ LOL.......the cheaper the better!!

I suppose what I am wondering really is, how much can that type of boat you just showed be bought for? Is that an average price? Can it be bought for 1 or 2k??? Just very green in the whole boat area but interested

You'd easily be able to get a boat for one or 2k, but the engine might be dodgy.
Boats are getting cheaper all the time so people are buying new ones more.
Maybe you could buy an old boat and a new engine.
30hp would be enough if it's just cruising your after, even smaller if the boat is light enough and your not mad on speed.

And a rib is the inflatable type speed boat. Like this one: http://www.sc-langeland.dk/images/Billedbank/RIB%2005.jpg

They're very light, and fast. And they're safer than most in rough weather.
But they're not really a cruising type boat.

    Hi !

You could try doing an introduction to Powerboating / Motorboat course with a School such as ourselves before deciding what type of boat to go for.

I have an article I wrote a year or so back on boats for beginners...I'll see if I can dig it out from the archives on our own website.

Contact us off line at any time for free advice !

    Kind regards,

    Stuart

    Thanks Stuart
Might be something I'll give a try alright
Looking more at a small boat/rib or something like that, but would also have an interest in larger boats at some stage

    Wez,

Is that a river boat or a sea boat..... or both?

Do boats tend to be one or the other?

    Thanks,
