Any form of fitness, and exercise, will do you good. If you're not seeing any results, then it's due to one of two things (a) you're not working hard enough in the gym or (b) your diet has reverted back to bad habits and is negating your gym workout.

Curves is aimed at people with very low levels of fitness and high body fat as far as I know. It depends on your own level if it will do anything or not. But you can't change the resistence or time which I wouldn't really like.

    How exactly does Curves work?

10 machines, 3 mins on each

Good to see someone doing something about their obesity anyway..well done.
Other fat people should take a leaf out of your book.

3 mins on 10 machines? Are we talking cross-trainers, treadmills, steppers and so on, or does it also include some weight-training?

    Hi DawnMc,

I sense it is time for my weekly rant..... :D That siad I hate Curves. It is very simply a program designed to take your monyey and nothing more. The Curves system works on the basis of a ten station, machine based resistance training ciruit. The problem with this is you can not alter the reistance. You lift the same weight every time, thus you do not get continuing gains. The only way then to develop using those machines is to go faster, to fit more reps into your 3 minutes. This often reulsts in poor technique and injury.

It is an ineffective and unethical system, that only produces elements in the very short term...that said anything that gets people into exercise is, I suppose tolerable.

    On the other hand you should be proud of what you have acomplished with Weight Watchers, an excellent program though not ideal, that does get results. If you really want to improve your fitness levels, you can do a couple of things;

    1. Join a gym with or studio with adjustable weights and aerobic equipment that does not resemble a people processing factory...

    2. Consult a personal trainer and have a program prescribed to you.

    3. Try online training, its a personal program and instruction without the presence of the instructor.

    4. Buy a selcetion of home fitness equipment, can range from anything from €12.00 - €3,000.00+ depending on what you want and or need.

    5. Read up on bodyweight based exercise either here on boards in your local library or you can contact me for a few good recomendations. Ask lots of questions.

As a final warning don't buy into gimmicks like those god damn ab belts (for reasons check my Slendertone posts here at boards). At the end of the day results require imput. That said it doesn't have to be hard or painful or boring. The hardest part for most is diet (which is also for many is the most important), if you've succeded with weight watchers that shouldn't be a problem.

If you have any questions you can contact me directly at info@borufitness.com and that goes for everybody else too.

    Hope this helps,

    Boru.

OK, having read how the Curves system works, it's pretty clear to me that it's not going to offer you any improvement, simply because it's not going to push you enough.

As you learn a technique and get adept at it, you need to add more resistance or weight in order to improve and gain. If Curves don't allow you to change the settings then you're not going to gain.

A change of gym might be the best idea. Curves probably suits people starting out on exercise, and gets them into the groove, but after that, you're going to need more challenge.

Must correct u there - it's not three mins on each machine - it's 30 seconds on each machine with a jogging platform in between each station. I deifinitely think it's better than a gym as I get far more done.

Not really. You think you are getting more done. Quantity Vs Quality

Not at all. It's quality over quantity. 30 seconds with jogging splits sounds like a huge waste of time. I'd join a proper gym, and get a proper workout going. PM me if you want more advice, I am based in Cork,
