Your place in the family..

I am the eldest of four and I sometimes wonder if I would have turned out differently if I'd been in the middle, or was the youngest..
Anyone else feel the same way, or have any opinion about your place in your family?

Eldest of two, bitter about the way in which my younger sibling just slides easily into the standards I've already created and bypasses all the lectures and punishments I received.

I feel very much the same way bounty_hunter! I was the eldest of 4, and I very much paved the way..
The younger siblings had it easier, and turned out to be me more well-adjusted adults. Coz I rebelled around the age of 12 and made my parents cop on and gave them tips on how to be a good parent!!

Eldest of five. Was a pretty poor role model for the others as none of them copped on to the fact that I did all my misbehaving out of sight of my parents so only ended up in a fraction of the sh*t that they found themselves in. Of course they could all just be incredibly thick...

Eldest son in my family was and is spoilt rotten, and today he is the typical "can do nothing for himself boy". He lives at home - he's 25 - and will probably - like my father - live in the house forever.
He seems to expect as if it's written in stone(I'm not sure myself, and I don't really care) - in the family tradition - that he will inherit the house.

Ok, he works every day, never is off sick, and works hard, long hours, but at the end of the day it's a given that his dinner will be ready for him, all his laundry is done for him etc. etc.

He dates a lot of women, even though he isn't really that into some of them. I wonder will he find the 1950's type potential wife that would suit him - in this day and age..? Hmmm.... I suspect that he won't in the forseeable future at least - and the blame lies squarely with my mother!

I did an online test that asked you things about your personality and then said what place you came in the familiy. It correctly said that I was the youngest child. So I guess I am a reasonably typical youngest child.

Eldest of two and the only son. Only a two year displacement between us so no real preferential treatment for anybody, thankfully other than we always got the same pocket money so my sister got more than I did at her age, et cetera...

Sorry Mossie, I did not mean to imply that I was generalising. Just stating my own experience. :)

I also have another brother who is 2 years younger than that brother, and they are "chalk and cheese". They were raised by the same parents...

The point of my post, from my own point of view at least, is that your place in the family - eldest, youngest, eldest girl, eldest boy can in my experience, going by my own family, and other families that I know, have a profound influence on the child and the teenager and the adult that they become..

Middle of two and a half sisters.

My youngest sister is a raving lunatic that I have little time for, my half-sisters been missing for half a decade.

Little time for any of my family, to be honest, except for my father and sister.

Middle of three, only girl. It sucks, because when my Mom's away, I get "Mom said you have to make the dinner/do the ironing/clean the kitchen, for I don't know how."

    So...much...rage...

    Youngest of 7.
    That's SEVEN.

Spoilt/Ignored in equal measure. I am a disappointment (cos all the rest set a pretty high standard IMO).

    Sucks, doesn't it? ;)
What pisses me off most is that the younger sibling is an unpleasant little bastard and it's passed off as "normal adolescent behaviour", whereas with me it would have been cause for a good slapping.

tell them to **** off or confront your mother. confrontation would sort it out

Youngest of 4. Being the youngest is the worst, the older ones try to have a say in everything I do like what career to choose, school to go to. Its gone to the stage where I don't tell them anyhting I'm doing like exams results because good or bad they'll have an opinion.
