It's mostly a matter of personal choice as such, but the system songs were sung a capella quite a bit. At least around me they were.

I'm just gettin reminiscent and thinkin, does anyone else remember Chris the RA's song from, what 3/4 years ago? And Dermot's adaptation of Christy Moore "I said goodbye to the canteen orange juice, to the mouldy rolls and bread, to the seven thirty wake up call, and Sean seeing red......"
    Anyone???
Cos if there was to be an all-time CTYI cd, rather than just a yearly compilation, those songs would have to be on it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,198 ✭✭✭✭Crash

Dermo's song was classic - myself and Andrea (Drama and Archaelogy TA) were reminiscing about that last week :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 372 ✭✭Outcast

I remember too. Does anyone have all the words for that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,858 ✭✭✭Undergod

The lyrics to Dermo's adaptation of Delerium Tremens were on the CTYIzens newsletter from session one '02. I'll post em up soon as I find em.

"...I dreamt I was in a jaccuzi, along with Feargal Close, that was when I knew I'd had a CTYI overdose..."

    Classic.

    Classic.

I thought "I dreamt I kicked a cat into a cold norwegian fjord, but then it swam back up again in the arms of a French Bird" was brilliant.

    Happy Days

    Opeth - the Leper Affinity

    /me remembers

10 minutes of solid moshing and head-banging...I was hoping we'd get that again.

And in answer to Flashling, everything on RefulgentGnomon's list is played at every disco and about half of them have been played at every disco for at least three years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,217 ✭✭✭Matthewthebig

too right. That song should be instated as a last disco neccessity

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 76 ✭✭Shoeless Ailbhe

I have that cd actually, just a metter of finding it, and the small obstacle of me being in Singapore at the moment... but I'll be home Friday so can get it then.... It was a classic song. I'd completely forgotten about Rory and the norweigan fjord! How funny was that!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 30 Purple Hayes

Yes al we do have it... i decided to put mozz thru the torture of my own ctyi compilation on the way home from dcu... she was spontaneously bursting into tears every five minutes!

Btw, this be orla on mozz's. Ah familial connections!

And do you remember the table quiz with the spot prize for the best story about rory and the cat? Me and kermit made a kick-ass story including fishnets and frolicking in the moonlight... those cadbury's roses were a worthy prize!

yeah Podge, i dunno, it was you whose S&M I saw - or at least you were carrying it!.. Those were indeed the days...

I think I have the sesh 2, '02 Disc around the place somewhere, that'd have the lyrics on it, if i was arsed to transcribe them. Though remembering what a ledgend song it was, I may well do it!.. Poor cat...

"...It's goodbye to the canteen orange juice, and the mouldy loaves of bread, the 7:30 wakeup calls, and the RAs seeing red..."

And Feargal seeing red? Sesh2 might be different though.

    I got it!
    DELERIUM TREMENS CTYi

    Verse 1:
    I dreamt a dream the other night, I couldn't sleep a wink
The lights were out at half past ten and the lamp was in the sink.
There were footsteps in the courtyard, and RA's on the stairs,
With pebbles on the window, and evil Rory glares.
I looked out from under the blanket and up at my roommate,
that was when I felt the urge to go and masticate.
And suddenly I realised my roommate was quite mad,
When he started leaning over me and stroknig at his... notepad...

    CHORUS:
Goodbye to the canteen orange, to the mouldy rolls and bread,
To the 7.30 wake-up call and Feargal seeing red.
As I sat looking up at the instructor, I could never figure out
Why the hell I chose the course and what yer wan was on about.

    Verse 2:
I dreamt of a blond American inside the closet door,
Caught in a compromising position upon the bathroom floor.
I dreamt of a cool as s**t kid, with women by the score,
And space cadets and wannabe Goths and geniuses galore.
I dreamt Eoin Campbell was arrested for crimes against fashion,
White hair, green shirt, blue jeans, red shoes and bandanas that were clashin',
I dreamt I kicked a cat into a cold Norwegian fjord,
And then it swam back up again in the arms of a French bird...

    Verse 3:
I was in ecstasy in boardgames, and the RA gave me hell
I was wearing the face off me girlfriend, and her best mate aswell,
Our group was on minus points in the scorin competition,
So our RA sent us out on a hot'n'heavy mission.
We sprayed on 483 cans of Lynx and headed for the women,
But they were having none of it and we had to wash it off in swimmin'
I dreamt of Adam Buckeridge and Willia Bartely too,
The things that we got up to, but I'm not gonna tell you,
Then I dreamt I was in a jacuzzi, along with Feargal Close, ,
And then I realised I'd had a CTYI overdose...

As it appears in the CTYIzens newsletter from sesh1 '02, with all ellipses reduced to three points.

Were you session 1 last year when they played jet plane in the quad? It was so sad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 367 ✭✭Shiney

they played it in the quad on the last night after the disco in session 2 last year and so many people burst into tears. it was heart breaking

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 372 ✭✭Outcast

Our quad time was such a let down. Willim and Connor played elctric guitar for a while (electric on the last night? not natural). Then a group sang Hallelujah and then the RA's did their Hallelujah and that was it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 110 ✭✭the_only_Ali

In fairness, it was freezing cold and pretty wet, if the weather had been better I'd say it would have been different. And anyway, Hallelujah's always great for those occasions. Go James Gough and his amazing rendition of the jeff buckley version.
Holly, since you were the one who started this, do you have/remember the words for the Writing for Life CTYI/YMCA song? Now THAT was funny... and terrible, all at once. Then again, it was written very early in the morning while we were sitting in a sink.
Oh, the song Ellie sang at the talent show, Autumn Leaves- use the Eva Cassidy version if you're making a CTYI CD, Ellie sounds scarily like her.
