I find Suspended Animation by Fantomas good for drowning out background noise when I'm on the Luas, so it's on my iPod.
That and it's a class album too!

Aye, but I think we've now reached the point where you're answering the question 'What albums should be on YOUR iPod and not EVERY iPod'...There's a subtle but distinct difference...:D

Nothing wrong with your choices, I'm sure, but while they possibly should on YOUR iPod should you be a metal-head, they're possibly not the ideal choice for the casual Ipod-er who wants bits of everything...

(Edit - yes, i know Nevermind isn't strictly 'metal')...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,082 ✭✭✭Tobias Greeshman

    - Radiohead - OK Computer (It didn't win best album of all time for nothing :D)
    - Damien Rice - O

Dear god the smiths should not be allowed on any IPOD let alone near any CD player, dead god awful!!

We're just voicing an opinion at the end of the day, In MY opinion oasis wouldn't be within 40 feet of my ipod. there's no right or wrong answer. BTW im not a big "Metal Head" i would also add most of the U2 albums and Chillis albums

I was trying to get at the idea that perhaps suggestions should be one album per genre (and christ knows, I'm gonna regret this), in other words if you can only have ONE metal album on your iPod what would it be. Ditto ONE dance album etc etc etc.

Thus I don't consider Discovery by Daft Punk to be in my list of top ten albums of all time, but I do consider it top of my list of dance albums....

    ;) Ah don't I know what you mean't.

The only problem with threads like these are it's all opinion.
How does that saying go? One man's poison is another man's rolling stone..... or whatever it is!! (Might've mixed me metaphors there!!) ;)

Personally the way I'd look at this thread would be.. "The albums I am surprised that aren't aren't on everybody's Ipods"

And if that was the case it's be the likes of.....

    Radiohead - The Bends
    Leftfield - Leftism
The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
    Nirvana - Nevermind
Pink Floyd - DSOTM (Although it's not really my cup of tea, I'd still be surprised if you didn't have it)
    Beatles (Take your pick really!)
    The King
Oasis - What's the Story Morning Glory
    Air - Moon Safari
Michael Jackson (Again, take your pick)
    Coldplay - Parachutes
David Gray - White Ladder (Biggest selling album in Ireland - EVER!!)
Guns N Roses - Appetite for Destruction
    GreenDay - American Idiot
    Madonna - Immaculate Collection
    Killers - Hot Fuss
    Massive Attack - Blue Lines

That's all I can think of for now. And they are not necessarily recommendations as that's not really what the thread is about (unless I read it wrong?) But to me, if I was to go through someones Ipod and didn't see a lot of the ones above I'd be surprised.

Oh - and for the record, if we're only allowed one Now album, I'll plump for Now 10, cos it has Fairy Tale of New York, My Baby Just Cares for Me and Crockets Theme...

    :D

(Now 8 is good as well, mind...)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,618 ✭✭✭Civilian_Target

I'd have to plump for The Beatles - Abbey Road and Eric Clapton - Unplugged.
And of course, everyone needs a cheesetastic copy of Europe - Final Countdown!

Everything else can be put down to a matter of taste - much as I enjoy listening to Iron Maiden, System of a Down, Nightwish... its not exactly common taste.
