Does anyone where to buy the cheapest Les Paul online? (Standard and Supreme) as I am getting 1 soon.

Ebay, Chrisguitars, Thomann, guitarbargains - ie check the shops on the Instrument Resources sticky

I wouldn't bother with the supreme. They supposedly don't have that classic LP sound. Take a look at the custom shop reissues - ie 57 gold top.

Check out Heritage guitars. Seriously. A lot more guitar (made in USA) for a fair bit less.

I'd highly recommend the Standard and ebay as a great place to get them. Chris's guitars also excellent. Just take your time and do your research...

    http://www.heritageguitar.com/

These guitars are made by exGibson luthiers who were liad off when Gibson changed factory in order to use more machines in their building process. They use better parts than Gibsons - eg real mother of pearl inlays. They're 90% hand made. They have consistent, excellent QC.

Or better yet just get an Eggle (just keep it under your hat cos not too many people know about them :) )

Unless they've ever looked at any of your posts about PRS ;)

Although, I did enjoy the Emerald green one I played in Belfast with the ebony board. Shame it was so ****ing filthy though. Eww

Did you notice Zoton disappeared since he got his? ;)

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

I was wondering where he'd disappeared off to... What one did he get?

I tried an Eggle recently. My only problems were aesthetical. I found it hideous. I wasn't a fan of the ebony fingerboard either. If you're into the whole PRS scene then they seem like a quality buy though.

A Berlin Custom IIRC, green quilted maple top... twas yummy. I had added his name to the GAS Raid list.

Excellent. Plan "Let's go steal all the good gear from the Boards.ie Instruments posters as soon as we're all together" is coming together.

If you look hard enough you can also find some nice independent luthiers who'll build you a nice hand made guitar. Personally I'd love a Shroeder guitar.

Here's some pics I stole from his website.

Does that PRS cost as much as a PRS PRS? ;)

I had a big thing for Eggle guitars about 12 years ago - but could never afford one of the damn things. Discovered a second hand one in one of the shops in town about 6 months ago - it was very funny - my eyes must have been so wide - that the guy came flying over to me seeing if I wanted to try it out - but although I could easily afford it now - I couldn't justify it since I don't play enough no more :(

But having said that I'm happy with my old Gordon Smith :) wouldn't be too pushed in playing anything else (electric) at this point.

    D.

It's about the same price but it's a lot nicer, IMO of course.

Looks like a wenge neck, other than that, it's just a PRS wannabe... meh. If I was going to pay that much I'd get the real thing.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

You could get a custom built for about €1500 if you find the right luthier.

TBH, I didn't even think about them. But yeah, they'd do it for ya!

Meh, I'd prefer something hand made to my specs with nicer features than a PRS of a similar price myself.

Fender make the real "real thing" but G&L are nicer (I know the G&L history...). Sometimes the original is out done.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

True, but Fender was outdone by Fender, if you know what I mean :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,635 CMod ✭✭✭✭Ravelleman

Indeed. That was the first that came to mind though.

Ahh it all comes down to preference really. I can appreciante the custom build thing, but then again, the reason popular guitars are popular is because they got the design right. Who wouldn't want a 56 Strat or a 59 Les Paul despite the innovations and improvements of the last 50 years? If I were to get a custom guitar, it'd have to be something radical that I couldn't achieve by customising something stock (Karl Hungus' lovely Stealth for example). I wouldn't get a guy to build a slighly modified PRS design (or any other design for that matter) for two or three grand. When it comes down to spending a grand though, I'd play it safe and stick to the classics (relativley speaking) :D

I'd like to make it clear that I play guitar while I'm on the toilet. You do not want to steal my gear. Especially not the amp!

    Oh yeah baby! :D

Seriously though, I would disagree with you there. I'd love to get this, but for that kind of money, I could get a 7 string with piezo built by LGM and have much better wood used. 3K for a basswood guitar!?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Basswood? I thought it was alder :o

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Bahhhhh sig models don't count as stock, they're just somebody popular's custom (yet widely available) guitar :p

you just can't beat a good LP with a burst finish, or ebony of course.

Just pure sex, the only thing that could beat those in pure sexyness is would be an array of PRS

    My God!!

    But that's just my opinion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

nah this is the one and only LP

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭LundiMardi

i've taken a shine to that finish actually, but there's no way i'd take that over and ebony or sunburst. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

i ****in hate sunburst guitars and i'd take a black beauty anyday but not that hot on ebony either really..

some sunbursts aren't great, but some are gorgeous. I'm talking Gibson here as well, i'm not a huge fan of the strat sunbursts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

not a fan of any sunbirsts tbh altho i remember feylya shwin me one i liked a while back,,,anyway lp sunbursts are the best for defo...strats just don't look right with one

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭LundiMardi

that's why i have a black strat:D, besides, sunburst cost more:eek: hairy japanese bastards!

mmmm, i'm not mad about that one, but i sure as hell would love one, i think my epiphone feels great to play, i can only imagine what a gibson would be like!!!! Unfortunately, amp is priority, maybe i'll get an LP next year or something, but i will get one sooner or later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

i'd like a flying v tbh but its hard to be taken seriously unless your playng metal imo...your an engl convert too int ya

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭LundiMardi

yeah, although i'm still thinking of a fender twin or vox ac30, head and cab may be a bitch to haul around the place, but then again the fender and vox ain't exactly paperweights, but they are a cheaper option also.

I'd actually love a flying V faded, i was very close to getting the parts for one off eBay and sticking it together myself, but chose to keep my money, i need all i can get.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

money is a whore never have enough...played a vox ac30 last night really liked it but its not brutal enough for me...my flextone i have is unbelievable weight

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭LundiMardi

yeah i'm gearing towards the fender rather than the Vox, i shall make my decision soon though, will probably order around the middle of next month when my CC is less maxed out:D in fact i may even have to wait till around the middle of sept:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

CUT IT UP...i got into the habit of savin instead of CCin and its great altogether

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭LundiMardi

all my savings go into paying off credit card:( if i didn't have a cc i wouldn't have ANYTHING!

But i see where you're coming from, it's a really bitch, i'd rather pay off my credit union loan and get another one to get all the gear i need and just pay back 20 or so a week, that would be my ideal situation at the moment.
