A case? It's not even worth a bottle. And bottles only cost €1!

I use the ME-50 as 3 stomp pedals these days tbh.

Ha, thanks for the heads up fey! :p

I know you're right though - that piece of sh1t is driving me crazy and you can't even get over 20 snots for it on ebay.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

TBH, give it to a kid starting out. Not the best pedal in the world but it's a cheap introduction to effects.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

"Here you go, son. I'd like you to have this. I've have been playing for over 14 years and haven't figured out how to use multi-fx boxes, but i'm sure you'll enjoy it."
    :p

So not only does the kid get the pedal for free, there goes my self-esteem and dignity too! :D

Bah, just don't have the patience.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

But you should know by now. Old folk can't understand technology :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

    :D

Hey, i'm not old folk! I'm just vintage. Like Doc.

No wait, he's what you call nicely aged, one notch after vintage.

    (He's gonna kill me.)

I'm sure i'd be more enthusiastic about playing around with multi-fx if i had something decent, you know, but the zoom just takes the fun out it for me. The handful of regular pedals do me just fine for the moment, and anyways, since i got the HRDx i don't feel like spoiling the tone.

Sure you are. Just keep telling yourself that.

The ME-50 is a nice box actually. Just a load of simple twisty knobs. Three buttons and an expression pedal. Simple simple.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

    No really, i'm young!
Just a load of simple twisty knobs. Three buttons and an expression pedal.

Therein lies the problem. Because just three buttons (and a load of twisty knobs) already means 6 trillion combinations.

Was watching a demo video of the GT-8....it sounded awesome but i'll need a degree in astrophysics to work it!

Edit: sorry, speedway, didnt mean to hijack your thread with my tech woes!

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

The GT-8 is tempting. I was talking to the Doc about how to connect it to the amp

    Guitar -> GT-8 -> Amp -> GT-8 -> Amp

    Nice.

On the ME-50, one switch is Distortion, one is modulation (Chorus, Flange, Whatever) and the other is delay. Simple!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

    Why twice?

    Lunatic.

I hear the GT-8 is not really different from the 6, apart from the booster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 565 ✭✭✭Speedway

thats ok ancient, lol well i dont play gigs, im not in a band, i only play for my own enjoyment so the me50 is perfect for me

Because I can! It's to do with using the distortion of the preamp from the Amp and putting the wah before the input of the preamp. Crazy!

For a nice clean tone, bit of stereo chorus, no noise threshold, no compressor, hall reverb.

Do you hear this, Speedway? Certified lunatic, i'm telling you.

So it's like slave/master job except you're using the GT-8?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    Slave what now?

Basically, any effects that should normally be placed before the amp can be set on the GT-8, then it's off to the amp to get your distortion, back into the GT-8 for delay, chorus, whatever and back to the amp to make it loud.

You can even change amp channels with the GT-8! Shatpank!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 565 ✭✭✭Speedway

hmmm a master slave set up with a gt-8 hmmmm interesting...mind boggling but interesting

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

What i meant by slaving is using the source signal and then sending it to a second (slave) power amp.

How is that different from a loop in this case?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Wah and pitch shifters should be used (normally) before any distortion or anything is added. If you put the GT-8 in the loop, you only get a distorted tone. Using the 4 cable method, as it's known, you can put effects before the amp or in the loop, whichever you want.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

    Yes.

So you're saying that the GT-8 has an inbuilt wah and shifter?

Multiple edit: ok, i geddit now.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    Yes.

Then it's something here that i can't make sense of.

They way you describe it makes sense, but if you have to go through this 4 cable method to achieve that, wouldn't it mean that there is an inherent flaw in the GT-8 setup? Or i guess it's just the unavoidable consequence of throwing all effects into one box........

I think i'm gonna go watch some TV.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Well, if you like the wah in front of the amp but the delay in the loop, you have to use the 4 cable method. It all depends on what sound you want. The 4 cable method is probably the most versitile way of connecting it.

    Makes sense......

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    Quite.

Hmm, an Instruments boards beers could be interesting. Loads of old buggers sitting around a table with glasses of brandy discussing the properties of speakers...

Doc, we can't let him get away with this, that young whipper snapper

I'll swap you a couple of loaves of Brennans for some gear.

Now you can't say that i'm not a considerate guy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

2 cables and i'll throw in a jar of Nutella for free.

Speedway, do you see what messing with multi-fx does to your mind?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Aye, that's the point of the cabling thingy. Which effects to put before the amp and which to put in the loop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

    I like waffles!

I don't think you can run it from the lighter socket but it takes 6 AA's and last about 20 hours at full volume on them.

Wah on your clutch? Interesting... You could pimp your ride :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

indeed i'd love just an input on the dash as u just plug in and it comes out your speaks...which would be engls or course

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Car speakers would probably sound like muck for an amp. They're basically a PA. But a POD in the dash would rock!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

it would indeed or i could just stick the gmajor in th boot and make the fcb1010 into the floor...no i mean replace the speakers with 4x12 vintage 30s

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Of course, that amount of sound pressure in a small enclosed space like a car interior would blow your ears probably. Not to mention sound ****e :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

it'd be still funky...think i'll get a cube and a cheapo ibanez or somethin for my breaks hmm

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Aye, not a bad idea. Even a second hand Squier or something could be very cool. There's some decent Squier knocking about these days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

there is i might just do that...battery powered amp is a great idea..it has effects on it dunnit...what 3 stomps do u have on the me-50...chorus delay and something else is it???

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Distortion, Modulation and Delay with the Expression pedal that does wah and pitch along with a couple others.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote
