PIXIES TO MAKE FIRST ALBUM IN 14 YEARS

Reformed alt-rock legends PIXIES are planning to record their first album in 14 years.

The band’s frontman Black Francis has confirmed the band, who got back together last year to huge acclaim, are preparing to make their first studio album since 1991’s ’Trompe Le Monde’.

He told The Sun: “It's all hugs and kisses, I'm pleased to report.

"We have been discussing recording a new album lately. As happy as we are with the success of the reunion tour, we really want to make a record for the right reasons, whether it is successful commercially or not."

He added: "We would be satisfied if it played like our other records, never chart-topping but always in print."

Since the band got back together they have recorded two songs - ’Bam Thwok’ - which was rejected for the ’Shrek 2’ soundtrack and then released as a download-only single, and a cover of Warren Zevon’s ’Ain’t That Pretty At All’, which appeared on ’Enjoy Every Sandwich’, a tribute album to the late singer.

Pixies headline this year’s Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds Festivals between August 27 and 29.

Black Francis releases a new solo album under the name Frank Black next week (July 18). ’Honeycomb’ is the first record he’s done alone since 1996’s ’The Cult Of Ray’.

I would consider myself a big pixies fan. I went to the last gig in pheonix park and it was excellent and going again in Lansdown rd. I am excited about the new Pixies album but if it doesn't live up to what's expected of them I'd say it will hurt them in the long run. It would be like Audioslave's two album efforts. I'm a big fan of Soundgarden and Rage but Audioslaves stuff doesn't even come close to the standards of either band. The band members themselves, being talented musicians, must know this which leads me to believe they're only in it for easy money. If the Pixies follow this road I'd say they'll loose a lot of respect from devout fans. Anyone know if any new material is available to download?

Wouldn't be too pushed for it. Their day's past and they seem to be living purely off their name now.

hardly living off their name since they havent made an album since 1991 and they only reunited to start touring a year ago

touring on all their own songs, hence living off their name, and their past

Of course. They should be touring on all other peoples songs! they could dress up in drag and play country music and be introduced as the Pixie chicks!

Seriously its what bands do. If all they did was play entirely new songs not that many people would go.

Couldnt care less if they played new songs or not, as long as they play the classics TBH. and a few b-sides and pretty much anything off bossanova thats brilliant but rarely gets a look in.

ok the first part I meant old songs, dunno why I wrote own, my bad.

I'm not saying they should play entirely new songs, by all means play their classics yes, but they've already done their reunion gig in Ireland, they should mix it up a good bit

i presume there playing old songs because they dont really have any new songs
    to play

Yeah, they had a falling out, so stopped making and playing music together.
Then, it was suggested they do a tour, whether it be for purely financial reasons, or whatever, but like "shuush" said, it's not as if they're ditching some new material they love, just to make the fans happy (which is hardly a nasty thing anyway) - they're doing it because they don't have new songs.

Judging by the exorbitant ticket prices, their reunion has been purely for financial reasons, which would suggest that this album will be ****.

how much were the tickets ? i thought they were the usual bog standard overpriced gig ticket price

didnt realise pixies were such a love them or hate them band

The tickets were expensive, but for KOL as well as the pixies it's fair game! Alot of bands have had rifts got back together and got new stuff done. I mean they've had well over a year and all they got is two new songs, one which isn't even good enough to make it onto a Shrek CD!

They're the same price as all the other Bud Rising gigs in landsdowne. Besides, bands don't set the ticket price, just their fee, which is a minority expense for the promoters

Personally, would much rather see them record an album and make a balls of it than not record one and never know what could have been. Who knows? The new album could be f*cking awesome. Think positively people!

Thats cock, they have only recorded/played 2 songs in concert but there are more written. Yes we all know how good the shrek soundtrack was with that fantastci **** crows song...

the price isn't anymore exensive than last year when they played with some ****e band where this year you get at least one other decent band plus the support act don't close the gig this time.

Well for a CD that includes Tom Waits and Nick Cave it looks like Counting Crows got picked over the Pixies. Hate that.

60 euro to go see The Pixies, Kings of Leon and Teenage FanClub ?

that isnt expensive at all christ Radiohead was 50 euro

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

Yeah but Radiohead was worth it. One good at best band (Pixies) and two mediocre ones in a venue with iffy sound. Definitely not worth €60 in my opinion.

Exactly. The Olympia/Point were small for Radiohead's standards, seems to be quite the opposite for Pixies at Lansdowne! Don't think Kings of Leon could beat Asian Dub Foundation as a support act either.

I love Pixies but hate Lansdowne Road for concerts.

Last year they played with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers!! I'm not a huge fan of the chillies but I'd hardly describe them as being sh**e! But I agree the Pixies definitely stole the show.

I do think the tickets are a little expensive and I think it would be much better if they played two gigs in the olympia so that the real fans can get to see them up close. Anyway I love the Pixies so I'm going anyway.
