Only source we have so far is somebody's friend's text message - I want evidence...

What were Lost's ratings in the U.S. like?

It doesn't do too bad in the ratings

lads i've never seen this show in my life but if you are going on one source that is some guy's friend - from Dalkey (which is completely irrelevant) - then i'd say it's as good as safe until there's solid proof.

remember innocent until proven guilty, how about still airing until told otherwise by the shows broadcaster?

This is a load of bull...its is getting 250,000 viewers a week and they still have ads on for each episode. Please lock this BS thread with some git making up lies. Would RTE cut the best show on their crappy little network?...well actually you never know with RTE :D lol,but thats not the point, the ratings are in the top 10,O2 have paid a lot of advertising rights. This thread is BS.

Its in the top 10 ratings every week...it has better acting than most shows on tv,you have no idea what the story is after 7 episode,no idea AT ALL,and,ye,basically its the best thing on tv! :D

well I didnt say that, its what i think, but I didnt say that...4 days have passed on the island in 6 eps, compared to the rest of the season, nothing has happened yet. Eps 10 and 11 is where it starts to get going!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,136 ✭✭✭✭is_that_so

Not surprised if it turn out to be true. As I posted elsewhere I thought it was a very poor premise and certainly not worth the money. To be fair there are at least half a dozen other imported programmes that deserve to be canned. My own feeling is that RTE should do as it is meant and actually commission programmes instead of being lazy and buying everything in from the US and UK. They've had a couple of successes of their own of late and they could even make money out of it.

Then why didn't they condense the first 9 episodes into 30 minutes? I think it's been a big disappointment so far. Don't know why I'm still watching it.

Kind of poor statement there...its getting 1/4 million viewers,O2 payed a crap load of advertising, seems like they are making money to me...and this thread is just some guy making it up, FYI

If you dont like it,sod off then ffs! they are introducing the characters and the mystery of the island first, you cant just have them all bond on the first day...id rather you stop watching than come in bitching about it...

I think you'll find my comments, though a little off topic are to do with RTE's raison d'etre - programme making. This programme is merely symptomatic of the laziness that pervades RTE. I am indifferent to whether it comes or goes, but if it does go, would happily dispatch a few more as well. :p

PS I'm with the poster who suggested condensing it. It would have been great as a two part mini-series . :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,299 ✭✭✭Sandals

    Yeah they should condense it.
(BTW I saw all 25 episode, its ok but not great.)

I keep saying it...you havnt seen what this show is about, whats about to come, you coudl never fit into a 2 part mini-series.

I guess thats all a matter of opinion...because I would say it was damn brilliant, better than much of the crap you find on tv.

Actually, thats woeful ratings for what is (and was hyped to be) RTE2s big season show.... especially given the huge amount they paid for it.
It's definately nowhere near the success of Friends or ER, and the ad buying agencies are losing confidence over it.

It may have actually been a smarter policy to wait until just before it was being shown in the UK... just hold off a week or two in advance. That way, RTE would have gained from "spill-over" media hype that would have captured a greater audience. (Havent 5 bought it? Surprised no one bigger bought it if so... perhaps they thought it wouldnt go down well....)
For example, Desperate Housewives pulled in between around 350 to 400k a week. Everyone I know watched it on RTE and the hype created by the program was amazing.

Personally, I think the first two eps put a lot of people off (me included) and it just never recovered.

I never hear anyone in my workplace or in pubs talking about it.
Looks like the planners at RTE screwed up royaly.
Time to invest our licence money elsewhere! Bring on more home talent quick!!

No worries, I'll leave you to it. As I said I posted a while back on the merits of the show. Let's just say I passed on it.

Agree with this, similar to my position on it.

It only gets lower ratings than Friends because it is on much later and is less appealing to the wide range of people who are interested in Friends in terms of age/intelligence.

LOST is fantastic, having seen it all, you dont wanna miss out.

DH was always going to be a hit because of the amount of women that tune in,250,000 is good for an RTE show, but I agree they should have waited until E4 started advertising it. The CSI shows are still getting regular slots and are only averaging about 170,000 a week,so this talk of them axing it is a load of bull.

I would strongly agree with this. I'd even go as far as to say ep 9. Anyone that is getting bored at round ep 6/7 I wouldn't blame u cause they are pretty crap. I strongly suggest u stick it out.

No the word realistic in that context does not relate to being fictitious or non fictitious they are saying it is blatantly impossible to believe eg. ALl survivors surving(I know that sounds ****ed up its late, who cares,)
