Ok so there been just a whisper of a meet and greet, I'd be up for it but I'm guessing not everyone is in dublin?

Any suggestions? Once we get an idea of numbers and a possible venue we'll pick a date that suits as many as we can.

We might even invite a few ghosts!

On a potentially similar note, anyone ever gone on the very fun "Dublin Ghost Bus"?

This sounds good, (I think I whispered it).

Never been on the ghost bus....

The Ghost Bus is good fun as long as you dont take any of it too seriously, but i'd imagine its a good lighthearted ice breaker.

Can I be the first to suggest a pub .... Oliver Goldsmiths beside Central Bank on Dame Street. I'm a tallaght guy so its not a difficult one for me!

    Anyone else got a suggestion?

We could even do the Ghost Bus if anyone wants, i think people should do the touristy things in thir own country as much as possible!

Well, I could probably make it... it's a good idea. :D I'm going away for the last two weeks of July, though. I've never been on the Ghost Bus either!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

I just checked about the Ghost Bus, its Monday -Friday at 8pm, from outside Dublin bus on O'Connell Street. Price is €22 per person and would have to be booked 1 week in advance coz of all the tourists at the moment.

Who wants to go on the 8th July?

Its kinda hard to make arrangments coming from Waterford, think the tall ships are on the 8th here and will be difficult to get in or out of the city.. I have a few comittments first week in August too, I'm never really sure when I'm free (parenthood) but go ahead and make plans and if I can I'll join you.

I'm up for it, but unfortunatly can't commit- issues and all that.... and I'm going on my hol's the followign day!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

ok so people have alot on at the moment but just name some dates and venues that suit in August and lets make this happen!

I think the best thing to do is to set a date 3 or 4 weeks in advance in a venue in town.
I llike the Bleedin horse, its central enough and generally quiet during the week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

    ok how about:
Thursday 11th August in The Bleedin Horse from 7.30ish?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 9,689 Mod ✭✭✭✭stevenmu

Daytime might be better for people who have further to come, it might let them hop on an a train, come up for the day and go home again in the evening ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

ok so a saturday or sunday lunch time?

    Come on people suggestions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,633 ✭✭✭stormkeeper

If this is happening sometime in August, I'll be able to make it. Or at least I'll try to anyway. I was intending to stay about a month in Ireland anyway.

Saturday may be better, in case people have work on Monday.

I might be interested in the Greet and grub (Hopefully I am not working that weekend).

However, I have no idea whereabouts the "Bleeding Horse" is, is that the pub beside the central bank?

Also, I am up for the Ghost Bus as its sounds like fun. I was never on it before.

I think I'd be free around then but I'm not very good at planning ahead so remind me closer to it and I'll see.

(I have it marked in my planner, the problem is I never look at thing)

I went on the Dublin ghost bus about a year ago it was great - not sure how true some of it was but it was great for a laugh and the tour guide was very funny.

Hope you all have a great time :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

    ok this is getting confusing!

The last date/venue & time i said was "Thursday 11th August in the Bleeding horse at 7.30" now obviously the time doesnt really matter coz some people are always early (like me) and some like to be fashionable late.

Does this suit anyone or will i be sitting on my own?

If it doesnt suit can people give me alternatives?

That reminds me, I've been trying to think of some kind of little experiment to do along with this meet and greet but can't really think of anything suitable, anyone got any ideas ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

I wont be there, so this is easy for me...
Everyone bring a small anonymous personal item, distribute at random and see if you know who the one youre given belongs to?
Write down a description of everyone who will be there before you go, and see how accurate you are (except dub6th - spoiler :D )

KittyKat, the Meet&Greet dont have to always be dublin based.... an invite to your neck of the woods might well recieve quite a turn out! Are you even in ireland?

dublin6th, if you are arranging this so the most ammount of people can attend
then the weekend would be better.
If your arranging it you have to falicate others and not just what is perfect for you .

I'll do my best to show up at the very least =).

Money going out not enough comeing in .. nerf :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

Thaed, i understand where you are coming from and i've made it clear numerous times that if anyone has alternative suggestions they are free to make them, but noone has said "that date doesnt suit me... but here's one that does". I dont wish to exclude anyone but seeing as i am the one starting this thread obviously i'm gonna pick a date that suits me.

Would you be interested in coming along? & if so when suits you if the current date doesnt?

TBH I think thursday is good, it should be quiet enough which makes it easy enough to find people...

Exactly! Meeting in City Centre is the best i can suggest, thats why i think during the week is good ..... has anyone been in a quiet pub in town on the weekend?

Also its just a starting point, it doesnt have to be an all nighter but its a chance to sit down, put faces to names and talk about something we're all interested in. I know i dont know many people who share this interest with me in my day to day life, i sure its the same for a few of us.

    So who's in?

oh and i stuck a poll in .... my first one too (thanks Thaed)

I could make it pretty much no bothers. I'm heading back to London the following evening, so I can take the hangover into account :P

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 54 ✭✭Yule3

I will probably be able to make it, although I maybe a little late since I will be working that day.

Also, I will need someone to give me directions to the "Bleeding Horse" as I don't really know where this pub is :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,566 ✭✭✭Gillo

    http://www.dublinpubscene.com/thepubs/thebleedinghorse.html
www.dto.ie and go into the route finder

From Grafton street, (Stephens green end) put your back to Grafton st and walk down the side of the green with the Luas, when you get to the next corner keep going the same direction (follow the Luas), you are now on Harcourt St. Walk down to nearly the far end, and thake the first major turn right (there are one or town smaller roads but it's the first big on) across the road from the turn off is the fraud squad & CAB office, there'll be a police man there out side a massive redbrick building, on your left you'll have The POD / Red Box complex. Once you have turned right you should be able to see it at the end of the street on the left hand side.

Alternatively, start at the bottom of Georges St. and walk away from town, its a straight route Georges St, Aungier, Wexford st, then Camden St. it's just one long road, not as nice a walk but easier to find.

Thanks for the directions Gillo. Is this greet and Grub definately going to be on the 11th? If so, I will ask my manager for that night off, as I work at evenings/nights.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,371 ✭✭✭✭Zillah

Oh God, I'm actually planning on going to meet a bunch of crazy internet wierdoes in a pub in town. Luckily I know the bleeding horse well so that simplifies the process :)

So, does our path lead from the Bleed Horse to the ghost tour or are we just gonna sit around and get hammered?

Are the two mutually exclusive ? ;)

Either way I'm thinking I better try and get friday off.
