It was announced by Bill Gates that Xbox360 will have a hidden function, does anyone have any ideas what it might be?

I'd say it is Xbox Live and it can only be unlocked a year after its launch.

In fact, from rumours i have heard, microsoft are keen to bring in something called "immersive 360" gaming.... my lips are sealed, but trust me, it sounds like its going to be the next evoloution of computer systems

you put the 360 on your head with some vr goggles and throw punches at thin air until you get motion sickness and throw up? sounds great!

Thats sounds nice, but they're supposed to be seriously developing the concept of virtual reality. such as games where you may get into a car but have to physically make the motion to start the ignition? and don't mention eyetoy....anybody watching you playing with one of them would think you'd just popped a load of e's and dancing to the tunes inside your head...i nearly broke my face because of that stupid thing...

    For the love of

All this secret "revolutionary" business is really testing the limits of my patience, I can't wait to see what all these companies have up their sleeves.

Dancing beside your TV is one thing, "physically make the motion to start the ignition" is just crazy... 'oh, look, there Jim trying to start his car before he has even left his house, again'....

    Old Fashioned ^^ ;)

I can understand that it would look stupid but just look at how popular they eyetoy was when it came out. People don't mind looking spasticated if they are enjoying what they are doing. I on the other hand had the misfortune of getting into a heated game of eyetoy virtua fighter and ended up with a groin strain and busting my face off a shelf.....

the immersion gaming thing -->microsoft never revolutionise anything, they just copy what everyone else does and seems to make money.

it'll be one of four things

    1) pricey hardware upgrade to play all games from then on forcing everyone to go and buy the damn thing.
2)OS update to allow for more windows media centre like services or an itunes music store like service for multimedia.
3)a wireless network for xbox 360 users so that xbox live is no longer dependant on the speed of your connection. This is very far fetched. If it does happen it'll only be in the use for the first part of the year.
4)some kind of unlockable video commemorating the one year anniversary of the 360.

It's really a secret function timed like NIGHTS was on the sega a few years ago, but with a twist.. instead of christmas having snow, it's a weather control device which distorts weather patterns across the globe and gives Mr Gates the world domination he always wanted ;)

Honestly though, it'll probably unlock a hidden feature like LIVE for 360 .

Either that, or just for wicked pleasure he's programmed all games to play that stupid crazy frog as the soundtrack to all games, and the sound is locked in the on position :p

It does... on selected "popular" games. The only drawback: you have to rebuy the games, as its made for a different chip!
In odder news, Munetatsu has also suggested that the Xbox 360 will feature some kind of crazy hidden functions which won't be unveiled until a year after launch, when you'll be able to download an Xbox Live update to access them.
    http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=59608

In other words: we have sh|t all @ the mo, so we're gonna wait to see how the PS3 turns out, and then well see what we can add to make the xbox more uber than your grannies 1920's porno vids.

Well I was just joking, given that MS have been so sketchy. But I doubt you'll have to buy anything new, it would be a marketting disaster. Eurogamer report that MS have made advances in the whole thing, but no one knows just yet

anyone say bleem ! (remember the dreamcast had bleem discs which allowed you to emulate the ps1 games).

We have been through this before on another thread. You will not need to pay for them again. The Xbox360 will be emulating the Xbox so you just put your discs in and play.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,227 ✭✭✭gamer

probably some form of copy protection system.

we'll see when the revolution comes out. Nintendo are the still the only ones to actually come up with new ideas

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 10,247 Mod ✭✭✭✭flogen

actually Dermo, that's a good point, maybe the 360 hidden feature is "whatever Nintendo do"!!
I can't really figure what it could be... if it was something crazy like the ability to play PC games (a la the Phantom) that would be amazing but it's not going to happen. Maybe they'll release some new Software update that allows you to hook up a USB/Wireless mouse and keyboard along with some 360 web-browser.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 125 ✭✭SonicDoom2005

Okay, what it will actually do is go around your house watering the plants while you are out....then when you come home you'll be able to take it to bed for some hot uncensored action between the sheets....then it will turn itself on and allow you to play games with it under the blanket in the dark..... ah yes.... but talking of innovation people, you do know you can turn the xbox 360 on without even going near the console? perfect for those lazy afternoons..

That woulds be nice indeed, I might get one if I could play the likes of halo on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,057 ✭✭✭kjt

I heard it was a new controller that cost €250.
Think their calling it the 'Wireless battery operated vagina'

    Self explantory really....

They've had alot of interest from the pr0n websites around the world wanting to go further into gaming after M$ let this out of the bag.

I hope its something VR related.. last time i used a vr machine was about 10 years ago, it wasn't that bad at the time. It'd be interesting to see how things have come along in that area.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 125 ✭✭SonicDoom2005

yes vr isn't too bad....apart from the splitting headaches, blurred vision, paranoia and general disorientation when you come out of it....

I cant believe how overcranked you are all getting about it , the jokes are funny but seriously , forget vr , forget any graphical innovations or anything like that. If there are goin to be major innovations as such they will not spring out of nowhere on a console. It will just be some pathetic thing that will not enhance the gaming experience whatsoever , and yes I do occasionally get tired of pessimistic.

As it won’t be unveiled until a year after the launch, it of course means every Xbox hacker was just placed on high alert, and anyone with an internet connection will probably be able to find out how to access them by the following Valentines Day.

I found out what it is after a year when PS3 and Revolution is out it automatically grows legs and goes around breaking everything in your room that has got to with Sony or Nintendo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,684 ✭✭✭savemejebus

In my opinion what it is is standard microsoft marketing strategy. For years now microsoft have kept their market share in the face of new and "revolutionary" :D products by announcing that their version of this product will be superior, and out a few months after the original. In this way people who would have originally bought the competing product can be swayed into waiting for the "better" ms version.

As a result the original product doesn't sell well, the company is fogotten/goes out of business and microsoft release a sub standard MS version which will sell by the bucketload.

So IMO this "hidden function" announcement is basically MS saying

"Why buy a Nintendo revolution with its fancy new controller system when the MS version will be out soon enough and will be better. wink wink"

This is the strategy for all of the consoles. Sony have there "cg quality graphics" and Nintendo have revolutionary controller.
