Statuettes with question marks.

Ok, I can't really remember much about this show other than there were some kids and then some bad guys. Their objective was to go all over the world and find little statuettes (they could of been of the tower of pisa) but I remember specifically they had either a question mark underneath them or an exclamation mark.

Pretty vague description I know, but I can't remember what it was.

Also while I'm at it, there was another show on around the same time where people would put this headset on and go into this virtual reality medevil place. There friend would have to guide them around by calling out the direction to go. It was kinda 3d medievil computer world as such..

    Oh sorry yeah, Knightmare.

The other one is back there in my brain. They whole question marks thingy sounds familar. Was it a programme or a gameshow? and what happened when they got the statue? I'm sure If I don;'t get it someone else will. We're pretty good here in All Thing Retro!! :D

It was a programme for sure. I can't remember what happens when they get the little statues.. I'm almost sure it was the tower of pisa statue that had the question mark. It's the question mark that rings the bell for me.

It sounds a bit like T-Bag, where they'd have to collect 12 identical things (a different item each series) - but I don't think they had question marks or exclamation marks on them. T-Bag (who was evil) had a sidekick, called T-Shirt who could disappear when he blinked his eyes and would always end up helping the heroine of the show. At the end of each series it would be revealed that all the action had actually taken place inside a teapot - brilliant!

ok, the details please(coz Im finding nothing):

    MAde when? 80's 90's?
    Characters: Kids,teenagers, adults?
    Any prizes got?
Why they doing it? to save the world etc?
    Shown on BBC or ITV?
Set in what time? Present day or decades ago?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,759 ✭✭✭✭dlofnep

As far as I can remember - It was late 80's, possibly very early 90's. The characters were probably teenagers but very young ones as I visualise them being older than me at the time. They had to collect a certain amount of objects with question marks or exclamation marks that were on them. Can't remember why they were doing it. It could of been on any channel but channels on tv back then were limited to rte 1,2 itv, bbc, the childrens channel and sky. I'd say it was on ITV or BBC most out of all them. It was set in that current time I believe.

I've been looking at info about The Mysterious Cities of Gold but that doesn't mention statuettes, although they did travel around.

Try taking a look at this list

there is a thread, started by me, somewhere in this forum all about the show with teh Leaning Tower of Pisa statuettes. If you search for it you will find it.

There is actually a fairly good discussion of it, one guy even found photos as I remember and had a really good memory of it.

It was on TCC. Small 10 minute episode with two brothers going round the world collecting the statues which were kinda like parts of a big lock that the villains wanted to open.

One post says it's called interbang, but I can't find anything on google about it other than a tcd website that is only accessible via the google cache.

I reckon this (http://www.maths.tcd.ie/~z/interbang/) is the site Draupnir is talking about. Unfortunately it seems to be down/discontinued atm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,548 ✭✭✭Draupnir

yeah thats the site I was on about and yup, that was the name of the show!!

it was on TCC before all that fancy logo stuff game in, probably around 89 - 90.

I remember being very confused by it, yet intrigued.

I tried looking up on IMDB for it but no mention of it under interbang. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,440 ✭✭✭Dizzyblabla

see, it's probably a really bad translation from Italian maybe? so Interbang was probably just the English name for it *sigh*...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,759 ✭✭✭✭dlofnep

Yeah, I tried freetranslation.com for "interbang" and "inter bang" but it's not italian. I think I'll ask the italian chipper guys tomorrow if they remember it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,440 ✭✭✭Dizzyblabla

I checked google.it, and there was one site talking about it, but google translator didn't seem to make much sense of what they were saying either... something about it being around between 1989 and 1991, that's about it!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,759 ✭✭✭✭dlofnep

We're getting closer me thinks. I think I'll ring dominos pizza and ask to speak to someone italian. They always have foreigners working there and let's face it, there's as much chance finding an italian in a pizzeria as finding an irishman in a pub.

    ha ha ha ha ha!

Alright rang dominos, no one italian working there. Who would of known? Staff was suprisingly courteous to me - considering the circumstances. Onto plan B.

I remember that show! It was shown on The Childrens Channel around 1990, 1991 or there abouts. I remember seeing the final episode inside the actual Leaning Tower of Pisa also. The show was a pile of crap to me. The two brothers just hopped on to little mopeds or what not and just zipped around picking up those little towers. Also it looked really dated and had none of the flashy stuff to entice a six year old liek I was at the time.
I'm not sure on teh name but Interbang does sound right, however if that is so would you not think a search on Google would bring up some hits from British message boards?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,440 ✭✭✭Dizzyblabla

    Try 4 star!! - or Gino's??

No credit left on me phone :(

Suprisingly enough, it only seems to be irish message boards that have it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,440 ✭✭✭Dizzyblabla

they don't have it on eBay or Amazon either :( I think we've hit a dead end....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,759 ✭✭✭✭dlofnep

Ohh, I'm not giving up just yet. I'll find out, I'm going to go up to the chipper before I go to work tomorrow and ask them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,954 ✭✭✭✭Larianne

No, no don't give up on it yet!! Coz I wanna know aswell!!! I'll have a look around on the net tomorrow aswell. ;)
