Today was definitely the worst day so far for me. I got the injection in March and that seems to have don't nothing for me. I think I've tried everything so far to date. A mate of mine got me these tablets from America that I'm trying at the mo but to no great avail. That's Zirtek, Telfast, and the many nose sprays that haven't worked so far. It's really interrupting my work so something has to be done. I think my eye sight is suffering too - everything is becoming a blur.

It kicked off for me this week. Started with those damn itchy eyes. Took Clarityn and it's been fine since.

I never had it before, then I spent a year in Spain. The following year (last year) back in Ireland it all started. I tried everything last year and if I get through this year without committing murder it will be a result

nothing is helping, clarityn, steroid tablets, steroid sprays... sitting here sneezing all over the place, eyes streaming, nose running, itchy throat... pain in the face!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,937 ✭✭✭fade2black

My face feels like it's been rubbed all over with poison ivy. (For those who have no idea what hay fever is like)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 26 PowerPuffGirl

Clarityn etc like eating sweeties for all the good it did me (I've had hayfever for about ten years now every summer)... I take Bioforce's Luffa Complex now, it's been better for me than any synthesised stuff! :D

i had a mix of Zirtek, Nasle spray(name escapes me but it has a orange lid) and eye drops, combined it works JUST but granted today is the worst day yet, Also notice today had a warm wind for the first time this year, maybe its related.

Worst sympton though is the itchy throat, man alive i could explode when i get that,

Argh. I am in ****ING BITS today. It feels like I've got some kind of incredibly itchy eye-scabies going on, plus my nose is dripping like a tap and itchy too, along with my throat. FIE, POLLEN!!!! Today is the worst day i've ever had with it.

Anyone got any decent solutions apart from piss-poor Clarityn/Zirtek etc?

I hate it, I've always been a bad sufferer, last summer I ended up taking piriton every few hours just so that I never had it. I can't find my tablets though  , so I feel like sh!t, especially when I'm during exams I hate it.

    It's an allergy to pollen...

Today's my worst day this year, I got it so bad in 2003 that I went and got the shots last year. They were brilliant for me. I have three of them in my press but haven't had a chance to go to the doctor yet and get them injected 'cos of the feckin' Leaving Cert. And no I am not taking the chance of injecting them myself - they go in your asscheek dammit!

Anyway, I think I'm going to go and have to get it done tomorrow. They're called Kenalog and they're basically moderately strong steroids - they work for me!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,579 ✭✭✭Pet

They worked for me too, but I'm really not comfortable with taking immunosuppressant steroids like that, so it's my last resort..

Angel: you had any dodgy fits during any exams? I must have sneezed about 30 times during biology... and there weren't even any questions on the damn immune system!! :p

Pet: considering how bad I had it, I would've taken fscking crack to stop it - I'm fairly sure a hard drugs dependency is better than living as a sneezing snot producer.

I got a few pity looks from the examiner today but that's it, you can't expect them to do anything really. Thankfully it wasn't during the whole exam just nearing the end. Piriton works really well though I think I'll have to get some tomo.

All the ladies are always telling me i'm flawless and that i'm perfect in every way but i'm not. They're all wrong
    I HAVE HAYFEVER.
Hayfever is hell.Theres nothing worse than when Pighead is in the process of sealing the deal with a beautiful woman in a nightclub when all of a sudden his snout starts leaking uncontrollably and his poor eyes swell up horribly to make him look like like the elephant man.
Well for all you fellow sufferers help is at hand, check this miracle of modern technology out and say goodbye to your hayfever blues:

    Handy.

Is anyone else waking up in the morning completely blocked up? I'm getting a chesty cough...blocked nose oh and of course the itchy and running eyes. If I don't make it through the day tell my ma I love her

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,175 ✭✭✭angeldelight

I get it rally badly so by the sounds of it I'm glad I wasn't in Ireland yesterday and won't be for a while! It's annoying cause when the weather's lovely I hate being inside with the windows closed, but the alternative is to take piriton which is the only brand that works for me and then I can't keep my eyes open!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 161 ✭✭boidey

the lightest touch of vaseline on your nose in the morning is suprisingly effective. No use once your eyes/nose has flared up

Well, went and got my steroids this morning from the good Doctor... he seems to enjoy injecting steroids into peoples ass cheeks way too much. Regardless, feeling fine now but it'll take a couple of days for everything to settle down.

Edit: Kenalog is what I get by the way.

i have it bad today, but im getting some Rhinolast spray over the weekend. It works great, but kinda has a funny taste if you spray it wrong

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 974 ✭✭✭MooShop

thank god i dont get it and hopefully never will it sounds awful, i feel sorry for ye guys

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,078 ✭✭✭tabatha

my husband got his kenalog injection 3 days ago and the difference is unbelievable. he gets it every year. the only thing he still has a bit of is itchy eyes in the evenings. gone is the streaming eyes and nose though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,309 ✭✭✭✭Bard

By the way, I would VERY strongly recommend Flixonase. It's a nasal spray for combatting the symptoms of hay fever. It includes a steroid to strengthen the inside of your nose to make it more resistant to that ticklish feeling that can start so many of us off machine-gun-sneezing. It's the only remedy I've found that works for me. It's made by GlaxoSmithKline and should be available from your local Pharmacy.

    More info here

Mine is so bad my sneeze is like a bloody fog horn its so loud

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,068 ✭✭✭yermandan

    my fellow hayfevar sufferers....

i pity you guys so much because i am in an absolute jocker and have been for 2 weeks now.Its defo the worst year yet for pollen.
I take piriton and it makes me drowsey so i get tiredness into the bargain too.
Over the past few days and nites i have been so bad that i have woken myself up sneezing!!!!hhahahahaha..I kid you not people....

Anyway if you have a sore nose from wiping, i find that baby wipes do the trick of soothing the sting.

Other than that, i feel the collective pain and whenever it gets really bad, just sit back and thank **** you're not impotent

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,184 ✭✭✭✭Pighead

I've got hay fever impotency and i cant whistle. :(
What can I thank **** for?

The only thing that's made me feel better this summer is this thread. At least I know I'm not suffering alone. Last Friday was the worst (17th June) which was my birthday. Myself and the misses went into town to do some shopping before my birthday dinner in Oscars in Galway. My eyes were so fúcking itchy I rubbed and rubbed and rubbed until my GF freaked and said you've burst your eye ball (jelly in my eye). All this on my birthday. Contemplated going to casualty but decided to lay down in the car for an hour and see if it improved (which it did). Was ok the next morning until I rubbed my eyes too hard again that evening with the same result. I've suffered ever since I was about 5. I had the injection most years but I always seem to forget to get it (to be most effective you need to get it in April so it's at full strength come the summer). BTW my doctor always advises against getting the injection as it's a steroid and as such is not good for you. There was talk of them taking it off the market.

I live in the countryside in the middle of all the cut silage. I need to move onto a boat and live at sea for the summer.
