Kildare v Laois

This game next Sunday will be a very hard game to call. On form Kildare should dispose of Laois however Laois have now the benefit of a tough game against Offaly under their belts and will be a differnt team altogether.

While I was extremely disappointed with Kildare's performance against Wicklow, I was more than impressed with their performance against Westmeath. I believe Padraig Nolan has been a very unlucky manager having to rebuild a new team (bar 3/4) following Micko's reign. He can also count himself unlucky he doesn't have a Leinster title (2003) and hasn't had the rub of the green with qualifier draws either. All in all he deserves a bit of luck as this could be his last year.

Kildare will be all out for revenge following Leinster 2003, however I'm not sure if it'll be enough but they won't go down without a fight.

Come on now, the game against Offaly was hardly difficult!Difficult to watch, maybe. Hate to say it, but we were so bad we made Offaly look good!

Who mentioned difficult?? I meant tough.... as in a hard 70 mins. It does make a huge difference to a team when they have a game played.

I take it by your tones that you don't give a Laois a chance. Am I right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 332 ✭✭*marie*

No it was just a misinterpretation! I think Laois are well able to do it if they put their mind to it, they've just been a bit off this year. Plus they'll have Shane Cooke back on Sunday I think so that should be a good boost.
My heart says Laois but I think it will be a very close match!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 500 ✭✭✭hawker

I agree, it's very diffcult to call. Perhaps it might even end up in a draw. I think we'll be guaranteed a decent game of football because both teams generally try to play a bit, although I have to say Kildare did rough up Westmeath a bit in the last game.

May the best team win. Please Please let it be Kildare!

Is that because you can slag all yer Laois mates?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 332 ✭✭*marie*

Exactly! Well I like seeing Laois doing well, but if I had to choose.....!
The slagging is great cos usually about 20 of us go up together so you can imagine. It's horrible if Dublin are beaten though...

A tough one to call, but I think it will be Laois.

Laois to win on Sunday and Wexford to kill the Dubs

Wex V Laois Final would be cool

Laois are up for it and they will not play as bad as against Offaly

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 219 ✭✭lisaloo

Laois to win on Sunday. Padraig Clancy will have to play better and start running for the ball instead of falling over it. if Laois can win the ball midfield they should be able to beat Kildare.

cant wait for the match and hope that Wexford will F*** up the Dubs

Christ, the Laois fans are obviously very scared of the Dubs. Hope for your sake you dont have to play them in the final.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 219 ✭✭lisaloo

Listen you silly. we beat the Dubs before and we will beat them again given the chance. just like to see Wexford do well and beat them.

oh we are well able for the hill 16 ers. bring it on!!!

Laois have not turned in a good performance since they won the Leinster title the year before last. I would not be shooting my mouth of so much if I were a Laois fan!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 Laois Fan

:) Well this is their chance to redeem themselves, laois ran Dublin out of croke park 2 years ago and the 50,000 dubs with them it was electric.

    Wexford to skin the dubs

Nice to be positive about our county and believe in them, up laois again!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,832 ✭✭✭Waylander

Ran Dublin off the pitch? They won the game by two points and Dublin played poorly but still had alot of wides. You seem to be remembering a different game than I do. However, both teams have other obstacles to try to beat before they worry about each other. I think Laois should get by Kildare without too much trouble, Dublin have a tough game ahead though, but i think they will pull through.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,183 ✭✭✭jobless

kildare all the way for me!...laois have had their luck this year....offaly hit a colosal amount of wides and laois stuck a lucky goal in at the end.....
Live on your victory 2 years ago lads....i'd say you'll be living on it a good while yet!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 219 ✭✭lisaloo

well all i can say is that if you are a kildare supporter you havn't had much celebrating to do yourself.
of Couse we will live on our victory. thats what victories are all about.

shame for Kildare they have nothing to celebrate and probably wont have for another while after this match Sunday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,005 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

Lisaloo, Kildare have won the All-Ireland, albeit not since 1928, whereas Laois never have. Kildare have 4 All-Irelands, which is 4 more than Laois. They have 13 Leinster titles, compared to Laois with 6. So Kildare have far more to celebrate than Laois have, though I expect it will be Laois that will be celebrating on Sunday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,598 ✭✭✭Yavvy

Im going for kildare by a point in this one ! with a certain manager to be sacked the very next day !!.

Seriously I just get the feeling the Lillys have momentum and confidence something which is a major factor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,005 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

Whoever loses won't be out, so there is unlikely to be any change of management at this point, no matter who loses.

    Laois by a point from...

BARRY BRENNAN in the 72nd minute to sweep Laois into our third final in a row (fourth really if you count last years replay!!!) :D:D:D

I would put my money on kildare cause they look alot hungrier this year, but it will be a close match. :o

As Lisa says we live on victory and thats what we hope to be doing on sunday so **** the begrudgers......

i was not remembering the a diff game laois were the underdogs and we proved them wrong it was electric

    Up laois

True, but in fairness it can't be denied that Laois can gather that momentum when it's most needed...well they used to be able to anyway! They haven't been up to scratch so far this year, but don't write them off yet.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,832 ✭✭✭Waylander

Laois fan I do not think we are begrudgers, more realists. After all what is there to begrudge? Laois are not currently champions of either province or Ireland, and only have one provincial title under their belts in how long? Don't get me wrong, I think they are a pretty decent team but they never ran Dublin off the pitch in that game, they won a hard fought contest by a couple of points, and have pretty much under performed in league and championship since, to my mind at least.

if I were a Kildare man I'd be very worried about Anthony Rainbow at number 3. He's been a great servant over the years.. but I really can't/ don't see him at full back.
On his appearances to date at corner back he looks like he's slowed down a lot and if you give Fitzgerald space he'll score points all day or worse - goals. I can see him skipping past Rainbow in one on ones. Amazing a county with the population of Kildare can't call in a specialist number 3.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 500 ✭✭✭hawker

Was unable to answer posts yesterday so here goes.

As far as I can recall Laois were lucky against Dublin two years ago. Dublin kicked some woeful wides that day and should have beaten Laois by 5/6 pts.

I see where one Laois fan states '**** the begrudgers'. I find that quite ironic coming from certain Laois fans. I was always wishing Laois football would come good someday but after 1998, I'd be happy if they never won another match. However they do play nice football and have some fine footballers which is a rare enough combination in football these days.

Kildare have never had a decent full back since Paddy O'Donoghue. In 1998 Ronan Quinn/John Finn never inspired much confodence in Kildare fans. I think Kildare could be in trouble at full back on Sunday.

For the record. Laois to win by 2 and Dublin to win by 4.

The one thing I find funny is how the Dubs fans get so upset everytime anyone slags the team!

Anyway, I'm going for Kildare to win by a point and then beat Wexford in the Leinster final. Maybe I'll be wrong but sure yas can wait and see!

What are you on about now? Any other supporter backs their team and this is acceptable, but a Dub does it and it is not? It is more then uncalled for anti dublin bias that soem contributers to this forum continuosly display, that the Dublin fans get tetchy about. I have seen you defend the Cavan team often enough, have I not got the same entitlement.

Id like to know who the hell this Lisaloo dude is tbh.
He just called someone a silly cock and is still posting his tripe here.
Your making no friends here Lisaloo and id suggest you express your thoughts in a mature manner, thats ofcourse if you know how.

Hmmm, listened to first half on radio just now and Laois are all over Kildare :(
Cant see us coming back from 11-4 down tbh.
Laois i must admit seem awesome or else Kildare are even worse than i thought.

tut, tut. The thing is, I would hope the Cavan people are only joking but the Dubs actually think they have a chance!

Well played Laois yas feckers, the best team won by a long way.
Now we must go and lick or wounds :)
If Dublin make final i cant see them keeping the Laois forwards quiet.

See you all for the big party tonight!!! Yipeeeeeeeeee! :D:D:D

That was a good result for Laois, but it was against a poor Kildare team that alot of people were over rating before hand. Dubs had a good win against a Wexford side that fought hard too, so I am looking forward to the Leinster final now. I fancy Dublin to shade it, but not by much, and I am most obviously biased!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,005 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

I got the winners of the game right, though I didn't expect it to be by as much. Micko v Dublin will be tough, but the Dubs should shade it alright.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,599 ✭✭✭cashback

A classy performance all round by Laois today against a decent Kildare side imo. Barry Brennan looked very good in particular. The Dublin forwards won't like the tight marking Laois corner backs.
Laois should do it, Dublin looked dodgy at times today.
Vaughan won't be playing next day I assume. He did sweet FA today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 221 ✭✭moongoose

of everything that happened in croke park today i'd be more happy with what the dubs did. yes laois ran up a big score but have they answered any competition? no. dublin went behind against meath and beat them, they went behind against wexford and beat them. it says alot more about a team when they can come back from losing a game than when they win an easy one and if you think a big score is alot to talk about then look back to dubs v longford.
one last thing laois are still going on about their win over the dubs. anyone else remember that laois had to lie down pretending to be injured to disrupt dublins momentum within that game or is that selective memory problem still affecting laois? ps i only answer teams fans who have won the all ireland! even 4 times is better than none.
and above all else who is the only county to lose an all ireland final scoring 0-0 in the game? LAOIS [1889 tipperary 3-6 laois 0-0] so congrats on holding that record

I seem to remember laois coming from behind to beat Offaly not so long ago.
It also says a lot about a team when they can thump a pretty decent team such as Kildare by twelve points.
You say you only answer fans from teams who've won an all-ireland? I take it you won't reply to this then?
And I don't think anyone is too worried by what happened 116 years ago. I'm sure I could go back and find some embarrassing Dublin results but i really couldn't be arsed.

moongoose......what crap!! you are entitled to your opinion but still...what crap!!

have you ever heard of tactics? every team in the county does it as some stage, whether it be laois, cork, DUBLIN, kerry, tyrone etc etc etc

laois were very fortunate to beat offaly, i do not think anyone in laois would deny that. however, offaly (clearly the better team) did not take their chances....how many wides did they kick? 18 or 19? and something like 48 in total in the last 2 matches (laois & louth!?).

as for laois being lucky to beat dublin a few years ago? first of all, dublin kicked their wides in that match, not laois. plus laois in that game forced dublin to take their chances from where they were. laois did not allow dublin to play. all in all, laois deserved it on the day.

both teams totally deserve to make the leinster final, albeit both have had some luck on the way. but so what!? every team needs luck at some stage (look at Liverpool in the CL, nice one by the way, i am also a liverpoolfan).

may the best team win (i am hoping it will be laois, but the best team on the day will deserve it).

well done laois. well done dublin.

    --laoisfan

I agree with Laois fan, both teams are there on merit, and deserve to be there. I disagree with Cashback in that I think Kildare are a poor side. I know they beat Westmeath, but they are poor this season two, in Kildares other two matches they took a bad beating off Laois, and just beat Wicklow by the bare minimum. They have done nothing since Micko left them.

    w00t.

I have no shame in saying I was proved well wrong yesterday. I couldn't foresee Laois getting 21 scores against kildare [or against anyone for that matter] after the Offaly game. [then again, Offaly were show up again by Carlow so maybe I read too much into that game]

Couldn't attend yday even tho I was offered two tickets. Stoopid work today meant I'd never have made it back for the train.

    NOTE::

okey dokey, I'm posting in this thread cos there have been one for two things niggling at me.
Name calling > grow up ffs. Keep it out of the fora or there will be bannings. If you cant articulate your thoughts with a full alphabet of chars, dont type a damn thing. Myself and Al DO NOT want to see it here. Moongoose > one post and I'm already watching you. drag history into another thread and it's banning. That was a trolling post imo and it will not be tolerated.

I know GAA stirs emotion in all of us but if you can't keep it under check to post here, DON'T POST. Plain and simple.

    Laois for Leinster :)

Well done to Laois yesterday, as Micko said, Football was the winner - and how right he was. Laois gave a performance worthy of an All-Ireland. I think that this team has settled now and the rustiness that was evident in the V Offaly game has gone away.

Dublin will not be easy to beat in July, but I'm banking on them kicking themselves out of the final as did Offaly. Dublin still have issues getting scores. The mejia have really glossed them up. I felt that Dublin had peaked against Meath, but they still seem to have more in the tank.

Glad to see Ciaran Whelan red carded yesterday, the way he kicked the Wex player in the stomach was totally disgraceful. If he had a weaker county jersey on him yesterday he would have been straight redded for it. But alas he found his second yellow later on.

    Hard luck to Wexford.
