2am Our time tomorrow night, €16 Setanta PPV.

McBride has gone from 13/2 to 11/2 on Paddy Power. Is this a good bet or has he got no chance?

An Irishman is fighting one of the most famous boxers ever and the thread has a whopping 2 views. :o

I saw the press conference or whatever they call the thing in boxing where the promoters (and boxers) meet to intimidate each other and it was well funny.

McBride's promoter got up and started waffling on and Tyson interupted him to tell him to shut up as he was just going to make it worse for McBride... "you're going to get him killed". Tyson is an animal, pure and simple.

Does Anyone Know If Any Radio Stations That Are Broadcasting The Fight?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,487 ✭✭✭Kevin_rc_ie

yeah boxing just doesn't seem popular on boards.ie.

quarryman i wouldn't take what's done or said in a prefight press conference as an accurate sign of someone's nature.

i've no idea who's going to win this. but if dw can beat mt i'm sure kmb can.

i'd want mt to win if he was fighting anyone else except an irish guy or lewis.

He has no chance , Tyson is well past it but McBride is the true definition of Journeyman any time he has tried to step up to take on an average fighter he has lost , he was TKO'ed by an almost retired Axel Schultz  .

I just think no-body bothers to look in the sports forum thats why boxing threads here don't get much activaty .

    It's possibly on NewsTalk106

www.newstalk106.ie or if you're in Dublin just tune it in on 106 FM.

I couldn't be 100% though, but they always have pretty good boxing coverage.

I don't think McBride has any chance. Apparently one of his 4 defeats was to a guy who had never (or has never since) won another fight. *

I'm sure if he wins tho the Irish media will be all over him like flies round ****, even tho there hasn't exactly been much of an interest from them thus far.

Win or lose heres hoping he lasts longer than that chump Peter McNeeley tho!

    ==

    * = edit. Not exactly true. The guy is Michael Murray and it was his only win in his last 18 bouts.

    Pretty pathetic loss tho.

    Holy ****..
    Wish I could see this.
As said, Tyson is an animal. According to other boxers who have fought him, he grunts in the ring like an animal too.
Scary guy, wouldnt like to be up against him. But has lost flair since old days.

    Be good though.

I'm almost tempted to get this fight on PPV but I have a feeling it might not last very long. I am very surprised that McBride hasn't gotten more attention over here in the national media. Usually Irish people will support anyone with even a hint of green in their eyes. :p .

Tyson for me though - IMO, the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 368 ✭✭Geiger

To be honest McBride doesn't have much going for him. It's not about what he's going to bring tonight, it's all about Tyson. The PPV in general isn't great. I'm not a fan of Miss Ali jr and Mitchell's opponent has yet to be announced. They should have shown this fight for free and maybe the next one, then people would have confidence in buying a Tyson PPV again. Suppose there's still plenty of people willing to believe this is the Tyson of old...

    Tyson KO1

Can't see McBride winning this one. His hand speed is ridiculously slow. He'll have to start punching now if he wants to land any by the time the fight starts.

    Too true :D

    From fightnews.com:

"I feel good. I’ll squash Kevin McBride. My whole intention is to squash him. You know he talks nasty stuff. Sometimes disrespectful, I just want to go in there and get him real good. I don’t know what he brings, but he is going to find out what I bring."

I look at that pic, and even though McBride is huge, you just know Tyson is thinking "More of him to hurt"

Heard the fight on a yahoo chatroom. Simply unbelievable. It's good to hear Tyson finally admit it's over. You'd think he could easily get a job working as a commentator etc for Showtime. He just doesn't need to be in the ring anymore.

Well done to Kevin McBride. Proved me and a few million other people wrong. Now I'm *really* glad I didn't get the PPV...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,179 ✭✭✭snow scorpion

I watching Tyson being interviewed on Sportschannel.

"I can't compete no more in this sport. If I can't beat Kevin McBride, I can't beat anybody." - Tyson after the fight

Amazing result, congratulations Kevin McBride! Does anyone know a pub that is showing it tomorrow, could'nt get it on NTL or the web, glad I put that 50 euro on McBride at 6/1!

I new Tyson was gone , I had no idea he was that gone .
As for the person who said he was the greatest ever , he lost to Buster Douglas  , Holyfield twice , Lennox Lewis(I wouldn't discredit him for this fight Lewis is a true contender for the greatest ever) , Danny Williams (yes his knee was ****ed) , and Kevin McBride .

At least Tyson made $8 million from the fight , he's still bankrupt though :( .

McBride will now probably fight one of the 'Champions' and lose , I hope he earns a nice sum out of it .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,794 ✭✭✭chillywilly

this is madness on mcbrides part but i suppose thats the way it is:

"He(tyson) will pick up $5 million for the fight while McBride's purse will be just $150,000."

I thought the sum was £250,000 for McBride .

I'm sure McBride would have done it for €5, his name is out there now, that's the best publiciity he could've asked for, sure they'll be like,Mike Tyson lost but they'll always remember McBride so he's got his ticket to the big fights now.

Dub13 you claim to be serious about setting up a dedicated boxing forum yet this is your first post on this thread.

You made no effort to engage in discussion on the fight except on a totally inappropriate thread/forum. In fact it appears to me that you didn't know about this thread until I pointed it out to you.

Other boxing fans were able to post about boxing here and start discussion/engage in discussion, yet you seem to be championing a cause that you really have little interest in.

If a boxing forum is created I won't be supporting you for moderator as that also appears to be your aim.

    Amz,
I dont know what your problem with me is but I will rebut your points

1)Did it ever occur to you that I did not see this thread...

    2) "You made no effort to engage in discussion on the fight" could this have anything to do with the fact that I have not seen the fight yet...And no I did not know about this thread until you pointed it out, thanks for that...but no need to be smart about it.

3)Can you tell me how you know I have little interest in boxing...?this fascinates me.Dont tell me that your whole argument rest on me not seen a thread and not talking about a fight I did not see.

4)All I want is to try and get a forum on boards were we can chat about boxing,if we have a forum people will not miss a thread.

AMZ give they guy a break. If we had a boxing forum we wouldnt be missing stuff like this.

Regards the fight well tyson was washed up after he got the face pucked off him against lewis 3 years ago. He is only a name now.
McBride is **** too, just a big guy thats all. Expect him to lose badly to a real heavy weight like kiltscho (sp?)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,004 ✭✭✭Big Ears

Tyson was never the same man after he lost to Buster Douglas (a 42-1 outsider the longest odds in history for a heavyweight title fight) .

Ever since he's continued knocking out the **** but losing to the top opponents , now he can't even knock out the **** .

TBH the heavyweight division is the poorest its been in a long time , the real division at the moment is light-welterweight , with Ricky Hatton , Floyd Mayweather Jnr , Arturo Gatti , Miguel Cotto , Vivian Harris , Kostya Tszyu(if he continues to fight) , Junior Witter , Sharmba Mitchell(possibly washed up) and Diego Corrales if he moves up all in the hunt for belts .The division is also boosted by good fighters such as Kelson Pinto , Lovemore N'dou and Mohammed Abudullaev . Who knows Castillo might move up aswell .

The division is mouth watering and WBC champion Arturo Gatti fights Floyd Mayweather Jnr later this month , Harris also defends his WBA title at the same date(26th I think) Miguel Cotto defended his WBO title recently against Abudullaev .

McBride has called out the current champs. Somehow I don't think they're gonna be losing any sleep. It's not like when Williams beat Tyson, back then there were a few shreds of hope that Tyson could make some noise (well at least in the first few rounds of their fight). At best I think McBride will get a fight against a top 20-30 ranked opponent and lose. Good luck to the guy though, he's Irish :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,457 ✭✭✭Cactus Col

yeah, pity he didn't get to fight Tyson before Williams as was originally planned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,377 ✭✭✭Benedict XVI

McBride's next possible fight will be against Johnny Ruiz a Boston native who won a heavyweight title in 2001 (don't know where he has been since)
It will probably be held in Boston and Ruiz will probably have MBride on the canvas in no time.
