Is there any way of doing this in a script?

I can do it in the system settings in ubuntu but I'd like to have a script that does this:

    switch caps to ctrl
    launch app
    switch back on close

    Anyone?

Ok, after a fair bit of googling, I've found the solution. It may be of help to someone else in the future.......

First, I need to set up my own special keyboard mapping using xkb (linkage), then

    setxkbmap <my_kb_map>
    load_my_prog
    setxkbmap ie

Mods, feel free to close this thread.
