Personal trainers

Im going through an unfit stage at the moment, I havent been to the gym in about three weeks. Still run a bit but not training as I havent joined a gym since my mebership of UCD ran out and I was warned to stay away from Crunch Dun Laoghaire.

Anyway I figure if Im going to do it this time Im going to do it right, I dont have the time to go all the way to Loughlinstown or UCD after work and I will loose the motivation to go if I have to travel there so Im just going to join Dun Laoghaire.

My question is - is it difficult to hire an outside personal trainer for an hour once a fortnight to go through things?
How much would I expect to pay?
And where would I find one?
Is it accepted to screen your trainer (qualifications/personality)?
(as in I dont want a Hitler or a camp Jim that will put me off excersize, I need someone down to earth that will motivate me in a good way)
Will personal trainers have basic dietry knowlege?

    Not difficult at all.

Varies wildly. Minimum is probably €25-€30 an hour. Expect to pay more.

Most gyms offer the service. There are others that operate by word of mouth. Try local papers, or the notice board in your local gym.

Absolutely. Go to a session. If you don't like the guy, or the gym, then don't go again!

Most will, yep. Qualified personal trainers have to pass a course (not sure of the name of it) and get a cert to prove they passed it. Part of the course is a diet module.

    Hope this helps....

A GOOD trainer will charge at least €55 per hour!!!

Those figures are complete guess work and you would get a 20year old trainer 4 months out of a 6month course for €30 per hour

    Maybe in Dublin, Transform.
I'm going to an excellent qualified PT (with his own gym) in Limerick for €30 an hour.

Sorry, Limerick is a whole different ball game.

I do not want to discuss prices as i do not want to be seen as fishing for business.
We charge more and some of the guys on the board know me and my business and have the results with clients to show its worth it.

Who ever you choose ask them for a list of at least FIVE clients of theirs who have been transformed by their training. That is the true test of a trainer - qualifications only count for so much. I come from a Sports Science degree and it is not worth the paper its on compared to good communication skills, experience and passion about your work.

huge point! you get so many trainers who just dont give a s**t about you except for their pay, so you will not work your best for them! you ned someone who will push you who you ill work for! someone you get on with is always good...and they are very dear!
