Metrosexuals

Metrosexuals are heterosexual guys who "exaggeratedly" take care of their appearance and are not ashamed to present their strong feminine side.
Metrosexuals use to shave legs, perfectly treat their eyebrows, use creams and body lotions for a baby- soft skin and polish their nails.
    Typical metrosexuals:
David Beckham, Justin Timberlake, Brad Pitt, etc.

Personally, I don't like the ides of men shaving legs, but I'm in favor of men who care for their appearance, i.e. wear nice clothes, use nice fragrances and the like.
How do other girls feel about metrosexuals?
Boys, are you metrosexual? If not, how do you, as a man, feel about them?
I'm curious to read others' opinions.

lol metrosexuals, sorry that word just brings back memories of a south park where they all turned metrosexual.

you wouldn't catch me shaving my legs or wearing a pink shirt or with a spikey mullet no way.

It's a media creation more than anything else so I have no opinion.

Unfortunately Dublin is becoming the home of these new "men".

Lads do yourself and everyone else a favour. Take off the pink t-shirts, diamond ear rings and cut the highlights out.

what an apt username for this topic! :D

it's unfair to class men that keep clean as Metrosexuals. i look after myself, but would never consider myself a metrosexual. There's a wide band of man, from the butch/slobs to the prissy/OCD cleaners

I'm queer, but I'm a scruffy bastard. Is there a label for that yet?

Keeping clean is one thing but wearing pink/bright yellow t-shirts and all of the rest is just metro.

    Whats the issue?

If some guy has great attention to detail when it comes to himself and his appearance who are you to judge?

It's like fat people calling healthy ones "body obsessed freaks". It is just your insecurity speaking. Get over it.

Oh and seconded on the whole media created label argument. Although tbh what isn't these days?

No that's not it at all. Great attention to detail doesn't describe a metrosexual's dress sense AT ALL. I am certainly not an insecure person so I've nothing to get over regarding that.
It's nothing like fat people calling healthy/thin people "body obsessed freaks.

I prefer spending it on hookers and coke personally.

    I;

    i)Use a facewash
    ii)Use a moisturiser
iii)*OCCASIONALLY* pluck a few stray eyebrow hairs
    iv)Colour co-ordinate

    How bad am I :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 611 ✭✭✭Alana

Not bad at all, v good in fact. You care but not too much...if that makes sense.

I don't really care, once he ain't stealing my eye-liner and gets his own, that's fine...kinda draw the line at him shaving his legs though...but then again..mhe, whatever, ppl come in differnt shapes and sizes and are attracted to different media hype.

What I want to know, is wtf is with guys wearing pink t-shirts and shirts lately???????!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm all for ppl wearing whatever they want, but that was my guide for "hey he's gay" (note this is in jest)..but it's really weird, pink is a girly colour-well aware I'm being sexist, but it's just weird.

If I had said to one of my mates 2 years ago that he'd buy a pink t-shirt he would of told me to fu(k off...and then the other day he was in one...strange phenomenon methinks

My manager was wearing one the other and i was so confused....is he gay or not gay...argh! Then I remembered he was married, and then a whole heap of confusion ensued in my head-is he in the closet...stupid pink shirts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,566 ✭✭✭Gillo

I take grooming very seriously, prob too serious, but hey I enjoy it and like to look my best. My mates have described me as been metro, and to be honest I'd agree with them.

But I don't wear those pink tops, diamond earrings or have the same haircut as everyone else. I dress well and generally keep up with the fashion but I wear my own style and what I want to wear.

I wouldn't describe the pink t-shirt diamond ear-ring, splike hair brigade as metro at all, they're more like sheep they wear the exact same as everyone else. It's funny to watch them, a group of lad's all dressed the exact same, sporting the same hairstyle, it remind me of a school day out where all teh kids are in uniform!!

So basically, I wouldn't of said that metro was about fashion, it more personnal grooming (and a lot of it), most people who are metro will also be very fashionable but not to the point of wearign the exact same as everyone else.

Well I think it's good that guys take care of their appearance. Guys who take care of their skin are sexy to touch. Smooth skin to glide your hands over is always a plus.

But shaved legs...no thanks! I hate hairless guys. It looks stupid. A bit of hair is sexy ;)

Men should be smelly as God intended......................................................

Seriously though, it's just not manly men who groom themselves too much :p individuality is the name of the game

A man actually caring about how he looks without being metrosexual? Unheard of!

Christ, I've never heard a more ridiculous term before in my life. I'd like to stab whoever unleashed the word metrosexual on the world.

I woul have thought him fcking other men would be a clue about his sexuality more than the colour of his t-shirt.

Pink looks good with black, it doesn't suit all guys though. It was better when less people wore the colour but now as someone said it's just like a bloody uniform.

I moisturise, I exfoliate, I use soap that costs €20 a bar and I wouldn't be caught dead in a tracksuit. If anyone called me metrosexual I'd be annoyed.

    Metrosexual is no insult.
And i find nothing wrong about this identification. Many boys I know are confessed metrosexuals and they are excellent looking guys and really have a fantastic taste.
However, I like what Helzeena said and I totally agree with this statement:
But shaved legs...no thanks! I hate hairless guys. It looks stupid. A bit of hair is sexy
    ;)

I personally would be hugely turned off by a man that spends longer in the bathroom than I do. I like my men to be manly. I'd rather a scruffy guy than a metrosexual, though obviously not too scruffy.

    despise the term metrosexuals.

reminds me of a song in friends " and then there are bi(metro:p)sexuals but some just say they're kidding themselves"

in short, metrosexual = gay but afraid to admit it??

Going by the definition that metrosexuals "Take care of themselves" do you honestly believe that no man has ever taken care or themselves, or been concerned about their appearance before the dawn of Metrosexuality?

See what I'm getting at here?
Metrosexual is the most ridiculous, overused, unnessicary word that got spewed by whatever marketing firm under control of Satan's colon yet! It IS an insult!

You've got to be kidding. Metrosexuals shave their legs?! Chests maybe; legs, I hope not.

Anyone who thinks men haven't groomed themselves, dressed well, and had enough class and social skills to make women go all dreamy-eyed for centuries is kidding themselves. A man like this was called a 'gentleman'. Imagine that. Though 'metrosexual' has little to do with manners as far as I can determine.

Take the test. You know you want to... Are you a metrosexual?

And Karl, sharpen your blade for Mark Simpson, the British writer who coined the term in 1994. He wrote an article for Salon.com about it in 2002. Interesting read, and it's still available.
