Thats nothing. One of these flew into our kitchen last week. You would not believe the noise it made as it flew nor the size of the thing.

Never saw anything like it before and assumed it was one of these foreign insects that came in fruit imports or something. Turns out its a native species!

****, man, I hate spiders, and you say that was in your house? I thought I saw one of the biggest Ireland has to offer in my room last summer, I couldn't work up the stones to throw it out so I jumped into bed, covered my head, and couldn't find it in the morning
but that was just a particularly big garden spider, no hair, hyst a big ass and long legs, that blighter looks like a Black Widow

@ OP: When I was a kid we called them 'leaf beetles'. Fairly harmless, since I've seen many and am unscathed.

One of these guys landed on my lap when I was in a beer garden in the states a few years back: http://www.desertusa.com/mag00/dec/papr/mantis.html
it was one BIG bug, I think it frightened more of the boys than it did the girls though!!

    This post has been deleted.

It's not quite as big as it looks in the photo, but it was still pretty big. It might have come in through the back door, it was in the utility room.
I had my camera in my hand when I saw it and I thought I might as well see if anyone knew what it was :)
Anyway, I haven't seen it since but I keep wondering if it's still around, in the cornflakes or something...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,702 ✭✭✭bounty_hunter

Thanks, you've just ruined cornflakes forever.
